Infiltrating the enemy's ranks was not a matter of urgency, as the Ironclad Troops needed time to earn trust and gather intelligence. After discussing everything with Gong Changsheng, Jufeng decided to rest and conserve his energy in preparation for their mission.
As night fell, the planet was enveloped in darkness without a moon, deepening the shadows around. After dinner, Jufeng found himself with nothing to do and lay down on a patch of grass beside his quarters, resting his head on his hands and crossing his legs while basking in the starlight.
Footsteps gradually approached, and after spending several days together, Jufeng easily recognized Vera's presence. Like a Blue Cat, her footsteps were incredibly subtle; if it weren't for Jufeng's heightened senses, he might not have noticed her until she was nearly upon him.
He extended his right hand and patted a soft spot beside him, inviting Vera to sit down—or perhaps lie down. Vera paused for a moment before walking over and gently sitting down.
The base was located in a desolate area with no signs of life for miles, and even wild animals were rare. Thus, the nights could be slightly chilly, especially when a cool breeze swept through, stirring emotions within.
As her hair and clothing were lightly lifted by the wind, Vera tightened her clothes, curled her legs up, and wrapped her arms around them, resting her chin on her knees.
“How far along are you?” Vera asked softly.
Jufeng gazed at the starry sky and replied casually, “One-third.”
“Only one-third?” Vera exclaimed in surprise.
“There’s still one-third left,” Jufeng chuckled.
During the concert battle that day, both Jufeng and Wu had sustained serious injuries. Given that Romain was already injured prior to that event, his recovery would be slow and difficult.
Vera fell silent for a moment, concern etched on her face. “You shouldn’t take risks without certainty.”
Hearing this, Jufeng's smile widened. “Are you worried about me?”
Vera replied nonchalantly, “I just don’t want my partner to be an idiot.”
In a place where beasts seldom tread, there was an Insect making its home. Not far behind the lawn lay a sea of wildflowers, teeming with many natives.
“Chirp chirp~~” the Insect suddenly called out, as if praising Vera's insight.
Jufeng sighed in resignation, “Am I really that foolish? If I had my former strength, would that mean I’m not foolish?”
Vera carefully weighed the implications and replied reluctantly, “At least it resembles the behavior of an adult.”
Upon hearing this, Jufeng exhaled deeply, a playful smile returning to his face. “Then you should retract your previous statement because I am just as I was before.”
Vera lifted her head and turned to look at Jufeng. The two statements seemed contradictory; hadn’t he only recovered two-thirds? How could he be the same as before?
Taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Vera realized that Jufeng meant that even if his current physical condition was only two-thirds of what it used to be, he could still possess the strength he had before his injury. In other words, after the harrowing night of the concert, Jufeng had made significant progress.
Understanding all this, Vera shook her head in self-mockery and bent down once more.
“Are you impressed by me?” Jufeng teased playfully.
After a while, Vera slowly responded.
“I was just thinking, maybe you really aren’t human!”
This should have been a compliment, but coming from Vera’s lips, it sounded more like an insult.
Jufeng chuckled foolishly, taking it as a supreme compliment.
The insects chirped incessantly behind them, and the night had deepened; it was time for people to sleep.
As they approached the house, Vera said, "I will go with you."
...
The next day, Jufeng continued his usual sparring exchanges with Hua Cheng and the other Brothers, though today’s group felt different, their eyes filled with eagerness.
"Brother Jufeng, Brother Hua, you've been promoted to leaders of the Terrorist incident. How does it feel? Quite impressive, isn't it?"
Ning Pangzi was not just a chubby guy; he was also loud. When he spoke, few dared to stay within five meters of him for fear of damaging their eardrums.
Jufeng had always been open with those he liked. He smiled and replied, "It is impressive, but I’m afraid I might have to leave the Brothers."
Upon hearing this, Ning Pangzi's mood immediately darkened, resembling a defeated rooster.
After spending time together, Jufeng had become both a mentor and a friend to them. Ning Pangzi had never been as close to anyone as he was with Jufeng; there was a sense of reliance mixed with familiarity.
Parting in life always brought pain.
Mentioning such sorrowful matters left everyone silent. Even the usually talkative Du Peiwei didn’t know what to say.
After a while, it was Showy who suddenly spoke up.
"Brother Jufeng, Brother Hua, since you’re in charge of this operation's personnel adjustments, if you’re not worried about us holding you back, why not include us in the plan?"
"Showy," a single word jolted the dreamer awake, as if a ray of dawn had suddenly appeared in the darkness. Ning Pangzi quickly said, "Yes, yes! Brother Jufeng, take us with you. All our friends from the squad have died on the plains, and we have nothing left to hold us back in the Military. From now on, we’ll stick with you, Brother Jufeng."
Seeing Ning Pangzi suddenly become excited, Jufeng felt a mix of appreciation and emotion. However, this mission was unlike any other; he couldn't drag these brothers into danger.
"I understand your intentions, but this operation is fraught with unknown dangers. One misstep could mean we might not return. I went through so much to save you; how could I send you into the jaws of the tiger again?"
Hua Cheng, the core of the team, stepped forward at that moment and said firmly, "Brother Jufeng, when we chose to enlist, we truly considered the issue of life and death. But all of us Brothers came to this decision after careful thought. After so many years in service, we've witnessed our fair share of partings and deaths; we're not afraid anymore. Brother Jufeng, please take us with you."
"Yes, Brother Jufeng, I still want to continue learning martial arts from you."
"Yes, Brother Jufeng, count me in too."
"I agree as well."
Chen Long, Du Peiwei, and Showy chimed in one after another.
Jufeng was indeed moved. Although these individuals were not extraordinary talents, they had been honed into excellent soldiers over the years in the military. Especially considering their understanding of his temperament, he genuinely wanted to bring them into his own team.
"But..." Jufeng hesitated.
"Brother Jufeng, if you refuse again, it would mean you truly look down on your brothers."
With that said, Jufeng found it hard to decline any further. It was difficult to turn away from such heartfelt sentiments; he decided to accept them.
"Since you all intend to join me on this adventure, then let's focus on healing your injuries properly for now."
Ning Pangzi raised his arm and struck his chest vigorously, boasting, "Brother Jufeng, don’t worry. We’re all set. I could take down a tiger with one punch right now."
The crowd chuckled at Ning Pangzi's bravado, creating a moment of harmony.
That evening, Jufeng mentioned this to Gong Changsheng, who immediately agreed without hesitation. He promised that Jufeng's team would be organized independently from the Ironclad Troops but would enjoy the same benefits.
Three days later, after nearly two weeks of delays, the headquarters finally sent word that everything was ready and Jufeng could set out.
Before leaving, Jufeng asked Gong Changsheng to send a message to Zongheng Express Company, naturally to inform them of his whereabouts. Otherwise, losing track of Jufeng would surely cause chaos.
That same night, Jufeng and Vera led the Hua Cheng Team aboard a transport ship, departing the planet to carry out their mission.
This squad had a resounding name: Hurricane Squad.
