In the distance, a light blue planet appeared in view. Jufeng lowered his head to look at the information he held about this planet, lost in thought for a long while.
There was no specific name for it, so following the order of human discovery, this planet was simply named D156.
It was a micro Administrative Star with a population of ten million, well-equipped with facilities, and its residents lived comfortably. However, the frequent appearances of Terrorists nearby disrupted this harmony, leaving the citizens anxious and fearful.
According to reports from the Galactic Ironclad Corps, the Terrorists were secretly mining a vein on this planet. Unlike before, they were not rampaging through the planet with great fanfare and then seizing it with overwhelming military force.
Jufeng tucked away the information and suddenly transformed a ball of flame in his hand. Moments later, the paper disintegrated into nothingness, leaving no ashes behind.
He said leisurely, "It seems the Terrorists are indeed stretched thin; otherwise, we wouldn't have such an opportunity to infiltrate."
Vera agreed with Jufeng's assessment but kept her gaze fixed on his hand. The mastery of Yingguo Illusion had reached such a level that it seemed his earlier claims of having only two-thirds of his full strength were indeed not exaggerated.
Thinking of this eased Vera's worries somewhat.
The transport ship landed at D156's only interstellar transfer station. With dozens of spacecraft coming and going, it did not raise any suspicions among the people. Like ordinary citizens, Jufeng and his group of seven exited the transfer station one after another. After wandering around a few places, they checked into an inconspicuous hotel.
In the dead of night, Jufeng and Vera quietly leaped out of the window at the back of the hotel, landing softly in the alley behind it. Then, using the cover of darkness, they vanished from the area.
D156 was quite similar to Earth, differing only by a few models; at night, the moon still hung in the sky.
After running for a while, Jufeng and Vera entered a bar called Alluring Night. They took their seats unobtrusively and casually ordered two cups of sake. They quietly savored their drinks while Romain occasionally teased Vera, jokingly asking, "Have you been to places like this before?" He raised his cup and took several sips without noticeably reducing its contents.
Vera drank some as well and replied calmly, "Of course I have. My past days were much like yours."
What she meant by "much like" was likely about wandering and struggling through life, where one's safety and fate rested solely in their own hands. Jufeng thought about it carefully; if someone grew up in luxury as a noble child, even if they could master Lingyu of the Bell, they shouldn't be so down-to-earth.
The two were chatting casually when a young man approached, holding a glass of wine and exuding an air of gentlemanly charm. He did not take a seat but addressed Vera politely, "Excuse me, may I sit here?"
To Vera's right was Jufeng, and the left side was naturally vacant. She nodded slightly without further comment, prompting the young man to take a seat.
"You both seem to be newcomers here," the young man said with a polite smile, casually inquiring.
Vera completely ignored his presence, so Jufeng had to respond. He chuckled softly, appearing somewhat shy as he replied, "To be honest, brother, it's tough to get by in this border area these days. Terrorists are causing chaos everywhere, leaving everyone on edge. We had no choice but to come here, hoping to find some work to make a living."
"Oh?" The young man seemed intrigued. "In that case, I might have a job for you. Are you interested?"
"Let's hear it."
"The restaurant is in need of a chef."
"But I only know how to fry vegetables."
The young man let out a long sigh and smiled. "Fried vegetables are perfect; they provide a good balance of meat and vegetables and are nutritious. It seems we have a connection, so why don't we step aside for a moment to talk?"
With that, the young man stood up first and walked toward the bar exit. Jufeng and Vera exchanged glances before following in his footsteps.
Outside the bar, they entered an alley and turned again, leading them to a secluded spot within the lane. The young man took out a key and unlocked the door of an old house, allowing Jufeng and Vera to enter.
"Soldier of the Universal Landing Force Intelligence Unit, Yang Fang, at your service, Captain," he said as he saluted.
Seeing the young man salute, Jufeng quickly returned the gesture and warmly replied, "No need for formalities with me; just call me Brother Jufeng."
Yang Fang seemed surprised that the envoy sent from above would be so friendly. Nevertheless, he did not dare to act too casually; his gentlemanly demeanor vanished instantly as he adopted the solemnity and rigidity of a soldier.
Jufeng nodded to himself, realizing that the Cosmic Police were indeed full of hidden talents. With time pressing and tasks at hand, he and Yang Fang quickly finalized their plans for the meeting.
The information provided by Gong Changsheng ended at the Night Temptation Bar; from there, it would be entirely up to Yang Fang and Jufeng's group to handle the rest.
Every detail was double-checked to ensure nothing went wrong. After all, being in a den of wolves meant that one slip could lead to dire consequences.
About an hour later, Yang Fang and Jufeng had everything sorted out. The plan was for Jufeng's group to pose as applicants for the Terrorist Mining operation, with Yang Fang overseeing the matter, allowing them to navigate through it more easily. Next, they would wait until they gained enough trust before the Cosmic Police took further action to help Jufeng infiltrate the Terrorist organization completely.
As they were about to leave, Yang Fang glanced at Vera, pondering for a moment before voicing his concerns.
"Captain, the Terrorists are ruthless and lack compassion. A beautiful woman like you could be in grave danger there; it might attract unwanted attention. I hope you will be cautious."
Jufeng paused at his words, quickly understanding Yang Fang's concern. The saying "beauty brings disaster" had stood the test of time; he feared that the Terrorists might take an interest in Vera and threaten her life.
However, this had already crossed Jufeng's mind. He smiled and reassured him, "Don't worry. When I appear before them, I'll be disguised as an Ugly Woman; they won't be interested in me. Besides, having a woman around will make it easier to gain the Terrorists' trust."
Yang Fang was taken aback; how could someone as stunning as Vera be turned into an Ugly Woman? Yet seeing Jufeng so confident, he chose not to press further and bid him farewell.
Jufeng and Vera quietly returned to their hotel without raising any suspicions. The next day, as everyone checked out and headed to the designated location at the agreed time, they entered the recruitment line in batches.
The Terrorist Mining operation required a large number of recruits, so they were constantly hiring. By the time Jufeng arrived in the morning, there was already a considerable line. Logically, since they needed manpower, more would be better; however, the Terrorists were cautious about attracting military attention and thus implemented strict selection processes.
Fortunately, Jufeng's group had their identities rearranged. From now on, Jufeng would go by Ju Feng, while Vera would be called Lary.
Ning Pangzi had been watching Vera since she stepped out of her room that morning. His plump head couldn't comprehend how overnight she transformed from a flawless beauty with snow-white skin into someone with dark skin and numerous large freckles—an Ugly Woman.
Seeing Ning Pangzi's bewildered expression amused Jufeng; he was curious too and quietly asked him about it.
"Are you sure this method has no side effects? What if I can't change back? Wouldn't that make me a sinner?"
Vera said lightly, "Whether or not I can change back is my own business. What does it have to do with you? Just focus on your own investigation."
Since getting to know Vera better, Jufeng increasingly realized that this Sister Ni had a charm that was quite captivating; the more unassuming she appeared, the more endearing she became.
He chuckled and said, "Don't worry, if you can't get married in the future, I can discuss it with Jia'er and perhaps take you as a concubine."
Vera raised an eyebrow, about to retort, when she heard the recruitment office call out Jufeng's name.
"Next, Ju Feng."
