The night breeze was filled with the fragrance of Paulownia blossoms, and as Fuyou ascended, the view from the rooftop became distant and almost untraceable.
Yet Jufeng still caught a whiff of the floral scent, brought by the young man before him, who had come from beneath the tree. Why would he want to go upstairs?
Chen Tan Hua observed Jufeng's sudden tension and smiled slightly, casually saying, "I've been looking for you for quite some time tonight."
Jufeng did not yet sense any hostility; however, he couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. Still, his expression relaxed considerably. Since he had been discovered, if there were intentions to harm him, it would happen sooner or later. He might as well engage in conversation.
This person was indeed impressive!
Jufeng eased his tense body and put a smile back on his face, standing with his hands clasped behind him. He replied, "What do you want with me? Could it be that Brother Flowering Talent has a fondness for dragon boys?"
Chen Tan Hua paused slightly, and the smile on his face froze for a moment. After a while, he suddenly burst into laughter and said with a grin, "I don't even know your real name; let's just call you Ju Feng for now. Ju Feng, it's rare to see your ability to switch emotions so quickly and still have the mood to tease me. Aren't you afraid that you might not be able to leave this area later?"
Jufeng remained calm and indifferent to Chen Tan Hua's threat, replying lightly with an air of nonchalance.
"If I want to leave, I doubt you all could stop me."
The two young men who loved to laugh stood together, creating quite a humorous scene. Even though their conversation revolved around life and death, it felt lighthearted coming from their mouths.
Chen Tan Hua shrugged off Jufeng's confidence or arrogance without concern. "Whether you can escape is not what I'm worried about; I'm just curious if your companions are as skilled as you are—especially... your Beloved Wife."
Jufeng's gaze sharpened suddenly, bursting forth with a strong aura of menace. He was unafraid of threats against himself, but threats against friends and family stirred Jufeng's fighting instincts.
The night breeze grew colder at this height, especially between the two young men. The atmosphere on the rooftop turned unusually eerie, tinged with an unsettling chill.
After a moment, Jufeng's expression softened again, and a smile returned to his lips. To an unfamiliar observer, he might seem like an unpredictable character.
Jufeng did not respond to Chen Tan Hua's threat but instead asked what seemed like a rather foolish question.
"Is it Yang Chou who sent you?"
Chen Tan Hua paused for a moment, then replied slowly, "What else could it be? Am I here just to enjoy the scenery with you?"
Jufeng revealed a strange smile. "Well, that's not necessarily true. At least, Yang Chou wouldn't have you chatting with me for this long. So, what brings you to me? Perhaps we could become friends."
The two "perhaps" were guesses, tests, and confirmations.
Chen Tan Hua finally reined in his cynical demeanor. Although he still appeared to be smiling, his mind was now much more serious.
Despite his high assessment of Jufeng's abilities, he hadn't expected such a solid and calm mindset, which continued to surprise him.
However, upon reflection, the unexpected was also within reason; otherwise, what meaning would this encounter hold?
"I must admit, you do possess some impressive skills that have caught my attention. Initially, I came here with only a faint hope. If you hadn't met my expectations, I would have had no hesitation in sending you straight to Yang Chou. Fortunately for you, your performance—oh no, rather your companions' performance—has earned you a chance."
Chen Tan Hua became serious, his defiance even more pronounced than Jufeng's. With great skill comes great boldness; thus, his tone inevitably became more audacious. Jufeng chuckled inwardly and said, "Then let's get to the point."
"No." Chen Tan Hua moved a few steps toward the edge of the rooftop, gazing down at the dazzling lights below. He continued, "As for now, we might not have enough time. Look at that vehicle; it's heading towards your home. If you can't make it back before it arrives, I fear we won't have any further discussions."
Following Chen Tan Hua's gaze, Jufeng indeed spotted a large military truck filled with fully armed soldiers speeding away.
Seeing this, Jufeng was startled; it seemed Yang Chou wasn't giving him any breathing room. Just as the soldiers monitoring him had been withdrawn, another method was immediately employed to investigate him—his suspicion was palpable.
Standing up, Jufeng left behind a parting remark before suddenly vanishing from the rooftop and blending into the night breeze.
"I hope we can cooperate pleasantly!"
As he raced along, the Paulownia trees and shadows of flowers danced past him. Jufeng finally made it home just before the military vehicle arrived.
With a jolt, Romain leaped from the balcony back into the living room, the noise startling Vera, who had not yet fallen asleep.
Vera sat up, noticing the anxious look on Romain's face. Without a word, she hurried to move the bedding from the living room back to the bedroom, sensing that something had changed.
Without any unnecessary conversation, Vera began to loosen her clothing. The loose-fitting home attire allowed her to move quickly.
"Yang Chou's people have come; this time it might be very dangerous."
Vera's beautiful face tightened at his words. "Hua Cheng and the others?"
"Don't worry," Romain quickly finished tidying up all the details, then swiftly removed his clothes. He pulled Vera into bed with him.
"I trust them."
Just as he finished speaking, there was a loud bang as Romain's door burst open. The couple under the covers were jolted awake by the noise. They turned on the light to see what was happening, only to be met with a terrifying sight.
Dozens of cold, menacing gun barrels were aimed at them. Poor Jufeng felt the warmth of his beloved for the first time at such close range, but it was fleeting.
In the cold, dark room, Romain slowly regained consciousness, struggling to open his weary eyes. What came into view was a dimly lit setting.
Romain paused for two seconds, then looked around at his body. He was bound to a chair, his body battered and bruised. He could no longer remember how many times he had woken up after losing consciousness and wondered how many more times he would have to endure this fate.
A heavily armed terrorist entered Jufeng's room and, without a word, used an electric shock to render both individuals unconscious. When Jufeng first regained consciousness, he found himself in this cold chamber. Without any explanation, the two terrorists took turns torturing him, relentlessly tormenting him.
Now, those two terrorists had vanished without a trace. Jufeng felt the pain coursing through his limbs and looked down at his tattered clothing soaked in blood, beads of sweat clinging to his bangs—an eerily calm sight.
Before long, footsteps echoed from outside. It sounded like five people. Moments later, five figures indeed appeared before Jufeng, three of whom he recognized.
Yang Chou was at the front, followed by Chen Tan Hua and Yang Fang, with the two terrorists who had tortured Jufeng trailing behind them.
As soon as Yang Fang entered the room and saw Jufeng's pitiful state, she was horrified and nearly rushed forward but was timely stopped by Chen Tan Hua.
One of the last two stepped forward, moved a chair, and gestured for Yang Chou to sit down. After Yang the Boss took his seat, his first words were shocking enough to make Jufeng's heart tremble.
"Should I call you Ju Feng or Cosmic Police?"
