The essence of Jungle Warfare has been debated for centuries, with many differing opinions. However, one point is universally agreed upon by seasoned soldiers and commanders: Jungle Warfare requires stealth and surprise, and the prerequisite for this is absolute silence. Once a loud sound pierces the tranquil jungle, it is akin to jumping in front of the enemy and challenging them to attack.
Logically, the soldiers under Yang Chou should never make such a rookie mistake. Yet, the sharp and piercing sound still lingered in their ears, and the astonished expressions on their opponents' faces mirrored their own, proving that this was no mere hallucination but a very real occurrence.
Yang Fang was still in a state of confusion, about to ask Jufeng what was happening when he suddenly noticed Jufeng's expression shift to one of realization. He quickly interjected.
“It’s Gunfire!”
Yang Fang paused at this revelation, momentarily unable to recall what Gunfire referred to. After racking his brain for a moment, he suddenly remembered.
Gunfire was a type of bullet derived from Mech Equipment. Within Mech Equipment, there existed a warning Shell that emitted a short and piercing shriek through the rapid airwaves generated by its explosion across different metals. Gunfire was a smaller version of the Shell; while its sound was less jarring, it had greater duration.
As Yang Fang recalled this uncommon bullet, he suddenly realized the gravity of the situation. Seeing Jufeng's serious expression confirmed that things were indeed taking a turn for the worse.
Jufeng pulled Yang Fang down into the Shrubbery and began issuing orders to their comrades to conceal themselves before discussing strategies with Yang Fang.
“I never expected that while the enemy's strength is lacking, their weaponry is fully equipped. They used snipers on the plains, and now they’ve resorted to Gunfire in the jungle—what a clever tactic.”
Yang Fang couldn't help but punch the Giant Tree Trunk beside him in frustration, gritting his teeth as he said, “By using Gunfire, they can significantly narrow the gap in strength. If any of us gets hit, we’ll become glaring targets—completely exposed to their firepower. How can we fight like this?”
Jufeng's anxiety matched Yang Fang's, but more critically, while Jungle Warfare emphasizes individual combat capabilities, it does not mean there is no need for coordination. Each soldier must support one another; the entire unit must function cohesively. If one person gets exposed, it could jeopardize their entire line of defense, leading not just to a simple gap in strength but potentially allowing for a counterattack.
The first cry faded after ten seconds. Following it were the second and third cries; one could easily imagine the fate of each Terrorist struck.
In the command center outside the battlefield, Yang Chou received reports from his subordinates along with casualty statistics that provided him immediate insight into the battlefield situation. However, his demeanor was far calmer than that of Jufeng and Yang Fang. It was unclear what hidden trump card he possessed that allowed him to maintain such an air of confidence amidst chaos.
After a while, he fixed his gaze on the screen and said, seemingly oblivious to his surroundings, "You go ahead and remind them to drag the time until evening. I want to see if you can still maneuver so freely when it's pitch black."
In the command room, Yang Chou finished speaking, and a young figure quietly vanished. For a martial arts master, entering such a vast battlefield unnoticed was indeed a piece of cake.
It turned out that Yang Chou's confidence stemmed from Chen Tan Hua; through Chen Tan Hua, he could remotely control the entire battlefield at any time, ensuring they wouldn't be leaderless and scattered.
The once silent jungle suddenly became noisy, with abrupt shrieks piercing the air, followed by the rapid fire of bullets pouring in like rain.
Yang Fang and Jufeng organized their subordinates and had engaged with the enemy several times, discovering that this Gunfire was even more formidable than they had imagined. Yang Fang gritted his teeth, desperately suppressing the urge to charge out. Watching the passive situation unfold was akin to being an ant on a hot pan.
Jufeng hit two opponents in the abdomen, demonstrating that his shooting skills were quite decent. As he observed the battlefield, he realized their side had fallen into a comprehensive disadvantage. If this continued, defeat was inevitable.
Jufeng looked up through the dense foliage; the sun was already setting. The jungle no longer shone as brightly as during the day but instead took on a dim yellow hue.
He calmed the anxious Yang Fang, saying, "Brother Yang, this isn't a solution. I suggest we retreat together and try to delay time, dragging them into the night. Once it gets dark, their ability to discern positions by sound will diminish significantly. At that point, we can take advantage of the chaos; I believe that's our only option now."
Hearing this, Yang Fang's expression brightened as if he had grasped a lifeline. However, moments later, concern crept back in. "That's a good plan, but we can't contact the other two right now. If we retreat and they don't, we might face accusations."
Jufeng nodded; Yang Fang's worries were valid. If their retreat didn't lead to victory, they would surely become targets upon returning.
After pondering for a moment, Jufeng realized that notifying them would require crossing enemy lines. Aside from himself, it seemed no one else could handle it. He then suggested, "Brother Yang, why don't I go notify them?"
Yang Fang felt warmth in his heart at these words but recalled the incident on Planet D156 and decided he couldn't let Jufeng take risks for him again. Just as he was about to object, they heard rustling from nearby bushes. Both he and Jufeng turned toward the sound and were surprised to see an unexpected figure appear before them.
The newcomer was covered in leaves and dirt, clearly having endured numerous hardships to arrive here. With an ever-present smile on his face, he said, "No need for you to worry; I've already informed them."
Jufeng and Yang Fang exchanged a glance, feeling a newfound respect for Yang Chou. It turned out he had a backup plan, and it was a pity that they had worried so much earlier.
Chen Tan Hua had arrived here and conveyed the news that had been delayed until nightfall to the other two leaders. Just as he reached Yang Fang, he heard Jufeng's remarks, and his gaze toward Jufeng also held a hint of admiration.
The three of them had not been there long when they learned more details; the enemy was not far away. They immediately began to blend slowly into the jungle, avoiding direct confrontation with the opponent, waiting for nightfall.
Meanwhile, another team of terrorists was reveling in their recent performance. They had started with sniping, followed by gunfire, both achieving the expected results. If only time would pass a little faster, victory would belong to them. One of the leaders was strolling through the forest, convinced that success was in their grasp, already stepping into the doors of Triumph.
Just as he was basking in his self-satisfaction, a subordinate rushed forward to report urgently, "Boss, something seems off. It’s like Yang Chou's people have disappeared."
Upon hearing this, the leader nearly stumbled over a branch underfoot, realizing that things were not going as smoothly as he had thought; trouble was brewing.
