After a night of fierce battles, the results were glorious, at least relatively speaking. The members of the Hurricane were naturally filled with joy and encouragement, while the other side, the United Heart Association, was engulfed in profound sorrow and despair.
Han Fan was a perceptive individual who could read the situation well. The night’s combat made it clear to him that Tang City was no longer a place to linger. The situation between the Unification Alliance and Hua Gang remained uncertain, and being deep in enemy territory left him feeling uneasy.
The most significant reason for his discomfort was the unexpected death of Shi Jin. With a powerful ally by his side, he had felt invincible; now that ally was gone, and his sense of security plummeted like the temperature in winter.
Thus, early the next morning, after consulting with Shi Yushu, Han Fan immediately ordered a retreat. This was not a minor withdrawal but a full retreat back to the territory of the United Heart Association, arriving in Zao City, Shandong Province.
Initially, this area had no clear allegiance. However, since the United Heart Association unified control, it had gradually shifted towards Shandong Province. When Flower Snow Moon was in power, she had noticed this development but hadn’t had time to respond before everything was thrown into chaos by the Hua Gang Elder Council.
With Hurricane achieving victory in Tang City, they were eager to press their advantage. Jufeng and Xue both understood the importance of seizing opportunities at such moments. Originally, Jufeng intended to head to Yingguo due to unexpected developments in the battles involving Blazing Axe and the Yamamoto Clan. However, he decided to delay his departure to capitalize on this opportunity.
In this context, Hurricane sent two groups southward. The first group followed the retreating main force of the United Heart Association, while the second group consisted of defensive forces that crossed the river directly from Washing City.
The battle in Shandong Province was also quite stalemated; the United Heart Association showed no intention of retreating even an inch and deployed numerous elite troops. Despite being outmatched in strength, their substantial wealth allowed them to compensate somewhat for their shortcomings.
However, unlike before, Jufeng did not plan to engage in slow attrition warfare. Instead, he led the Azure Wind Antelope and elite members from various Tang factions to specifically target key strongholds of the United Heart Association. With a precedent of taking heads in chaotic battles, Jufeng executed a similar strategy and swiftly eliminated six senior management members of the United Heart Association in Zao City during the first night. This left the United Heart Association in a state of panic and fear.
When people are burdened with anxiety, they cannot charge forward boldly during duels. In narrow encounters, bravery prevails; however, faced with Jufeng's blade, the United Heart Association clearly could not muster such courage and suffered consecutive defeats.
The United Heart Association barely held on for two more days in Zao City before hastily retreating back to their stronghold in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
This strategic approach by Hurricane could not be sustained over time due to the high intensity of continuous combat. Even Jufeng found it challenging to keep up; let alone the elites from various factions and Azure Wind Antelope.
However, from the outset, Jufeng had no intention of pressing forward recklessly; he merely aimed to secure absolute advantages and ensure everything was stable before his departure.
On the third day, Jufeng quietly left Hurricane's ranks but made slight adjustments to his predetermined route. Instead of crossing oceans directly, he opted for a detour across the grasslands.
At the edge of the boundless grassland, the confrontation between the Giant Wolf Gang and Hua Gang was taking place. Fate had played a cruel trick, as the opponents were once allies: Yu Jianyuan and Politeness.
The newly appointed Wolf King, Surge, was a man of iron will and passion. Due to his past relationship with Politeness, he offered unwavering support to him, and of course, Politeness had promised benefits after their victory or defeat.
Facing them was an old acquaintance, the Grand Elder of Hua Gang, who rarely had the opportunity to meet. He was quite at ease, allowing Yu Jianyuan to take full charge against the Giant Wolf Gang.
However, for reasons unknown, both sides engaged in a back-and-forth battle with no progress at all. It resembled the tug-of-war style of combat seen previously with the United Heart Association and Hurricane. After such a long time, it was unclear which side held the advantage.
Jufeng's purpose for coming here was simple: to meet familiar faces and get to know new friends.
The city on the grassland was no different from countless others. The meeting place for Jufeng and Yu Jianyuan was rather cliché: a private room in the Gorgeous Hotel. It was easy to set up an ambush there, yet it also provided a sense of security for both parties.
When Jufeng arrived in a hurry, he found Yu Jianyuan already waiting inside. As he pushed open the door, he saw that the spacious room contained only Yu Jianyuan.
"Feng Shao, long time no see."
Jufeng smiled and shook his head as he strode over to take a seat, casually placing one leg on the chair as if he were a rogue by a street stall.
Taking the glass of water that Yu Jianyuan offered but not drinking it, Jufeng held it in his palm and said with a grin, "You haven't changed at all. When I returned, Lin Cheng surprised me. I thought people from Hua Gang were good at creating surprises, but you just stick to your old ways. It's really disappointing."
Yu Jianyuan naturally didn't get angry; he merely defended himself: "Clothes may not be as good as new, but old friends are still reliable. I have to remain consistent; otherwise, how can I live up to Feng Shao?"
Hearing this, Jufeng became furious and shouted, "Did I help you back then just so you could turn around and fight me now? What a fool I am!"
Jufeng and Yu Jianyuan had met because of helping Hua Gang restore its power. Back then, they were comrades-in-arms who fought together against Guan Chao's army in Zhao City, creating legends. Yet now, time had passed, and they found themselves on opposing sides.
The smile on Yu Jianyuan's face couldn't hide his inner sadness. After a moment of silence, he slowly said, "Hua Gang raised me; I cannot be disloyal. You have also shown me kindness; I cannot be unjust. But since ancient times, there has been a law: one cannot have both fish and bear's paw. How can loyalty and righteousness coexist? I am sorry for you, Feng Shao; this is an unchangeable fact. If there is a next life, I will surely repay your kindness."
Jufeng snorted softly, picked up the cup on the table, and drank the water in one gulp. He disdainfully said, "Who knows how elusive the next life will be! Trusting your words is no better than believing in ghosts."
Unlike Yu Jianyuan and Lin Cheng, Jufeng had little intersection with Lin Cheng but a lot with Yu Jianyuan, especially with Hua Gang's two dragons in between.
Suddenly, Jufeng recalled the hot-tempered Dragon King and asked, "What happened to Wu Li? It seems I haven't heard any news about him since I returned."
This seemed to be something Yu Jianyuan was unwilling to mention. He sighed deeply and murmured, "He opposed Pizza Hut's rule and was supposed to be executed. However, due to my and Tang Haoran's pleas, Pizza Hut feared causing a stir and instead exiled him back home."
Jufeng suddenly slammed his hand on the table and exclaimed, "Look at Wu Li! Where there is oppression, there is resistance! And look at you all... me!"
Jufeng was so furious that he was left speechless!
