Life would be perfect if it were always as it was at first glance, yet time is cruel.
The World Has Changed, But Memories Remain—time is merciless.
In short, time is always an unwelcome word. Life diminishes with the passage of time, and the firmness of youth Skin gradually fades away.
However, time is something that no one can resist.
Commander looked at Jufeng and Five. Although that bloodied figure should have been drenched in the blood of Saint Envoy, there was not a trace of hatred in his eyes; instead, they held a hint of pity.
"Since you understand the cruelty of time, why do you still resist? Can't you just go with the flow and follow the rules of this world?"
Li Ji scoffed disdainfully, "Aren't rules meant to be broken? When have you ever followed the rules?"
Commander shook his head while Li Ji glared at him coldly.
Their conversation drew everyone's attention again. Five turned to look and saw Li Ji. Suddenly, a spark lit up in his eyes, and he unconsciously felt his murderous aura diminish slightly.
He glanced at Jufeng, as if subtly conveying something. Then Jufeng understood and smiled happily, saying to Five, as they walked into the arena.
Jufeng had always sensed a familiar aura about Li Ji. Now that Five had arrived, bloodied from battle, Jufeng suddenly realized that this aura was indeed Five's.
Fearless of life and death, with no regard for mortality—that was the defining characteristic of Five Man Slayer, and also what made him so terrifying. Jufeng had never understood how Five had developed such a death-forgetting fighting spirit through life's trials. However, seeing Li Ji today brought him to a deeper understanding.
In this regard, Li Ji was very much like Five, perhaps even more so than the others.
It was as if one were a master and the other a disciple.
Walking towards Li Ji, Five found his path cleared by the Holy Envoy Members, who stepped aside to let him through. He passed between two dilapidated bookshelves and arrived before Li Ji.
Five looked at Li Ji, who returned the gaze. The former's eyes sparkled with joy while the latter's were filled with anger.
"Smack!"
A crisp sound echoed as Li Ji removed his hand from the back of Five's head, then scolded, "You useless thing! Who told you to come here? When did my affairs become your concern? Do you think just because you're here, you can kill this hypocritical bastard?"
Li Ji was increasingly agitated, as if he were about to strike Five on the back of his head once more.
However, Five showed no signs of anger. He flashed a brilliant smile, revealing his bright teeth.
"Master, I only just learned that you were coming. Otherwise, I would have brought the entire Heroic Journey with me to help you take down this Nonsense Commander. Unfortunately, time was too tight, and I couldn't make it in time. But I thought, even if I were to die, it would be too lonely for you to face it alone. If I fear loneliness while alive, how could I let you go alone on the road to the underworld?"
Five finished speaking with a smile, but his words left those who listened with a profound sense of emotion. Coming alone was meant to accompany his master on the journey to the afterlife; what a heavy bond that was, and what noble courage it represented. The members of the Holy Envoy all lowered their heads in respect.
Li Ji looked at Five. His face still bore an expression of anger, yet there were glistening tears welling up in his eyes.
"Don't let me embarrass myself in front of these people; it's really a damn hassle."
Li Ji flicked his long hair again and then turned his gaze toward the Commander and the Iron Fist in his hand.
"I know you're the most hypocritical one here. Our matters should be resolved between us two. If I die later and you still have breath left, remember to let my disciple leave safely. In my life, he is the only disciple I can barely tolerate. If you dare to wipe him out completely, I'll haunt your cousin's aunt as a ghost."
Jufeng watched Li Ji's reckless demeanor and felt an unexpected surge of respect for him, even more than for the Commander. Despite his disheveled appearance and absurd behavior, he was truly a person of deep emotions.
Five was the Leader of Heroic Journey, practically its figurehead; however, Jufeng knew that the founder of Heroic Journey was someone deeply connected to Five. It must be this untidy Li Ji standing before him.
With Li Ji leading all of Heroic Journey to sweep through Saint Envoy, victory would not be out of reach.
Although Saint Envoy had many elites, their numbers were few. In contrast, Heroic Journey was a world-class assassin organization with assassins as numerous as grains of sand in the Ganges River. The truth in martial arts is that one person's fists cannot match four hands; put bluntly, if everyone spat at once, they could drown this group.
Yet Li Ji chose not to do so; instead, he came alone into the Tiger's Den. This showed that he was not an evil person—at least not a selfish one. If Saint Envoy clashed with Heroic Journey, it would truly lead to devastation.
One should not judge by appearances; not all disheveled individuals are despicable.
Facing Li Ji's pale and powerless threat, the Commander did not respond immediately but instead looked past Li Ji at Jufeng and Five, seemingly lost in memories he could not shake off.
When Jufeng's gaze accidentally met that of the Commander in mid-air, he decided he should step forward as an Onlooker who saw through everything. He believed there would be a turning point in this situation.
Stepping from behind Five and Li Ji to stand before them, Jufeng looked at the Commander with gentle and kind eyes before speaking slowly.
“Commander, I am an outsider and, by all rights, have no qualification to participate in your private matters. However, since it involves my friend and I happen to be here, I cannot simply stand aside.”
Jufeng stepped forward, slowly uttering those words. He was originally a bystander, merely an observer, yet unexpectedly found himself on the stage.
“Since you have stepped forward, you are naturally no longer an outsider. Isn’t the path of life made up of our own choices? Do you really think you can reverse a result that was already prepared by relying solely on your own strength?”
Li Ji looked at Jufeng, who stood beside him, his gaze filled with many emotions, but what shone through the most was a sense of overconfidence.
Indeed, Jufeng stood among the Members of Saint Envoy, flanked by two extraordinary figures and a bloodied individual, appearing somewhat audacious.
Yet Jufeng remained composed. He turned to Li Ji, bowed deeply in respect, and then spoke calmly.
“I bow to you out of admiration for your courage and for the relentless spirit you displayed during battle. Truly, you embody the essence of a great hero.”
“However, I cannot fully agree with your words. What do you mean by a result that was already prepared? Is it the life and death you perceive? Is it the death imagined by those present? I truly cannot concur.”
Some members of Saint Envoy understood Huaguo’s language, so after Jufeng finished speaking, a few light chuckles echoed through the crowd.
Since the target was not the Commander and not their own people, they felt no need to show respect. Thus, although the laughter was soft, it was brazen and filled with mockery, making it hard to accept.
Jufeng was not a tolerant person; at least towards those who were not his friends, he would show no mercy. However, in this situation, he did not express his emotions but simply turned to look at the Commander, waiting for his response.
Ikeda Kenji felt a stir within him; he had already sensed some signs of death approaching but at this moment felt those signs recede lightly.
Five looked at Jufeng's back and felt much more at ease.
Li Ji's expression sharpened as if Jufeng's words had awakened something deep within him that he had been reluctant to acknowledge and had kept buried for so long.
He too looked towards the Commander.
The crowd turned their attention to the Commander as well.
Everyone's breathing became calm and quiet; the atmosphere grew still because the next speaker would be the Commander. The words about to be spoken could very well change the course of the situation.
Commander’s gaze remained fixed on Jufeng.
After a moment, he slowly said, “You are the young man who killed Utada Hikaru?”
Jufeng was taken aback by the words, then slowly nodded, silently admitting it.
The members of Saint Envoy present couldn’t help but gasp in shock. Utada Hikaru was the Vice Captain of Saint Envoy, but her death was due to personal matters, so it didn’t really have much to do with Saint Envoy. However, being the Vice Captain of Saint Envoy meant she was incredibly powerful, something they all understood well. They never expected that she would die at the hands of this young man.
Just after Jufeng nodded, he added, “Utada Hikaru is the one I killed.”
As soon as these words were spoken, those present who could understand began to gasp again. The circumstances surrounding their Vice Captain's death were indeed suspicious, with two people now claiming responsibility.
