The table was filled with wine and dishes, and after several rounds of drinking and tasting, it was time to get down to business, setting aside the food to discuss serious matters.
With the warmth of the wine coursing through him, Fides recalled Jufeng's earlier purchasing power, and a wave of excitement surged within him. Casting aside his doubts and viewing the transaction from a business perspective, he found it hard to resist the allure of the deal.
Fides confirmed once more, asking, "Brother Zhang, your order earlier truly surprised me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have made such a joke. Now that I think about it, are you serious?"
Jufeng smirked disdainfully, then raised his glass and downed it in one go. His tone shifted slightly as he boisterously replied, "When have I ever spoken falsely? Of course it's true. My family has recently acquired mining rights to a mineral planet, while others who bid have gone home empty-handed. Naturally, those who failed will be envious, so our head of the family is concerned about this issue and decided to purchase these weapons for defense. Although the scale is larger than usual, don't worry; we have our own channels to transport them off Earth."
Jufeng skillfully wove his tale according to the information in his chip, leaving no gaps. Hearing this, Fides felt even more convinced.
He quickly calculated in his mind: fifty mechs along with three standard configurations were indeed enough to cover the costs for the terrorists' escape. As for the wasted resources, they could be liquidated at a discount later; even if they didn't make a profit, it would still be worthwhile.
With his mind at ease, Fides's enthusiasm for drinking with Jufeng grew. Under the persuasion of Hua Cheng and others, it wasn't long before a flush appeared on Fides's face, clearly indicating he was nearing his limit.
Seeing Fides in this state, Jufeng knew that further discussions were impossible for the night. He tactfully declined more drinks and soon wrapped up the banquet.
However, Jufeng couldn't leave for a hotel to sleep. Although Fides appeared quite drunk, his mind was as clear as ever. He still had people subtly confine Jufeng and Hua Cheng here, keeping them separated from each other.
The place was equipped with jamming devices; no communication equipment could function here. This indirectly meant that both Jufeng and Hua Cheng were unable to contact the outside world while the terrorists believed themselves to be safe.
But what good did that do? By the time Jufeng arrived here, everything that needed arranging had already been set in motion. The opponent had taken the initiative while they remained trapped in their own designs; naturally, things wouldn't end well.
Of course, to match Zhang Feng's demeanor, Jufeng pretended to complain and make noise for a while. Eventually, under the soothing words of one of the leaders, everything settled down without incident.
However, Jufeng thought he could finally enjoy a restful sleep. To his surprise, an unexpected event occurred in the middle of the night.
Jufeng was lying on his bed when he suddenly heard someone open the door from outside. The footsteps were light; it sounded like someone with a slender build had entered.
Jufeng lay still, feigning sleep, yet his ears remained alert, intently listening to the approaching footsteps.
The distance from the living room to the bedroom was barely ten meters, yet the visitor took twelve seconds to traverse it, a testament to their caution.
Upon entering the bedroom, Romain's nostrils flared slightly, and his brow furrowed. He had caught a faint whiff of perfume wafting towards him, confirming that the visitor was a woman. This realization quelled his initial urge to spring into action; it wasn't because he wished to take advantage of her presence.
A killer would never wear perfume; otherwise, they would be detected long before reaching their target, rendering all their efforts futile. Moreover, Romain felt no murderous intent emanating from her, further solidifying his deductions.
This person was most likely the Socialite Sister.
However, Romain was not one to act recklessly. Up until now, he had only been involved with two women, both of whom had become his partners. He had no intention of simply yielding to this woman's advances, or more accurately, to Fides' intentions.
Yet if he were to refuse her, wouldn’t that reveal his own insecurities? Wealthy individuals often had fleeting affections; Romain should not be so conveniently devoted. From his behavior earlier that evening, he appeared to be a villain; how could he turn away a woman who came seeking him?
This was likely part of Fides' assessment as well; it seemed his thoughts were indeed unusually meticulous.
Romain felt conflicted as the scent of perfume grew stronger and the woman's figure drew nearer.
Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he couldn't help but smile in the darkness, feeling outsmarted by his own cleverness.
The woman entered and saw Romain sleeping soundly, which eased her anxiety somewhat. She was indeed the Socialite Sister but not a woman who could be easily swayed by money. Having navigated the underground market for some time, she understood that aligning herself with someone powerful was essential for her future. Thus, she had become Fides' woman and had enjoyed many nights of revelry over the past few months, earning considerable returns.
Her visit here was also at Fides' behest; she dared not refuse. Everyone in this place was capable of murder without hesitation; she could not afford to offend them. Therefore, she arrived as per Fides' instructions, meticulously timing her entrance and steps.
Now that she stood before the window, her heart raced slightly; however, as she prepared for what she knew best—her familiar business—she began to relax.
She slowly lifted the covers of Jufeng, planning to first drape half her body over the bed and then wake the man with a kiss. However, just as one leg landed on the bed, Jufeng was startled awake.
With a roll, Romain flipped out of bed and stood on the other side, casually turning on the bedside lamp, flooding the dark room with light.
What met Romain's eyes was a woman with long hair cascading over her shoulders and fair skin. She looked anything but ghostly; her features were quite delicate, though her current posture was rather ungraceful.
She wore fishnet stockings and was half-leaning over the edge of the bed, one leg already on the bed while the other remained on the floor—a position that was truly unusual.
Her face displayed a dazed expression, clearly caught off guard by Romain's abrupt reaction and their unexpected meeting in such a manner.
She knew her posture was inappropriate, yet it was undeniably alluring. She was aware of her purpose for being there, so she didn’t rise immediately. Instead, her face suddenly transformed into a smile as she tossed her hair back with a flirtatious flair, preparing to say something suggestive.
However, her mouth opened, but no words came out.
Romain beat her to it, speaking first and making a gesture that jolted the woman into realization, prompting her to flee in panic.
Romain abruptly grabbed the blanket from the bed to cover himself and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Are you a pervert? Climbing into someone’s bed in the middle of the night—are you trying to assault me?”
His voice was short and powerful but carried an unusual emotion. The woman recalled the popular notion of romance between genders and swallowed hard before bolting from the room in mere seconds.
Human potential needs to be tapped into, Romain thought as he watched her hurried retreat. It seemed that woman had been thoroughly disgusted.
He turned off the lamp and lay back down on the bed, chuckling to himself, “Competing with me? Just don’t—though that backside of hers is quite impressive, rivaling Ruth’s.”
After a brief interlude, the night passed peacefully. The next day, Fides found that for some unknown reason, he always stood a bit farther away from Jufeng. Hua Cheng, unsure of what was happening, glanced between Jufeng and Fides, feeling bewildered.
Last night was their first meeting, and today they were to proceed with the usual protocol. Due to the enormous quantity requested by Jufeng, Fides had consulted his leader overnight. Jufeng knew it was none other than the Azure Dragon Monk and received the promised news. Today, they would go to the warehouse to inspect the goods.
For convenience in retrieving the items, ordinary goods were typically located in cities near underground trading markets. However, because the mechs were too sensitive, they could only go to a distant and remote city in Ireland.
Early in the morning, everyone set off, and after about two hours, they arrived at the location of Fides's warehouse.
Nestled by mountains and water, this place often seemed too unremarkable to be remembered. Jufeng felt that this was exactly the case here.
He wondered how the Terrorists had discovered this location and managed to transport mechs here. The manufacturing facility must not be far from this place.
