"Are you blind? Can't you see that I'm wearing designer clothes? Can you afford to pay for the damage?"
Chen Tan Hua shouted at the poor maid, drawing the attention of those around them. People looked at the overturned wine glass and the puddle of liquid on the floor, then glanced at Chen Tan Hua's imposing expression and the maid's tearful, distressed face, quickly understanding what had happened.
There are always people who put on airs, and those with narrow minds tend to cling to such matters. Usually, if the boss comes out to offer some compensation or a bit of face-saving, things can be settled calmly. Everyone was so used to this kind of situation that it had become rather dull.
However, Jufeng had devised this method precisely because it was common and wouldn't raise suspicion. Yet, as he listened from a distance to Chen Tan Hua's shouting, he couldn't help but chuckle at how someone dressed in such shabby clothes could make such a fuss.
The maid was flustered and could only repeatedly apologize as Chen Tan Hua spat words at her. Soon after, a middle-aged man who appeared to be in charge stepped forward.
The middle-aged man had actually noticed the commotion since Chen Tan Hua's first shout but had been assessing the situation from afar. Dressed in inconspicuous athletic wear, he was somewhat handsome but showed no signs of wealth.
As an experienced bar manager, he quickly assessed that Chen Tan Hua was just a brash individual without any real background. It was rare to encounter someone pretending to be powerful without genuine strength; if they truly had that kind of ability, they wouldn't be trying to show off in this bar.
Dealing with someone like this required a firm approach. Alongside the middle-aged man were five or six muscular men glaring at Chen Tan Hua.
"Sir, please remain calm. On behalf of the bar and this maid, I sincerely apologize. How about this: we will cover your expenses for today as a gesture of goodwill."
The middle-aged man was in the business of hospitality; despite recognizing Chen Tan Hua's attitude, he knew he had to approach him politely first. He didn't mention compensating for Chen Tan Hua's clothing to spare him embarrassment in front of so many people over a debate about the value of his clothes.
His intention was to de-escalate the situation; after all, maintaining the bar's reputation was paramount.
Seeing someone in charge step forward with a calm demeanor, those who had gathered to watch began to lose interest and started to leave. They assumed that Chen Tan Hua merely wanted to take advantage of the bar and would now get what he wanted, allowing him to save face.
However, Chen Tan Hua's reaction made those who were about to leave turn back around.
"Is that all? Just free drinks?" Chen Tan Hua caught the middle-aged man off guard by grabbing his collar and pulling him closer.
"Look at my designer clothes—shouldn't I be compensated for them? I don't want much; just give me ten thousand dollars and I won't pursue this any further."
Ten thousand dollars! Chen Tan Hua's outrageous demand drew laughter from the crowd. That amount could probably buy an entire trainload of goods.
Listening to the mocking voices from the crowd, Chen Tan Hua remained indifferent, but the middle-aged man turned a shade of purple, resembling foie gras.
He gestured to his subordinates behind him and waited for the scene where Chen Tan Hua would be beaten. Those who seek trouble must learn their place, and if they come looking for a fight, they should understand their own limitations.
However, while the middle-aged man thought this way, the onlookers shared similar sentiments as the burly man approached Chen Tan Hua. Yet, the outcome surprised everyone once again.
With one hand gripping the middle-aged man's collar, Chen Tan Hua used his other hand to block the burly men who attempted to confront him. Two of them fell to the ground, while another grimaced in pain, his face contorted.
Seeing this, the middle-aged man was taken aback. His assessment of the situation was not wrong, but he had misjudged Chen Tan Hua's strength.
Gasps of astonishment echoed among the crowd. Many young women looked at Chen Tan Hua with sparkling eyes, and a few bold young men cheered in unison.
The commotion grew louder as more burly men arrived, increasing the pressure on Chen Tan Hua. However, since he had a firm grip on the middle-aged man, they were somewhat deterred and did not dare to engage him directly.
Jufeng observed coldly from a distance, sipping his drink while casting his gaze upstairs.
Soon, six or seven people surrounded someone as they descended the stairs. Jufeng's eyes narrowed as he downed the remnants of his drink and stood up to approach the chaos.
"Hey buddy, picking on a girl isn't very manly. Since she agreed to cover your bill, why are you still being unreasonable? Even I, just watching this unfold, find it hard to bear."
As a third party entered the fray, both sides instinctively stepped back. Chen Tan Hua glanced at Jufeng with a raised eyebrow and disdainfully replied, "This is my business; what does it have to do with you? Go cool off somewhere else and stop pretending to be a savior here."
Out of the corner of his eye, Chen Tan Hua spotted someone in the crowd whose face appeared in his mind. Realizing an opportunity had arisen, he feigned an attempt to push Jufeng aside.
However, Jufeng sidestepped effortlessly, causing Chen Tan Hua's hand to grasp at empty air. Romain then clamped down on Chen Tan Hua's wrist and delivered a punch aimed at him.
Of course, he did not strike Chen Tan Hua directly; that would overshadow Jufeng's heroic aura. Instead, under Jufeng's attack, Chen Tan Hua had no choice but to retreat to avoid it, thus releasing his hold on the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man cast a grateful glance at Jufeng. However, before Romain could respond in kind, Chen Tan Hua's counterattack was already upon him.
Jufeng's gaze sharpened as he braced himself with both arms to block Chen Tan Hua's strike before closing in and engaging him in combat.
The onlookers clearly did not expect that what started as a good show would turn into something even better, full of excitement. More and more people gathered to watch the spectacle, with many enthusiastic supporters cheering from the sidelines.
Yang Kan was upstairs discussing the development of the gang with his subordinates when he suddenly heard reports of a disturbance. After a while without any sign of it calming down, he decided to come down personally to handle the situation. However, he did not expect to see someone standing up for justice, and it turned out to be a skilled fighter.
The battle between Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua, in front of true masters at their level, was essentially a performance. It appeared thrilling, but in reality, it was just flashy moves and empty gestures. Yet, Yang Kan and his brothers watched with keen interest, feeling a spark of excitement.
"Yang Ge, this guy with a strong sense of justice has some decent skills," one of Yang Kan's confidants whispered.
Yang Kan nodded in agreement, a smile unconsciously spreading across his face. The gang was at a crucial point for talent acquisition, and he couldn't help but feel an urge to recruit both fighters. If it weren't for Chen Tan Hua instigating trouble and making it difficult to win them over in front of everyone, he would have seriously considered bringing both under his wing.
At that moment, it seemed as if Jufeng was already within his grasp.
He exchanged glances with the person who had just spoken and then signaled him to approach. The man understood and brought a few subordinates forward. Seizing an opportunity, he suddenly intervened to help Jufeng push Chen Tan Hua back.
Seeing another person join the fray and realizing he wasn't gaining any advantage against Jufeng, Chen Tan Hua snorted disdainfully and said, "Bullying someone outnumbered—what kind of hero is that?"
Yang Kan stepped forward from behind, adopting an air of authority. He first offered a warm smile to the bewildered Jufeng before addressing Chen Tan Hua. "Earlier, you bullied this maid; is that what heroes do?"
At thirty years old, Yang Kan had an impressive demeanor. Having sat in the boss's position for a year naturally gave him an aura of dominance that could easily sway some naive young people.
Chen Tan Hua snorted again as if Yang Kan's words struck a nerve, leaving him unsure how to retort.
Seeing that he wasn't getting anywhere today, he turned to leave. Yang Kan's subordinates intended to pursue him but were stopped by Yang Kan's hand.
He turned to face all the patrons and said loudly, "I sincerely apologize for this unexpected incident that has dampened everyone's spirits. On behalf of Wolf Fang Bar, I offer my apologies and promise that all consumption tonight will be half price. I hope everyone can forget this unpleasantness and enjoy a pleasant evening."
Yang Kan wasn't short on money and didn't care about the revenue from tonight; he was desperately seeking talent. This display was clearly meant for Jufeng's observation.
The onlookers felt they had struck gold with the discount and cheered as they returned to their merriment. The earlier incident seemed irrelevant to them—just like watching a lighthearted movie.
Yang Kan turned his gaze towards Jufeng, who smiled slightly in return, acknowledging the earlier courtesy.
"Brother, I truly appreciate your righteous assistance just now. I wonder if there’s a chance for us to sit down and have a drink, as a token of my gratitude."
Jufeng hesitated at these words. Noticing this, Yang Kan felt a twinge of anxiety and quickly added, "Please don’t misunderstand; I have no other intentions. I simply want to express my thanks. If you look down on me, then forget it."
Yang Kan feigned a slight frown, and seeing this, Jufeng seemed to make up his mind. He replied to Yang Kan, "Since you’ve invited me so warmly, I would be remiss not to accept. My name is Jufeng; I apologize for the disturbance, Yang Ge."
With that, Jufeng followed Yang Kan upstairs.
Meanwhile, Chen Tan Hua lingered in a corner outside the bar, glancing up at the second floor with a mutter under his breath, seemingly very reluctant.
