In the Warring States, there was no longer any atmosphere of fine delicacies. The cooking smoke had turned into gunpowder, and the ingredients in the iron pot had transformed into bullets.
Jufeng closely followed Vera up to the second floor. This was not a dining area but a storage room, cluttered with various items in the spacious space, and further inside was a Cold Storage Room.
The Gunner was not an ordinary person; he quickly recovered from his shock and ascended the stairs, pursuing Jufeng and Vera. Bullets continued to rain down, and beyond the two seated next to Jufeng, others steadily left their seats to join the chase.
It was evident that this had been premeditated.
However, there was no time to investigate where things had gone wrong, as for Jufeng and Vera, survival was the priority amidst the hail of bullets.
They crouched and rolled behind a large cardboard box, evading the gunfire from A Squad, and gathered together.
Their eyes met; Jufeng felt a twinge of guilt. At such moments, a man inevitably bore responsibility, though Vera's gentle glance indicated that she held no blame against him.
Jufeng's gaze fell to a basin of ceramic plates at Vera's feet, and an idea began to form in his mind for countering their attackers.
The Jade Plate could be a wonderful choice against the dark bullets.
Vera forcefully pushed the basin toward Jufeng's feet and gave him an encouraging look with a charming smile.
Nurtured by love, Vera's demeanor shifted from that of a red rose to a wild chrysanthemum—much more lively and cheerful—lifting Jufeng's spirits as well.
Jufeng pulled the basin closer and picked up one of the extremely thin plates with both hands. He listened intently for sounds from behind to confirm the position of their pursuers. Then, with a flick of his wrist, he sent the thin plate flying like a frisbee toward the enemies behind them.
Each plate flew accurately toward its target. The Gunner was taken aback by the sudden projectile hurtling toward him and instinctively raised his gun to shoot in self-defense.
The stray bullet veered off into the air, and Jufeng seized this advantage. He leaped out from behind and swiftly closed in on his pursuers before they even caught sight of him, quickly taking them down.
However, behind the three of them, the pursuers were relentless. Jufeng had just taken down these three when figures appeared at the stairway.
Jufeng grabbed a handgun and began shooting wildly at the stairway while retreating, backing up until he was beside Vera, just as the last bullet was fired.
Jufeng threw his handgun with all his might, and then a heavy object rolled down the stairs.
In an instant, Jufeng took Vera's hand and turned to disappear on the second floor.
A loud call echoed from the street outside, causing the two disappearing figures to seem to pause momentarily in midair.
“ Jufeng!”
Jufeng followed the voice and stepped onto the street, but Vera did not accompany him. Instead, he saw a figure waiting in the middle of the street.
Jufeng was unfamiliar with this figure; they had likely never met. However, the intense killing intent emanating from them felt all too familiar.
Once, he had climbed over walls and rooftops, only to be struck by an external missile that left him severely injured. Now, more than three months later, although he had recovered, the scar still felt fresh.
“Have your wounds healed? They must have left scars. I’m truly fortunate to have left some marks on Feng Shao.”
Like the photos Liu Gulang had shown Jufeng, this figure exuded a fierce and ruthless aura, truly deserving of being called Hear the Command.
The corners of Hear the Command's mouth lifted slightly, but to Jufeng, it felt like a severe smirk that carried an air of mockery and disdain.
This made Jufeng quite displeased.
"I originally thought it would take some time to avenge this gunshot. I didn't expect the Wen Commander to be so considerate, planning to repay it now?"
As Jufeng spoke, he stepped forward with his right foot, shifting into a more comfortable stance.
Hear the Command listened to Jufeng's unyielding response and couldn't help but laugh, then abruptly clapped his hands in the street, seemingly in agreement with Jufeng's words.
However, in the empty street, with the sound of applause, dozens of Gunner suddenly appeared from the unknown alleys.
Jufeng's expression hardened; he certainly wouldn't sit still. He immediately turned and dashed into a nearby building.
As Jufeng's figure disappeared, countless bullets struck the afterimage he left behind.
"Feng Shao!" The mocking and sarcastic laughter of Hear the Command echoed through the street. "Since Wen has come to atone for his sins, why does Feng Shao still hide? Why not come out and claim what you deserve? Hahaha..."
The laughter pierced Jufeng's heart like a sharp blade, causing him immense discomfort.
He punched a piece of debris that lay in his path into countless fragments, unwillingly dodging the bullets that continued to surge from behind.
It felt endless.
As he leaped over a building, Jufeng found Vera. She was slightly out of breath, clearly having endured quite a chase herself.
Jufeng felt even more remorseful; aside from the dead Guan Chao, he had never felt such anger directed at anyone else.
He cupped Vera's delicate face in his hands, filled with both pity and rage.
“Hear the Command, damn it!”
Vera could see the distress in Jufeng's heart. How could she not feel pain for her beloved?
Her delicate hand grasped Jufeng's large palm as she shook her head and said, “Three months, countless light-years, and we’ve made it this far. What obstacle can’t we overcome?”
It was a rhetorical question, but also a statement of belief.
Jufeng looked into Vera's determined eyes, silent for a moment before he nodded heavily and said, “Don’t worry, my love. I will kill him and take you away!”
Vera pouted playfully, “No taking advantage!” Then she was pulled by Jufeng, and they began their escape once more.
Previously, they had relied on mechs to flee through the Magellanic Star, never resting for three months.
Now they were on an unknown planet, without mechs or the protection of metal armor, relying solely on their hands. They still had to escape.
Outside were thousands of elite Suihuan Army soldiers. Hundreds of passersby were astonished, wondering who was powerful enough to provoke such a force from the Suihuan Army.
When some realized it was the Fate Organization pursuing them, they couldn’t help but feel sympathy for the fleeing couple, shaking their heads and sighing.
It seemed Jufeng was destined to run, fleeing without a moment’s respite.
But he hadn’t done anything wrong! What exactly had he done wrong from the beginning?
In the deep black night, two people stood in a ruin, gazing at the starry sky. Jufeng felt a sense of confusion within him.
Vera pressed herself against Jufeng's chest, listening to his heartbeat. With a gentle tone, she said, "The wind is not at fault; it is this world that is wrong. Sooner or later, everyone will understand that what the wind does is a great endeavor."
Jufeng ran his fingers through Vera's hair, thinking that as long as the people around him and those in his heart could understand him, it wouldn't matter if the whole world was hunting him down.
At this moment, more than two thousand people were searching for Jufeng nearby.
"If two thousand people still can't yield results, your credit for finding Jufeng's location will be diminished," Shangguan Wangyu said to Hear the Command on the other side of the screen, issuing an ultimatum.
Hear the Command replied confidently, "Rest assured, Your Highness. By tomorrow evening at the latest, I will definitely find Jufeng!"
