Jufeng listened to the sounds that seemed to come from all directions, unable to suppress a curse in his heart. This woman was truly cunning; even the central command room was left vulnerable. The level of precaution was astonishing!
With an entire division's forces scattered everywhere, Romain dared not respond. The voice came through a machine, making it impossible for him to locate its source, which left him feeling quite frustrated.
Romain quickly concealed himself among the bushes, carefully observing the areas where crowds had gathered. He began to throw his grenades one by one, causing chaos among them.
Guerrilla warfare is a classic tactic of defeating a larger force with fewer numbers. Operating alone gave Romain greater mobility and more significant results. Even with Xiao Ji's chaotic commands, he remained hidden, making it difficult for the Scorpion Army to find him.
Xiao Ji's gaze remained fixed on the screen displaying the disheveled soldiers. From within, this was truly the command center.
Furrowing his brow, he realized that dealing with one person was indeed easier than dealing with a group.
After a moment, Xiao Ji instructed, "Form groups of ten and conduct a thorough search outward. Equip with trigger-reflective body armor."
The so-called trigger-reflective body armor is designed to activate and emit infrared alarms when bullets strike it, functioning for two minutes. Generally speaking, very few could evade such defensive equipment; the speed of infrared reflection was simply beyond human capability.
Seeing that his blind bombardment had no effect, Romain prepared to withdraw; he couldn't remain trapped there indefinitely.
However, just before he left, the enemy changed their strategy and began searching outward. This made Romain sense another opportunity.
To be honest, given Romain's current understanding of military matters, he had no idea what kind of body armor the Scorpion Army was equipped with. But instinctively, he decided against using an assault rifle since he wasn't skilled with it at all. Ironically, Xiao Ji's decision ended up benefiting him.
As the crowd spread outward, their density naturally decreased, allowing Romain to infiltrate deeper.
Once the search area expanded sufficiently, Romain finally began his actions. He moved eagerly through the underbrush, hiding in small gaps and nearly brushing past a team as he evaded detection and entered the interior.
Crawling almost on his belly, Romain knew that this place was riddled with cameras. After spending a bit more time than expected, he approached the center he had previously damaged; there were now only a few people left engaged in post-battle tasks.
At this moment, careful observation revealed an inconspicuous building about two hundred meters away from the command room he had destroyed that appeared to be protected.
The protection was subtle, perhaps hinting at some feng shui principles, but Romain's intuition told him that was where he needed to go.
Jufeng quietly made his way forward, careful not to alert the soldiers. He pulled out his last grenade and hurled it toward the target.
As always, it resulted in a tremendous explosion.
Xiao Ji was watching the screen, feeling a sense of urgency rising within her. Little did she know, the bomb had already reached her location.
With a thunderous roar, the ground shook, and the roof trembled; in an instant, the night sky was visible above.
Jufeng's figure soon followed, sweeping across the rooftop and scanning the room.
In the midst of it all stood a tall figure with striking features. Jufeng was certain that this person was none other than Xiao Ji.
As soon as Romain revealed himself, Xiao Ji turned to look at him. At that moment, a bullet also found its mark on Jufeng.
"Now that we've met, just a quick greeting. In the future on the battlefield, I won't show any mercy," Romain's voice echoed within the house, but his figure had already vanished, and naturally, the bullet missed him.
Xiao Ji, a Red-Class Mecha Pilot with exceptional individual combat abilities, grabbed a Sniper Rifle from the table and dashed out of the command room. Her bodyguards closely followed her.
Despite being prepared for an attack, she was still caught off guard by Jufeng at the doorway. Such frustration was unbearable for Xiao Ji. She took up her Sniper Rifle and maintained her swift pace as she led her Imperial Guard in pursuit.
Jufeng was deep behind enemy lines, and with that remark from the rooftop, he found it difficult to shake off his pursuers. In desperation, he discarded heavy items along his escape route.
However, bullets continued to rain down behind him, hampering Romain's speed and making it challenging to evade capture.
Just then, a bullet suddenly flew in from outside and struck one of Xiao Ji's personal guards. The bullet pierced through his skull, instantly ending his life.
Xiao Ji ran behind him; immediately all the soldiers halted in their tracks and dropped to the ground.
"General, the enemy has a Sniper Rifle."
It was the loli girl next to Xiao Ji, clearly someone who loved to talk. Xiao Ji cursed himself for making such a mistake and overlooking that woman.
He immediately took out his gun, quickly getting into the zone, and addressed those around him.
"You all continue; I’ll flush out that thorn."
This was military talk, and the people around him obeyed, continuing to track Jufeng.
Moments later, another bullet struck a soldier. Almost simultaneously, Xiao Ji fired a shot at a distant location.
Hidden in the grass, Vera watched in shock as a bullet grazed just half a meter away from her.
Xiao Ji was below her while she was above; she already had the advantage. Yet, despite the distance, he could shoot so accurately—better than her by some measure.
As she pondered this, another bullet came within twenty centimeters. Vera wasted no time; she quickly shifted positions and fired back, entering into a shooting duel with Xiao Ji.
Hear the Command had always prided himself on being a sniper expert, and indeed he had reached a near-peak level in this regard. If he were alive to witness the duel between these two women, he would certainly agree that there are always greater talents out there.
This was a battle between cat and scorpion.
Jufeng sprinted ahead while the others conducting a carpet search began to retreat. However, many in this direction had already been silently dealt with by Vera, allowing Jufeng to quickly reach the edge and find her.
"This woman has truly piqued my interest; can you wait a moment?"
Looking at Vera's slightly raised face, Jufeng felt a pang of guilt. Vera was originally someone who shone brightly, yet for his sake, she willingly suppressed everything. With such great kindness and such a request, how could Jufeng refuse?
"Alright, I'll go find Tian Feng and come back to support you."
That night, Vera and Xiao Ji filled a magazine with bullets for the Sniper Rifle, all heavy rounds, totaling fifty.
In this desolate land, too many innocent lives were lost just to satisfy the rivalry between two women. The flowers of Hastily suffered unequal treatment and were sacrificed without reason.
The outcome was naturally inconclusive; Vera failed to hit any soldiers from the Scorpion Army, and Xiao Ji did not manage to strike Vera either.
Before long, a group of mechs took off into the sky at high speed. The pursuit by the Scorpion Army continued, but there was no resolution in sight.
Among the entire Scorpion Army, the strongest was Xiao Ji of Crimson Rank, accompanied by her talkative little companion of Tenth Rank. There was no way they could capture Jufeng and his group.
However, as they were leaving, Xiao Ji delivered a shocking blow to Jufeng.
This left Jufeng exceptionally furious.
