“Within Chinese Military Strategy, there is a principle known as Surround and Support. In the context of Sniper Rifle combat, there is a similar tactic called Surrounding the Corpse to Attack the Reinforcements. Fundamentally, both concepts share the same principle: the focus is on encirclement, with the goal being to cut off reinforcements.”
“However, knowledge is not static; it must be applied actively. Our numbers are small, so the possibility of surrounding them from the start is low, but we must thoroughly understand how to cut off their reinforcements.”
Jufeng did not boast about himself, nor did he speak in a grandiloquent manner, yet his words were profoundly insightful, leaving everyone enlightened.
Jufeng's objective was clear: to use Hua Cheng's forces as bait, leading the command center to mistakenly believe they could contain this team that was not as strong as reported. Then, once his reinforcements arrived, they could completely annihilate them.
Jufeng traced two straight lines on a virtual map with his finger. One line represented the enemy forces pursuing Hua Cheng's group along their escape route, while the other line, crossing it at right angles, depicted Qi Fa's route as he rushed to their aid.
Inside the Battleship Command Room, there was a heavy silence as everyone's gaze returned to the screen, hoping that Jufeng's calculations and strategy would come to fruition.
At the enemy command center, two reinforced brigades were fully engaged in chasing down the fleeing invaders not far away. Of course, "not far" was relative; from above, it was still over ten kilometers.
Watching the Radar Screen and noting that the enemy had only a few regiments of troops, a middle-aged man couldn't help but smile.
Surrounded by his loyal guards, this particular brigade was currently the strongest among the six scattered teams.
One of his guards noticed the smile on the middle-aged man's face and stepped forward subtly to say, “Master, our enemies who launched this surprise attack are indeed quite strong. However, we didn't expect that we would see through their intentions early and urgently consolidate our forces. No matter how strong they are individually, what does their small number matter? Once we take care of them, Master will surely achieve great merit.”
This guard was skilled with words; he adeptly highlighted strengths while downplaying weaknesses. His flattery was neither empty nor overtly obvious; it felt particularly pleasant to hear without seeming forced. This was why a Blue Rank Upper Level mech pilot could stand beside the Master.
The middle-aged man felt genuinely pleased by these words. Following the trend of conversation, he continued, “Exactly! Just look at this current force; their strength is uneven. We cannot continue to scatter our forces; we must prevent them from wasting time picking us off one by one. Want to run? By the time each squad catches up from behind, let’s see where you can escape to. Continue pursuing with all your might!”
The mechs moved at incredible speed; in such a short time frame, if they were on Earth Huaguo, they would have already crossed several cities. However, before the Middle-aged Commander could wait for his reinforcements, news of disaster came from behind.
“Report to Master: one of our support units encountered that strong team midway and is now suffering heavy losses.”
The Middle-aged Commander furrowed his brows at the mention of his title. He muttered under his breath, "What bad luck!" Little did he know that Qi Fa was specifically targeting him.
In the vast wilderness, he had been unsure of where to encounter his foe. However, Jufeng had provided a clue, and he seized it, leading Qi Fa directly to a path as if a vine had sprouted, guiding him effortlessly.
The Middle-aged Commander weighed his options in his mind, realizing that if things continued this way, his army would be rendered useless. Yet, looking at the prey before him, he felt a deep reluctance.
After pondering for a moment, the Middle-aged Commander gritted his teeth and said, "Notify everyone to do their best to hold them off. The rest of the teams must converge with me as quickly as possible. Move!"
The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, making it easier to find the right direction.
Hua Cheng received Jufeng's orders and paused for a moment, engaging with the command center before feigning weakness and resuming his escape while the command center pursued relentlessly.
Both were mechs racing at full speed. Hua Cheng continuously maneuvered in curves as time ticked away.
In less than half an hour, Qi Fa had completely engulfed that squad.
After about another fifteen minutes, news came again from the Middle-aged Commander, confirming the saying: misfortunes never come singly.
The Middle-aged Master gritted his teeth and halted the chase, suddenly sensing something was amiss. After contemplating for a moment, he had an epiphany and slapped his forehead in frustration for being so foolish as to fall into the enemy's trap.
The loyal soldier beside him had yet to grasp why they had stopped. Observing the Master's fluctuating expression, he quietly retreated behind him.
"Notify the entire army to change targets to the operational point and support at full speed."
Having recognized the problem, it was time to take action. Jufeng watched as the command center redirected its course on the screen and couldn't help but smile again.
He murmured, "Isn't it a bit late to regret now? Notify the signal, full force attack, we must hold them for at least a moment."
This command left room for maneuvering; in fact, Hua Cheng's troops were all elite fighters. It would be extremely easy to stall a military force of that scale.
The Middle-aged Commander wanted to leave but did not expect that the fleeing army he had been pursuing would turn around and attack him instead, and with a ferocity that was markedly different from before.
Hua Cheng's Independent Regiment had been holding back their frustration since arriving here from Earth, having had no opportunity to showcase their abilities. Although they did not face outright exclusion from the Dragon Breaker Army, the sense of distance was palpable. Thus, they desperately needed this battle to prove themselves capable of joining the Dragon Breaker Army family. Naturally, they were determined to give it their all.
The battle quickly escalated into a fierce confrontation, with both sides switching roles and morale fluctuating. Escaping from this place was exceedingly difficult.
Moreover, after some time into the fight, news came from the rear that Qi Fa had once again devoured another troop and was heading towards another target.
Out of six armies, half had vanished; the command center was tied down, leaving only two squads remaining.
Qi Fa was like a wolf hunting for prey; it truly embodied the ancient saying of Surround and Support.
The battlefield was vast; if compared to Earth's geography, it spanned an area as large as a province along Huaguo's southeastern coast. After another five minutes, Qi Fa encountered a troop and easily annihilated them in even less time. Then it joined forces with another squad and headed towards the command center where Hua Cheng was engaged in combat.
By this time, the command center was already severely damaged.
The battle began in the afternoon and concluded under the fading light of sunset. The losses for the Dragon Breaker Army were almost negligible, while the opposing side faced total annihilation.
The fight lasted six or seven hours, with ten more remaining before their reinforcements would arrive.
Experimental results indicated that Jiang Xue's findings were flawless. It also showed that Jufeng's efforts over the past two years had not been in vain.
Back on the Command Ship, Jufeng personally offered his condolences to Qi Fa and Hua Cheng. Both were visibly exhausted after such a prolonged battle.
Hua Cheng was exhilarated, having not experienced such a thrilling fight in a long time. Qi Fa's face showed little emotional fluctuation; he merely restrained his rebellious aura significantly in front of Jufeng.
Vera looked at Jufeng and thought of the saying, "Live and learn," believing it should be upheld throughout life.
Ouyang Chang gazed at Jufeng and recalled the Dragon Elder, once again feeling that the old man was truly wise.
Jufeng turned his head to look at the desolate, lifeless planet and issued his final command.
"Set course for home."
