The Hurricane Army came from Earth, and although they were all fresh recruits, overall, they still resembled a brash rookie. However, their background was indeed privileged, much like a wealthy heir, exuding a certain fearlessness of the inexperienced.
Just like in the hastily fought battle at the border, there was little coordination, yet they still swept through like autumn leaves in the wind.
"But facing Cao Ke, if we just walk over like this, we might suffer a devastating defeat."
Jufeng and his team discussed their strategy for encountering Cao Ke, but Tong Bailong's suggestion for an approach similar to the previous one was politely rejected by Gou Hongbo.
Although this Fleet was called the Hurricane Army, Jufeng decided not to take command himself and appointed Ikeda Kenji as the Commander. After some initial discussions, they divided into two Masters: Tong Bailong would lead the Mecha division while Gou Hongbo would head the Battleship division.
Even though Gou Hongbo's mecha was only Azure Level, his expertise in Battleships was far superior. With various types of ships arranged in combinations aboard this Battleship, no one could match Ikeda Kenji except for him.
Gou Hongbo wasn't targeting Tong Bailong, who naturally didn't take it to heart. Ikeda Kenji understood that Gou Hongbo approached from a Battleship perspective and added, "According to reports, the Zhongzheng Army is the strongest among the five Dragon Head Armies, excelling equally in both Battleships and mechas. Therefore, we must deliberate carefully."
The Hurricane Army had been traveling through the starry sky for three days. Due to their full-speed journey, they had now reached their designated area.
Listening to everyone's discussions, Jufeng stood up and walked to the window overlooking the brilliant stars. He murmured, "Since Cao Ke has known we were coming for a long time, how will he greet us?"
The people at the table exchanged glances, pondering the meaning of Jufeng's words. Suddenly, the atmosphere grew somewhat somber.
Ikeda Kenji abruptly stood up and immediately issued orders.
"Notify the entire fleet to adopt a diamond defensive formation and activate level three defense. Deploy reconnaissance ships to triple their scouting distance and remain vigilant at all times."
With all commands dispatched, Ikeda Kenji finally breathed a sigh of relief when nothing unexpected occurred.
Jufeng's warning made sense; since Cao Ke knew they were coming, he would surely prepare a grand welcome for them. The best way to do that would undoubtedly be an ambush.
Fortunately, before any ambush could occur, Ikeda Kenji had taken precautions.
Yet for some reason, Jufeng still felt uneasy. What could it be?
On a distant planet, two battleships hovered in orbit, their crew members anxiously observing several red dots on the star map, their palms clenched in excitement.
"General, they have already fallen into the trap. Should we initiate our action?" a Master asked eagerly. However, Cao Ke remained silent and still, lost in thought.
Undoubtedly, those red dots represented Jufeng and the Hurricane Army. Although they were on high alert, they were completely unaware that several unmanned planets surrounding them had already been tampered with by Cao Ke.
With a single command from Cao Ke, the mysteries hidden within those planets would be activated, plunging the Hurricane Army into grave danger.
This left the Master perplexed as to why the usually decisive General Cao was now hesitating.
Cao Ke said nothing, and the Master dared not press further, leading to an uncomfortable silence in the room.
The Master could never imagine that at this moment, Cao Ke's mind was also occupied by a sense of unease.
Everything had been meticulously planned, including laying an ambush in this Star Domain. It was astonishing enough to calculate the marching route of the Hurricane Army across the vast interstellar space.
Yet, remarkably, Cao Ke found himself lacking confidence in his own carefully designed outcome.
This was an extremely terrifying realization.
Cao Ke pondered for a long while, replaying his thoughts repeatedly but still unable to pinpoint the source of his unease. He considered every conceivable scenario but remained unconvinced that Jufeng and his forces could resolve this crisis.
Yet that feeling lingered just out of reach, refusing to completely dissipate.
After some time, he noticed that the red dots were about to leave their optimal zone. The Master grew increasingly anxious, unable to maintain his composure.
Furrowing his brow, Cao Ke finally issued the order to attack. Ultimately, what compelled him was the memory of the battle from ten years ago against Chen Ziping.
The White Horse War God had already fallen; a mere hurricane was nothing to be concerned about.
Jufeng stood by the window, the meeting behind him having concluded. All the estimated strategies might not come to fruition in actual combat; the battlefield was ever-changing. It was better to respond to each move as it came, for that was the true way to victory.
Suddenly, alarms blared in the command room, and Jufeng's brow furrowed even deeper.
It had finally arrived.
After the alarm sounded, Ikeda Kenji directed the soldiers to immediately investigate the issue. Half a minute later, they received a definitive report: the energy system of the Battleship could not be activated within ten minutes.
The loss of control over the energy system did not mean that the Battleship would turn to cosmic dust, but it would certainly remain immobile.
Ten minutes was enough time for their entire army to be completely destroyed.
Ikeda Kenji looked at the screen, where rays emitted from several surrounding planets formed a large net, and he found himself trapped within it. His brow furrowed as deeply as Jufeng's.
"The Local Disruption Network... I never expected Cao Ke to lay out such an extensive local network."
The so-called Local Disruption Network was fundamentally linked to Jufeng's rescue of Jiang Xue during their escape from the Magellanic Star. Those mechs had fired shells into the air, creating a network that caused any mech touching it to lose energy.
The Local Disruption Network was most commonly used within planetary interiors; its mention in interstellar contexts was rare and typically reserved for wartime alerts.
Thus, it was no wonder that Ikeda Kenji reacted this way; this scenario had never been considered by anyone. How could they have prepared for it?
"How much backup direct energy do we have?"
"Only enough for the Command Ship to escape from here."
The network was too vast; thus, there simply wasn't enough backup direct energy to leave.
Ikeda Kenji did not hesitate for a moment and said, "All mechs, immediately disengage from the Battleship. All Battleships, switch to collision mode. Command Ship, proceed at full speed towards the eight o'clock direction."
The mechs were leaving to conserve their strength for the impending bombardment. Collision mode was the strongest physical defense available, designed to prevent decapitation. Therefore, the Command Ship needed to protect its integrity in order to have a chance for a counterattack.
Unfortunately, it seemed that such an opportunity was exceedingly slim.
Ikeda Kenji never expected that his first true battle in life would encounter such a situation.
Should he consider himself lucky, or was he overestimating himself by taking on such a significant challenge?
On the command room's screen, a spectacular number of warships appeared from all directions, clearly displaying the insignia of the Suihuan Army.
Jufeng looked at those insignias and suddenly felt a chill.
To be continued.
