Pu Qiang's words caught Zheng Yifan's attention. What could possibly compel a strong man like Pu Qiang to train so rigorously?
It was known that a weight of 100 kilograms would render an ordinary person immobile, yet Pu Qiang insisted on carrying such a burden for his training.
Zheng Yifan noticed something different about the soldiers as well. The last time, the Two Major Legions had applied for these weighted training equipment and other exercise gear.
Zheng Yifan didn’t question why and simply procured them; after all, the prices weren't too steep, and didn't real-world military units use such items?
However, it seemed that reality was far from his expectations. Every soldier in the Bloodbath Legion had begun running with weights, and the intensity of their training had significantly increased.
Even Pu Qiang had stepped up his training, indicating that there must be some discovery or purpose behind it.
Pu Qiang chuckled innocently, "These things are essential for training. Unless they don’t want to become Superpowered Individuals in the future, enduring hardship is the way to rise above others. That’s the hard truth. Training after becoming a Superpowered Individual is just wasting effort."
Zheng Yifan was pleased to see the Two Major Legions working hard, but it wouldn’t be right if they ended up overtraining themselves; there should be limits to weighted endurance runs.
Yet, looking at them now, everyone seemed unafraid of exhausting themselves; instead, they were pushing each other harder.
“How did you manage to get these guys to train so desperately? What if they wear themselves out?” Zheng Yifan pointed at the soldiers.
Pu Qiang gestured towards them, saying, “I promised them that if anyone gets worn out from training, I’ll… uh~ I’ll cover their costs to exchange for Essence with Military Merit to help them become Superpowered Individuals.”
Zheng Yifan immediately understood. These people weren’t afraid of overtraining; if someone did end up exhausted, consuming Essence would allow them to recover instantly. It was an incredibly miraculous substance—more effective than any medicine. While the idea of bringing back someone from the dead might be exaggerated, as long as they weren’t dead, they could almost certainly be saved.
“Moreover,” Pu Qiang continued, “after seeing Li Ning’s performance, who would dare not train? Compared to Li Ning, those Light Fist and Old Ghost techniques are just pathetic.” He hinted at something as he led Zheng Yifan into the base while still wearing his weighted gear.
Upon entering the base, Zheng Yifan noticed that around a hundred people were training on the field. They were running laps around the center where a platform made of broken materials stood. On top of it was a young boy practicing his Shooting Skill.
Upon closer inspection, it was indeed Li Ning. Each shot he fired was executed with incredible speed. Unfortunately, he only knew basic assassination techniques; however, in terms of speed and precision, he was nearly on par with Zheng Yifan’s usual training.
And Zheng Yifan had been training for an indeterminate amount of time already.
"After taking the Essence from Li Ning, all the scars on his body disappeared within a few moments, as if his bones, muscles, tendons, and skin had been completely reshaped. There was not a single problem left. Moreover, his strength increased dramatically; it seemed that the rumors were true—those who were stronger before becoming a Superpowered Individual gained even greater power afterward.
Zheng Yifan nodded. His body felt like a vessel; becoming a Superpowered Individual was akin to pouring water into that vessel—the amount of water it could hold depended on its size.
Li Ning was undoubtedly one of the best in the military, and now his physical strength had increased significantly.
Unfortunately, Pu Qiang hardly mentioned his Superpower, fearing that Li Ning might hear about it.
However, Zheng Yifan had already figured it out. The slight Vital Energy Fluctuation that accompanied the gunfire was Li Ning's Superpower. It didn't possess much power; it acted more like a lubricant, easing the friction between the gun and the air, creating a small flow of Vital Energy.
Next to the gun's tip, there was a faint stream of sharp airflow, resembling an additional blade extending from the spear. Yet overall, when compared to Light Fist or Old Ghost, it fell far short even against any random Superpowered Individual.
Zheng Yifan frowned. He could see Li Ning still training hard on the platform. Around him, ordinary soldiers watched with envious eyes, though there was also a hint of regret.
They understood that Li Ning's Superpower was essentially wasted; he would only be a powerful ordinary person from now on—no Superpower, just formidable Shooting Skills. His strength had multiplied several times, but his Superpower was of little use.
That Superpower was called Bipolar, capable of generating attraction and rejection forces with Vital Energy.
He had understood this at the moment he awakened his Superpower; he felt immense excitement then. Even though he had just recovered his body, he picked up his gun and attempted to demonstrate his Superpower.
But disappointment was inevitable. His Shooting Skills proved useless; the airflow slipped off the gun's tip, and the rejected Vital Energy could only form short gusts of wind blades.
The penetration power had increased, but it paled in comparison to the Superpowers of other Superpowered Individuals.
From that moment until now, he had been training his Superpower on that platform—a stage originally prepared for him to showcase his strength to the entire army—yet at this moment, he felt like a clown up there.
"What happened?" Zheng Yifan asked Pu Qiang.
Pu Qiang slowly explained to Zheng Yifan everything about this period of training.
No matter how he used his Shooting Skills or Fist Techniques, he could never unleash his full power; he even experimented on wooden dummies."
The gun was indeed more effective than before, and the wind blades were exceptionally sharp. However, this did not signify that Superpower was powerful; rather, it was weak, lacking the formidable lethality of Light Fist and the peculiar nature of Old Ghost.
It was merely ordinary, ordinary to the point of being mundane.
"Stop it; the leader has arrived," Pu Qiang commanded.
On the platform, Li Ning halted his movements with a vacant expression and turned to see Zheng Yifan approaching quickly.
With a thud, he knelt before Zheng Yifan.
"Leader! I have disappointed you! I am worthless; I failed to activate a powerful Superpower." Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. That was a bottle of A-Level Essence, an absolute treasure in the entire Gathering Place. No one except the leader had ever tasted it, not even their Legion Commander. Yet he had let down expectations, and of course, there was also the collapse of his own hopes.
"Remember, in this world, since there is Superpower, there is no such thing as a worthless Superpower. It is fair; when one door closes, another will open for you. It all depends on whether you can comprehend it," Zheng Yifan said thoughtfully.
Li Ning remained on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. After several seconds, he managed to choke out, "I want to be strong; I want to be powerful too. But my endowment is limited; I can't walk down the path of Superpower. However, I want to learn Shooting Skill from you, Leader. My gun is fast enough, and Superpower can make it even faster. I want to learn Shooting Skill. Even if my Dual Nature Ability can only serve as support, I believe I can master Shooting Skill."
"Please, Leader, be my master and teach me Shooting Skill!" Li Ning prostrated himself on the ground, banging his head against the earth until blood stained the gravel.
"Get up. Whether I teach you or not depends not only on me but also on your Legion Commander. If he doesn't allow it, how could I possibly take you?" Zheng Yifan helped Li Ning to his feet.
"Hahaha! It is our fortune that the leader can use someone from our Bloodbath Legion. It is Li Ning's good fortune as well. If anyone disagrees, they can leave at any time." Pu Qiang also hoped for a bright future for Li Ning because he knew that if Li Ning continued to stay in their legion, he would inevitably be surpassed by others in the future. For him, it would be a struggle; this person might end up useless. It would be better to hand him over to the leader; perhaps he could truly turn decay into wonder.
In Zheng Yifan's heart, he could almost be called a miracle worker because he was always surrounded by mysteries.
For instance, those supplies, food, and military equipment. But they would never pry into such matters; everyone had secrets. What they needed to know would be revealed to them; what they shouldn't know should remain unasked. In the army, there were only two words: "Obey."
"If you want to learn these Shooting Skills from me, you are always welcome. You might even be older than me; let's skip the title of disciple and just have you serve as my guard instead. As for Superpower, just don't lose heart; all Superpowers depend on the person using them rather than on the Superpower itself." After saying this, Zheng Yifan's mind briefly wandered back to movies he had seen on Earth.
If Magneto from X-Men had only reached First Level Superpower, he would merely be considered a human magnet with limited lethality. Yet in the movie, he ultimately became the greatest villain in the entire X-Men story—the final boss.
Everything depends on how one utilizes it. After pondering Li Ning's Superpower repeatedly, Zheng Yifan began to have a glimmer of inspiration based on his understanding of Vital Energy and his insights into Shooting Skill over these past few days.
If one were to focus solely on the form of the gun itself, this Superpower could only serve as a lubricant to unleash its potential.
But what if the weapon's form were to change? Instead of making the Superpower accommodate the user, what if the user found a way to adapt to the Superpower and recreate a weapon that best suited it?
Everything hinges on Li Ning's understanding in the future.
Right now, however, talents like Li Ning are needed.
With Stability secured in the rear, plans for trade and the plundering of Zombie Crystal s and Low-Level Essence Fruits should also be put on the agenda. In the days to come, he would primarily focus beyond Ruiguan and outside Jiang Grand Bridge, where he would find what he needed.
This task does not require many people; the Two Major Legions still need to ensure security within the Gathering Place, eliminate remaining Zombies, and enhance training.
A team of just thirty or forty people would suffice for external trade. The main combat strength would emphasize individual prowess. With Storage Space as a reverse existence, he was destined to be a mobile warehouse, and moreover, he had access to resources from the real world at any time. His role was to ensure his own safety while having a discreet team.
In the future, a team of between ten and zero members would be the optimal size to achieve this goal.
Zheng Yifan also set his sights here, with Li Ning as his first target. His initial objective was to weaken the potential within Han Sui City Gathering Place.
