The battle ended in less than a minute, leaving over two hundred Zombies as nothing more than remnants nourishing the land. Two telekinetically controlled Superpowered Individuals sat in a vehicle, sweeping up all the Zombie Crystal s.
Though they were merely First-Level Espers and lacked formidable strength, gathering Zombie Crystal s was their forte. The crystals were lightweight and easily detectable; Superpowers could readily identify them due to the intense Vital Energy Fluctuation emanating from within.
With just a sweep of their minds over the ground, they could collect all the Zombie Crystal s.
The convoy continued forward, creating a cacophony that attracted the Zombies.
Zheng Yifan's vehicle trailed two hoses, from which fresh blood flowed continuously, drawing in the Zombies.
Zheng Yifan repeatedly pulled blood bags from his Storage Space to replenish the supply.
The scent of blood attracted the Zombies, whose keen sense of smell made them highly sensitive to it. Within minutes, frenzied Zombies began to appear.
They were completely deranged, waving their arms and inhaling the aroma of blood in the air. Among the horde, Advanced Zombies roared to calm their subordinates, sensing that their minions were becoming restless and eager to break free from their control.
Many scattered Low-Level Zombies broke free and charged forward.
While this might not seem significant within the entire Zombie horde, it was enough to trigger a stampede. Even numerous Second-Level Zombies were swept along or charged out on their own, intoxicated by the scent of food—delicious food they felt compelled to obtain.
Before Zheng Yifan stood a massive wall of Zombies surging toward him and his team. Meanwhile, those behind remained tightly clustered together, not dispersing at all.
Yet even so, there was an overwhelming number of Zombies; they came in waves with no end in sight. The front line of Zombies crashed against Zheng Yifan's group with reckless abandon.
"Open fire!" Zheng Yifan commanded. Instantly, the Superpowered Individuals wielding Firearms around him excitedly disengaged their safeties and began searching for targets.
It was crucial to note that the primary objective in this battle was the Second-Level Zombies; killing Low-Level Zombies offered little benefit since their numbers were too vast. Even if five hundred people killed countless Low-Level Zombies, it would barely make a dent unless each one could take down thousands.
But that was clearly impossible; they lacked such power.
A low hum filled the air as the specially designed Machine Guns in the Gathering Place powered up. Then came bursts of flames as streams of bullets rained down upon the Zombie horde. They had undergone extensive training, achieving high accuracy. Moreover, the Firearms suited for Superpowered Individuals did not rely on conventional ammunition; instead, they utilized bullets devoid of gunpowder. The power came from individual Superpowers activating the energy within Zombie Crystal s to facilitate shooting.
At the moment they opened fire, it was as if a storm had struck the horde of Zombies, with numerous Zombies suddenly leaping up. When they fell again, they turned into a mass of flesh, collapsing to the ground and becoming a puddle of ichor that nourished the earth.
The intense gunfire significantly slowed the advance of the Zombies.
Of course, this was an illusion. The speed of the Zombies had never stopped; it only seemed slow due to the sheer number of Zombies being taken down.
However, for the vast number of Zombies, this was merely a drop in the bucket. Among them, Second-Level Zombies were beginning to emerge.
This was just the appetizer in battle; those Low-Level Zombies didn’t even qualify as that. Only the Third-Stage Zombies were the main course. Among their group, there were only a handful capable of taking down a Third-Stage Zombie in a one-on-one fight. Yet, if they unleashed their Superpowers as a large group, defeating a Third-Stage Zombie was still possible. When numbers reached a certain threshold, a qualitative change would occur.
However, these Zombies were clearly not like those Zheng Yifan and his companions had encountered before, who only knew how to charge recklessly. A large group of Low-Level Zombies led the charge, while Second-Level Zombies hid behind them, continuously advancing. The Scorpion Tail stood poised in mid-air, clearly ready to attack at any moment.
Zheng Yifan's Adamantium Shield flew once more, targeting the Second-Level Zombies at the back. Li Ning also stood up, his expression grave. The Special Weapon in his hand was ready; within the large sphere, Vital Energy Fluctuation spiraled while compressing countless amounts of air.
The power was indeed much stronger than before; his Superpower required a formidable Psychic Weapon to match it. With this new weapon, its lethality was immediately different.
However, Zheng Yifan noticed the vibrations of Li Ning's Special Weapon and the distorted sounds emanating from it.
Zheng Yifan knew that Li Ning's weapon was nearing its limit.
The enormous hemisphere bore greater pressure and required more strength; it was no longer that small sphere that needed to withstand little pressure.
“Whew!” Li Ning extended his weapon outward, and a whirlwind spiraled out from it. The wind wasn’t initially very strong, but its rotational speed was incredibly fast as it gradually absorbed surrounding air to empower itself, eventually forming a Tornado.
Yet Li Ning found himself sitting on the ground in despair.
“I had such high hopes back then; now even using this move is so exhausting! I’m afraid the weapon’s ideal lifespan will be reduced several times over.” Looking at his weapon, Li Ning felt both joy and sorrow.
The joy came from its immense destructive power; the sorrow stemmed from his pocket filled with Military Merit—real high-value Currency—that would be wasted on this weapon and would become obsolete in less than a year.
What about his own debts? They would undoubtedly outlast the lifespan of any weapon.
The sorrowful face looked at Zheng Yifan with a pitiful expression.
"Go! Don't just stare at me with that sour face. Figure out a way to earn more Military Merit. Even if your weapon's wear increases, doesn't that mean your lethality has increased? The gain and loss of Military Merit are directly proportional," Zheng Yifan said, satisfied with the Tornado ahead.
The speed was slow, barely above zero, yet its power was continuously increasing, absorbing the surrounding winds to strengthen itself with minimal loss. There were no forests nearby, just an endless expanse of wilderness and the freshly sprouted grass. There was no shelter from the wind. The wind's loss was minimal, allowing for growth instead.
The Tornado surged forward, tearing apart countless Zombies. Even Second-Level Zombies were caught in its grasp, lifted hundreds to thousands of meters into the air before being flung away.
It was like a meat grinder of death, shredding every Zombie that came into contact with it.
Suddenly, a Third-Stage Zombie appeared, its tail hammer crashing down on the Tornado.
The wild force caused the Tornado to sway slightly; however, it had accumulated considerable energy over time and was no longer as fragile as when Li Ning first unleashed it. Instead, it wrapped around the Third-Stage Zombie with unmatched strength and continued to rise. Countless Zombies collided and rubbed against each other in mid-air, their bodies and teeth clashing, resulting in some being crushed into pulp while others were torn apart and flung away.
It wasn't until they reached nearly a thousand meters in the air that the Tornado finally hurled the Third-Stage Zombie away with maximum force.
A distance of several hundred meters in mid-air acceleration combined with the terrifying weight of its tail hammer sent it crashing far away.
"Boom!" At a distance almost too far to see, a Zombie was struck by another Zombie flung from the Tornado, sending countless severed limbs flying from the impact.
The Tornado continued forward as Zheng Yifan and his team swept through Second-Level Zombies. Meanwhile, those Superpowered Individuals armed with Firearms fired fiercely. Several Armored Transport Vehicles were loaded with ammunition, their gun barrels embedded with Zombie Crystal s, allowing them to fire freely. The powerful projectiles spun through the air until they hit their targets. The immense tearing force left Zombies in tatters. Two Armored Transport Vehicles worked together to create a crossfire zone targeting the Zombies. They didn't even need to aim; they could sweep through targets effortlessly. Occasionally, when a Second-Level Zombie showed itself, it became a target for precise shots.
Despite the continuous fire from Machine Guns with minimal recoil, their accuracy significantly increased. For them, it felt like playing a shooting game without needing to consider wind speed or recoil; they could simply pull the trigger.
The enemies were like lambs waiting to be slaughtered as the Armored Transport Vehicles retreated swiftly while the pursuing Zombies surged behind them. The flanking Zombies were continuously closing in on their encirclement. Those already at Second Tier or even Third Stage rushed out first before gradually tightening their encirclement.
The Zombies in the middle were obstructed by Zheng Yifan and his team; however, there was nothing on either side as they slowly began to surpass the middle position by nearly a hundred meters.
The horde of Zombies moved like a wave, with gaps between them, yet the ones at the front were slowly pressing together, vying for the blood-soaked ground.
Once it was confirmed that the blood on the ground did not lead to food, they continued to follow the trail of blood.
"Speed up! The Zombies on both sides are closing in!" Zheng Yifan shouted loudly. This was information relayed by Zhou Rui, who had warned them that a large number of Second-Level Zombies were approaching from both sides.
They absolutely could not let them get close. Zheng Yifan kept reminding himself that if they allowed the Zombies to close in, he and his companions would likely be trapped here. The destructive power of hundreds of Second-Level Zombies was not something they could face head-on. Moreover, if their retreat was delayed, even more Zombies would surround them.
However, Zheng Yifan gradually lost the focus to worry about that because an even more dangerous Zombie appeared in his line of sight.
It was a Giant Sphere-shaped Zombie, slowly rolling towards them from a distance that was almost invisible.
Indeed, it had no limbs—just a spherical body—but Zheng Yifan felt a sense of terror because this Zombie was spewing out huge green Meatballs from its body, which flew through the air towards them.
At first glance, a single Meatball didn’t seem too frightening.
But nearby, Tian Ye had already noticed where the Meatball was headed. His hands crackled with flickering electricity.
"It's an Electric Zombie," he said. With determination, he raised his hands high, launching two Spherical Lightning bolts.
Then they saw the Meatball in mid-air suddenly release a surge of electricity that followed the trajectory of the Spherical Lightning into the horde of Zombies.
"Buzz!" A sound like rushing electricity filled the air as large swathes of Zombies fell like cut wheat, their bodies turning into puddles of goo. The sheer power was terrifying enough to instill fear in Zheng Yifan.
While its raw power might not match that of a Third-Stage Zombie, the extensive area of effect and instantaneous electrical damage far exceeded that of a Third-Stage Zombie.
Even more terrifying was its range; it could strike from several kilometers away, meaning it could attack those at Hope Gathering Place while their warriors couldn’t retaliate against it at all.
Fortunately, after releasing its Meatballs, the spherical Zombie seemed to lose considerable strength and merely rolled along without attacking for the moment.
"Retreat! Quickly retreat!" Zheng Yifan shouted loudly, swinging the Left-Handed Edman Alloy Shield to the left, where hundreds of Second-Level Zombies were closing in. The Adamantium Shield shattered their skulls, crushed their jaws, and pierced their necks, even taking away their Zombie Crystal s.
On the right side stood Li Ning, who, with a flick of her Special Weapon, unleashed a Tornado that blocked the Second-Level Zombies and sucked them in.
As for whether they lived or died, that depended on the luck of those Zombies, as the Tornado was no longer under Li Ning's control.
At that moment, Zheng Yifan suddenly heard a familiar sound that sent chills down his spine.
"Oh! Hahaha! Make it quick, you fools!" The wild laughter and the bell-like voice carried a hint of a wild woman’s charm that was intoxicating.
Bullets flickered in mid-air, suddenly increasing in volume. The rate of fire was clearly abnormal; behind her were several boxes of ammunition, but the belt could barely keep up with the shooting speed.
In an instant, the surrounding Superpowered Individuals awkwardly buried their heads in their pants, as this woman was so wild that killing Zombies felt like a slaughter.
There were no Machine Guns and far fewer devices than before, but Li Li's power had grown stronger. She had gradually begun to master Psychic Weapons. The gun barrel was custom-made in the Hope Gathering Place, making it more stable, heat-resistant, and even reducing recoil to an absolute minimum.
Her Vital Energy flowed more swiftly than ever before, as if it had been completely enhanced. Even pulling the trigger was now many times faster. What was even more satisfying was that the trigger could now stabilize and accurately transmit her control over Vital Energy.
The only downside was that those ordinary components could not perfectly showcase the capabilities of the two Psychic Weapon barrels and triggers.
Nevertheless, their formidable lethality continued to wreak havoc. The rugged projectiles spun with the power of Vital Energy until they penetrated the targets' skulls.
