How long can one sleep in a single stretch? Zheng Yifan had never known, truly unaware of his potential. Back in school, there was a classmate who slept through every lesson, earning the title of "God of Sleep."
But now? He felt he should reclaim that title from the overweight student who had once held it.
At nine o'clock, Zheng Yifan was astonished to realize he had slept for so long!
Perhaps it was due to mental exhaustion. However, upon waking, he found that everything had returned to normal; the fatigue in his body had completely dissipated, and even his Power of Faith had recovered. Yet, that power had weakened considerably. It seemed many low-level individuals had lost some confidence in him.
There was nothing he could do. In the face of such overwhelming strength, Zheng Yifan felt too immature and dispirited. He dared not approach Fortress Jiang openly.
From a distance, he took a look at Fortress Jiang and felt relieved. Without Uncle Jie’s help, Fortress Jiang was as solid as a fortress. Perhaps it was because Zheng Yifan had already eliminated several key Zombies inside; those Zombies were unlikely to regroup for an effective attack anytime soon. The troublesome Wire Zombie still wreaked havoc, but Zheng Yifan could only watch from afar, knowing they wouldn’t dare come too close to Ruiguan.
The reason was simple: Ruiguan had unveiled new inventions.
The Maxim Machine Gun. In the real world, it would be considered an outdated weapon.
However, the design concept of this weapon had been revived and fully utilized with Superpower Application. The bullet firing rate approached that of the Guard Cannon, while its overall performance was comparable to the Maxim Machine Gun.
Once upon a time, the Hope Gathering Place already possessed such technology, but back then it was still in its infancy. The electric control system wasn’t fully developed, and bullets hadn’t yet been properly shaped.
Now, the successful development of Superpowered Individual bullets marked a new era for weaponry.
These were not high-end products like those used by Li Li; the entire Machine Gun operated efficiently without excessive waste. There was no longer a need to constantly replace Zombie Crystal s; now they utilized bullets manufactured with Superpowered Individual technology. The production volume of these bullets was massive, and what made them even more formidable was their penetrating properties.
Unlike post-apocalyptic firearms where bullets relied entirely on explosions, the current bullets prioritized penetration and tearing apart targets. With so many Zombies around, explosive damage over a wide area proved ineffective; penetration became the best attribute capable of piercing through the tough skin of Advanced Zombies.
Zheng Yifan watched as bullets continuously fired from the wall-mounted guns without overheating. There was only slight friction; the bullets no longer expelled flames and thus maintained lower chamber temperatures. Their speed increased significantly once they exited the Muzzle.
Large groups of Zombies were pierced by these bullets, which then struck those behind them as if tearing through ragged fabric, shredding apart all Zombie bodies in their path.
Not a single bullet lingered on the first Zombie it hit. The rotation of the bullets accelerated further, making their destructive power even more terrifying.
The silver light shimmering above was the power of Superpower, maintaining the kinetic energy of bullets without consuming too much during the rotation and attack in the air of Fortune.
This was the essence of Superpower, merely preserved. If one wanted to cut costs, they could discard a vast amount of data and abilities, leaving only a minimal amount of cost-effective Superpower to form a more formidable attack.
Hope Gathering Place executed this concept to perfection. The lethality of the new bullets was undeniable; dealing with ordinary Zombies was far simpler than having Superpowered Individuals use their own Superpowers. It was more resource-efficient than burning them with flames. The price of bullets at Hope Gathering Place was not high, as Zheng Yifan had already piled up mountains of metal ingots. The manufacturing process for the new bullets began with simple casting techniques, followed by Mechanized engraving of formations, a task for Formation Masters.
It could also be done by Inscription Masters. However, all the Inscription Masters at Hope Gathering Place had been summoned to the laboratory by that Fellow known as Ten Thousand Steps.
Originally, he should have been honing his skills in the lab for some time, but this Fellow had recently reached a critical moment in breaking through to the Fourth Stage. Summoning all the Inscription Masters together was aimed at creating new weapons, reportedly a research project that could bring significant changes to Hope Gathering Place. Zheng Yifan glanced at the pages filled with formulas and immediately gave up on reading them, handing everything over to others and becoming a hands-off manager.
Hope Gathering Place was approaching steady development, merely waiting for the final crucial moment to open the Eastern Gate and completely eliminate or drive away Uncle Jie. That would be when Hope Gathering Place truly began to thrive.
Once his mood settled, Zheng Yifan opened the Time-Space Barrier and returned to the real world.
The air in the entire world seemed suddenly murky; it felt as though dark clouds loomed overhead. Although the sky remained blue, Zheng Yifan could sense an omnipresent pollution.
Compared to the Apocalyptic World, the air quality was vastly inferior. Looking up, Zheng Yifan surveyed his room, untouched by anyone else; a layer of dust covered the floor, and the house had lost its cleanliness. This was a place he rented himself, with no one aware of it.
Stepping outside, Zheng Yifan felt an unusual irritability wash over him; for a moment, he didn’t know what to do.
The real world was where he grew up, yet it felt unfamiliar now that he was far from home. Even more bizarrely, people around him seemed overly guarded; he often spotted individuals holding guns on the streets outside his window. Even if they weren’t nearby, weapons were surely present. The entire world had changed dramatically.
He casually turned on the television but couldn’t comprehend what was being said. The images showed nothing but hordes of Zombies causing panic. Zheng Yifan had no desire to deal with such a nuisance; that was left for the authorities to handle.
For some inexplicable reason, he randomly pressed buttons on the remote until it froze on a French gambling movie.
From that film, Zheng Yifan felt time rewind as he watched Chow Yun-fat’s Gambling God persona; for a moment, he genuinely wanted to visit a casino and try his luck.
To really play a game. He had never tried gambling before—going to a casino to gamble.
He had only played the biggest games back in school with Liu Hao, where they would gamble with a mere dollar in a game of Landlord.
Now, he was eager to experience the thrill of a real casino.
Since he had that feeling, he might as well act on it. This wasn't the Apocalyptic World; there was no threat of death. It would take an army of less than a thousand to take him down, and even that would be futile unless a nuclear bomb were to drop. Eliminating him would be extremely difficult.
If it came to gambling, the largest casino in the world had to be Las Vegas, the place where every Chad dreamed of dominating and embracing countless beauties.
But now that Zheng Yifan had the capital, he naturally wanted to soak in the allure of Las Vegas. More importantly, he needed an outlet for his pent-up frustration and depression from the end times.
Most of all, he was feeling down after being relentlessly bullied by Uncle Jie.
However, to be honest, it was impossible for Zheng Yifan to go to Las Vegas by himself.
First, he had no idea where the entrance to Las Vegas was!
Second, if he went alone, he wouldn't enjoy it at all. Everything would be a hassle, and his English skills were still quite poor; just thinking about translating made his head spin.
At this point, Zheng Yifan remembered the almost forgotten Translator Jessica. Of course, Uncle Jie had already dedicated himself to serving his parents; as long as they were living well, that was enough. It was just that he hadn't had time to visit them lately. Today could be a chance to indulge himself a bit and spend some quality time with his parents before diving back into chaos in the end times.
Compared to a peaceful life, Zheng Yifan preferred those adventurous days. Life in the real world was merely a form of daily diversion.
He opened his phone and couldn't help but admire how it still had one last flickering bar of battery left.
He searched for the number of the beautiful translator and dialed it.
The signal crossed over half of Paris and landed on the Champs-Élysées. On this fashionable street, a stylishly dressed girl felt her phone vibrate in her bag and then saw her expression light up with surprise.
Her handsome boyfriend looked at her in astonishment; after three months together, he had never seen her so thrilled. Even the million Franc necklace he had gifted her, which now hung around her neck, couldn't compare to this moment.
In an instant, a wave of jealousy washed over him; he felt as if his girlfriend no longer belonged to him.
"Hey! Boss?"
A man's voice came through the phone, young and unmistakably familiar. Although the language wasn't French, it was one he knew all too well—Mandarin. Without a doubt, the people walking down the street, those Mudbugs, were speaking that very language as they swept through luxury stores.
He viewed those who had abandoned their own culture in favor of foreign goods, lacking even a shred of national pride, as Mudbugs.
"Okay, Boss! Las Vegas? Today? Great, I'll arrange the flight right away!" Jessica exclaimed excitedly, bouncing with enthusiasm like never before.
It had been a year! An entire year since she had seen her Boss more than ten times. Today was undoubtedly the biggest surprise; she was fortunate enough to go to Las Vegas with her Boss, who genuinely wanted to have some fun for a while.
"Hey, hey, hey! I finally escaped my father's grasp, and you have to spend some time with me. I gave you a million-dollar necklace yesterday, and now you haven't even come to bed!" The man was starting to sound angry.
They had confirmed their relationship three months ago. He had been busy with work and thought today would be the day they would finally connect. But now this Fellow appeared out of nowhere, wanting his girlfriend to accompany him to Las Vegas.
How could he trust her to stay faithful there? If anything happened, someone would definitely make a move on her!
"No way! You absolutely can't go. So what if he's a Boss? Just a Mudbug from Huaxia—why go through all this trouble for him? Quit your job; I'll support you!" The young man uttered the most humiliating words of his life. (To be continued...)
