The figure of the girl gradually appeared on the screen beside him. There was no holographic projection; she simply walked within the confines of the screen, which almost encompassed the entire room. Zheng Yifan stood in the center, watching everything before him, his heart racing with anxiety.
He sensed a formidable force of attack within the room. Although Zheng Yifan felt capable of handling it and was confident he could successfully eliminate these devices, he couldn't shake off the unease in his heart. This was the Clean Room, where all the Supercomputers were located. If he caused any significant disturbance that damaged the Clean Room, there would be nowhere for Zheng Yifan to cry.
"Hey, I'm talking to you! You’re not mute, are you?" The voice of the girl filled the Clean Room, her figure appearing from all directions as she scrutinized every detail of Zheng Yifan's attire.
Unlike those mismatched Zombies, he was clad in professional gear—custom-made clothing that was loose enough to allow for maximum movement during combat.
There was no doubt about his combat prowess; the entire laboratory was under surveillance. He had already seen Zheng Yifan's combat time, and his strength surpassed that of an ordinary human, even exceeding that of superheroes depicted in movies.
"Of course I'm not mute! But what exactly are you? Are you alive or something else?" Zheng Yifan stared at the girl across from him. She looked remarkably real, her emotions rich and her thoughts seemingly coherent.
Zheng Yifan was certain that this figure possessed immense combat capabilities, whether through mechanical means or in terms of fighting skills.
Suddenly, a movie flashed through his mind—a film set in the real world featuring a Supercomputer with a similar appearance. That character was a girl named Red Queen.
Supercomputers might indeed possess intelligence.
"Are you talking to me? I am Eve, an Intelligent Supercomputer. There are only about a dozen like me in the world; you wouldn’t be so clueless as to not know that, would you?" Eve seemed to take delight in teasing Zheng Yifan.
She was the first living human he had encountered; everyone else had either turned into Zombies or been killed by them.
This place was a hotspot for Zombie mutations. When the apocalypse first struck, it had almost completely transformed, and only a few people remained before they were swiftly eliminated.
"Eve, that's a nice name, but this laboratory can't be that simple, can it? If I heard correctly, there are only a handful of them in the world. How could you possibly be in such a lab?" Zheng Yifan said with interest as he settled into a corner of the room, slowly chatting with Eve.
He wasn't in a hurry at all because he had plenty of time to listen.
After such a long battle, rest was necessary. More importantly, since it was a Supercomputer, the data storage must be substantial, and what Zheng Yifan needed was even more.
"Of course, if I’m not mistaken, the entire world has fallen into paralysis. Perhaps there are still some places where humans survive, but it's not very comfortable. I can observe the whole world through Satellites. The number of humans left is dwindling; those monsters and mutated humans are the most numerous, especially the mutated ones. They have almost occupied all the land," Eve seemed to enjoy talking, like a lonely woman sharing her thoughts with Zheng Yifan.
Gradually, Zheng Yifan learned a lot. The entire world had plunged into an apocalypse. However, domestically it was a disaster zone, where Zombies were most concentrated and rampant. In contrast, countries abroad with vast lands and sparse populations were in a strange state; humans lived scattered and slowly adapted to their lives, instinctively clearing out Zombies whenever they encountered them.
Except for those super Metropolises, many humans survived elsewhere.
Unlike domestically, where human housing demands differed—abroad, houses within cities were cheaper than those outside. In contrast, domestically it was quite the opposite; everyone wanted to live in the city, leading to an overcrowded population. In such circumstances, human deaths were naturally the highest.
Even more serious was that domestic weapon control acted as a death knell in the early apocalypse. In countries where private firearms were allowed, survival rates for humans were significantly higher.
But domestically? Sorry, you could only use a kitchen knife against Zombies; having a nail gun was already considered fortunate.
Zheng Yifan's Hope Gathering Place had become one of the most populated areas in the world, uniting combat power to collectively deal with Zombies. It was also one of the true Gathering Places that began clearing cities.
This laboratory was part of the Energy Research Laboratory in the Post-Apocalypse era—domestically renowned for its formidable energy research capabilities. They didn't just study Solar Energy; their research encompassed countless types of energy. However, other prohibited research projects were conducted underground. More seriously, they had a complete Military Defense System and Medical Equipment along with a Pharmaceutical Research Laboratory underground.
They were involved in energy, medicine, and military affairs; however, military strength was solely for self-defense while medical equipment research was quietly ongoing. They conducted live experiments using death row inmates for their projects.
This is a secret hidden beneath the ground, and of course, it cannot be revealed to others.
Zheng Yifan listened quietly, yet his heart was filled with joy.
The apocalypse had arrived, and humanity's survival abilities had improved. Gradually, they began to develop in the direction of medical treatment with superpowers. However, the reality was different; human life was fragile in that world, and even ordinary ailments could take lives.
Wealthy individuals were everywhere, but the money they earned over a lifetime could not buy back their own lives.
As long as Zheng Yifan obtained these resources, he could save lives. It was only when people faced death that they realized life was the most precious thing; they would willingly exchange any amount of money for it. Zheng Yifan needed not only their wealth but also their influence and assistance.
If he wanted to have an island or a large territory for himself, he needed more resources to survive and more space to maximize the production capabilities of factories in the real world. He aimed to produce the equipment most needed in the Apocalyptic World. Currently, he was still in the investment phase and had not acquired anything significant.
However, Zheng Yifan knew that with the birth of a large number of industries and the advancement of technology, the Hope Gathering Place would inevitably require a vast amount of consumer goods and military supplies. Ordinary tools needed to be produced, but standardized Psychic Weapons could also be researched to create prototypes in the real world, allowing every Superpowered Individual to possess weapons more quickly.
This is the value of capital in the real world. (To be continued...)
