Opening a store was something Zheng Yifan had never considered. In this day and age, what kind of store could still be opened? There were no places to source goods, no means to acquire supplies, and certainly no way for people to obtain more items.
Yet, someone had applied to open a store, and the location was peculiar. They wanted to use an old Agricultural Trade Hall, which was now a Vegetable Wholesale Market in the New District. This market had previously only been used for wholesale vegetables, and since it was newly built, it had yet to begin operations.
Originally intended to be a future transportation hub and distribution center, it had ample daily supply flow, making the Vegetable Wholesale Market quite promising.
However, Zheng Yifan was puzzled by the fact that there seemed to be no need for it now. All supplies had to be provided by Zheng Yifan himself, relying on ships from the Hope Group in Australia that continuously transported goods—primarily food produced locally in Australia.
The region boasted rich agricultural and pastoral resources. Previously, there were tariffs and other barriers that tightly restricted imported goods, but now those obstacles had vanished, making sea transport much easier.
Food could easily enter the shipping routes since the travel time for ships was short; it didn't take long at all. Moreover, Zheng Yifan possessed the largest fleet of cargo ships in the world.
The Hope Group was rapidly scouring the globe for supplies, with many cargo ships docking in waters near Australia.
It didn’t matter if there were no designated docking areas; they could simply anchor on the sea itself. As long as there were no storms or rough seas, it was perfectly fine.
Zheng Yifan arranged for those ships accordingly while docks were under construction in many locations.
This was a slow process. However, under the management of the Hope Group, it became quite simple. The Apocalyptic World offered numerous technological methods, and some of the techniques for constructing docks had been brought over by Zheng Yifan. In just a few months, a new dock could be built.
At least ten thousand-ton berths would soon be available.
This was the speed brought about by technology.
However, the power of these tools is immense, and only in the real world would one dare to play with them. If used here, the Zombie Crystal would be a complete waste.
Zheng Yifan now possesses so many resources but has no intention of building a marketplace.
These ten or so men actually want to partner up to take over such a large market.
He truly wants to know what these people are aiming to achieve.
"We don't have anything that would catch your eye, Chief, and from some channels, we’ve learned that the currency used within the group is different from the country's original currency. Therefore, we want to rent the market through a loan and pay a high interest every month," said a man in his forties with a weathered face, speaking sincerely.
Zheng Yifan found himself intrigued by them; these individuals were quite interesting. As for the Agricultural Trade Market, he was still very interested in letting his subordinates start operations there. These management talents would have ways to assess future development directions.
Moreover, the headquarters has enough think tank resources, so there’s no need for Zheng Yifan to worry about these matters.
"We are all failures; we once did business but ended up failing. Most of us were selling seafood at the docks, making little money while those with connections took the big profits. Now that we find ourselves in this situation, we discussed it among ourselves and decided to give it one last shot! Let’s see if we can carve out a path for ourselves," the man in his forties continued earnestly.
Then they slowly explained each of their backgrounds.
During that era when burdens were cast off in their country, they were all failures. Being laid off left them without jobs; contracting factories was beyond their capabilities, and ultimately they became burdens themselves. With just a small sum of money, they were sent home.
They wandered through many places and even tried to start businesses, nearly losing everything they had in the process. But during that time, it was incredibly difficult. Their greatest challenge was that many powerful individuals above them continuously exploited their value for survival.
In just a few years, they all became brothers in hardship. In the end, they fought desperately, using their last bit of money to rush to the port to trade seafood, trying to earn enough to support their families.
In this day and age, selling seafood is quite profitable. Over the course of more than a decade, several individuals have managed to accumulate nearly a million in assets.
Don’t be fooled by their pitiful appearance in front of Zheng Yifan; it’s simply because they are not on the same level. However, these people can already be considered part of the middle class in society. Their income is decent, and they have stable channels for purchasing and selling goods.
Yet, taking a step further seems like a pipe dream. Once the seafood comes off the ships, they cannot get ahead in line. The first wave of buyers consists of those well-connected big merchants who take away the best and freshest catches. The second wave involves those with ties to the port administrators who manage to acquire another batch. After that, local thugs will seize their share before anything finally reaches these merchants.
By that time, the profit margins are already slim, and they can only scrape by through hard work.
Everyone has their struggles. Despite their considerable wealth, they leave home at one in the morning and don’t truly return with goods until seven or eight in the morning. Then they must deliver to various stalls, and once that’s done, they still have to supply hotels and restaurants. It isn’t until three or four in the afternoon that they can finally rest, only to wake up and go fetch more goods again.
After more than a decade of this grind, it’s no wonder many feel worn down; who doesn’t carry their share of aches and pains?
Now, as they look at Zheng Yifan, they hope that during this special period, they might find a glimmer of fairness—a chance for equitable business practices and competition.
They see this as a turning point. No matter what happens, as long as they seize this opportunity, becoming wealthy is still within reach. They know that in a post-apocalyptic market, such prospects would have been unimaginable; managing the entire market would cost nearly a hundred million annually.
Now, as they aim to secure this opportunity, it feels like their last shot at life—a final flicker of hope still burning within them.
"You will need arrangements from the logistics department for your matters," Zheng Yifan replied. "However, I can assure you here that future commerce will be absolutely fair. The entire world will operate under a strategic framework akin to a chess game. Look further ahead, do your tasks well, be patient—everyone can be a winner in the future. As for the old customs and practices, those will not occur." As he spoke, his eyes glinted with a ruthless intensity. The palpable aura of menace sent shivers down the spines of those present.
