The girl named Xu Jie, left behind in Ancheng by Zheng Yifan, was truly playing a grand game. He once wished for the people of that city to worship him, and most importantly, Ancheng had many botanical gardens filled with Essence Fruits.
Now, it was uncertain how many they had accumulated, but it was likely a vast number. Without trading with the Hope Gathering Place, many of those Essence Fruits must have rotted away.
However, time was not too short; there should still be plenty to harvest.
By not collecting those fruits and allowing them to remain on the plants, the Essence Fruits would not decay.
Xu Jie possessed Superpower, and it seemed to be quite effective. The entire Ancheng was united as one, all Superpowered Individuals. It was hard to predict what the future held; he hoped to see what their Superpower would look like.
But did that thing called Holy Light really resemble anything from before? Purifying Zombies? Zheng Yifan did not believe it. He was more inclined to think it was a transformed form of Superpower.
Now he received news that the front lines needed him to mediate. They were unsure of the other side's situation, and without seeing Zheng Yifan, Xu Jie would not trust their words. Even though life in Ancheng was not great compared to the Hope Gathering Place supported by Zheng Yifan, where food was obtained with effort, the stored grains from before and supplies from other cities were crucial—especially since Granaries were their targets.
They had reportedly captured quite a few Granaries, and even the stronger Zombies dared not provoke them.
With one million seven hundred thousand Superpowered Individuals sharing the same Superpower and even able to communicate with one another, it was terrifying. When Superpowers gathered together, their destructive power became astonishingly lethal.
Zheng Yifan wanted to take a look. However, he still needed to attend to other matters first.
In the Hope Gathering Place, there was one location he valued greatly; it was a newly established area independent of the Hope Laboratory. It could also be considered a private factory.
That place belonged to Ten Thousand Steps.
Ten Thousand Steps could be quite a headache for Zheng Yifan. His inventions were practical, but his scattered mind made it unpredictable what he would create next.
Yet his enthusiasm for flight might lead him to produce weapons related to flying.
After receiving the news, Zheng Yifan knew he had to pay a visit. This individual had surprisingly applied for over a million Zombie Crystal s and several Fifth-Stage Soul Crystals.
Zheng Yifan himself hesitated to use such resources; the Zombie Crystal s in his possession were not even of such high quality.
The laboratory of Ten Thousand Steps was located on the outskirts of the Hope Gathering Place, quite remote and nearing the Ushumar Mountains.
Ordinary people generally wouldn't go there. Only Ten Thousand Steps, that Fellow, would endure hardship just to find some peace and quiet.
With a mix of anticipation and caution, Zheng Yifan arrived at the testing ground of Ten Thousand Steps.
He had named this place the Empty Laboratory. It was hard to tell what he was thinking.
However, the area outside the actual laboratory bore no resemblance to a lab at all. It looked like an ordinary playground, with a not-so-large factory building nearby.
This small space had consumed a significant amount of resources from Zheng Yifan. If there wasn't a good reason for it, he was prepared to teach this guy a lesson—at the very least, make him remember it for life.
"Leader! Is that you?" As Zheng Yifan reached the entrance, a robot-like creature suddenly rushed out from inside. It was about half the size of a person and looked quite bizarre, resembling something out of a sci-fi movie. It walked on four legs, and its head was triangular, with two cameras for eyes. The mouth area housed a loudspeaker.
The robot scanned Zheng Yifan and quickly displayed his information on a screen beneath its neck before confirming his identity.
In an instant, the large door swung open, and the robot raised its hand in welcome.
It was truly surreal; at that moment, Zheng Yifan felt a flicker of expectation for that madman Ten Thousand Steps.
Maybe he really would come up with something remarkable.
When Zheng Yifan reached the center of the area, he was immediately taken aback. Had he really developed something?
Before him stood a massive flying device resembling a giant disc, approximately ten meters in diameter. It didn't look particularly flat; rather, it resembled a conch shell. Now that it had stopped, he could see an elevator-like apparatus attached to it.
The robot dashed toward the elevator and ascended along a conveyor belt.
Zheng Yifan watched in confusion.
"Leader, this flying device is our latest product. It has already passed testing and was supposed to undergo its first flight today. Since you're here, why not join us?" Ten Thousand Steps said without any restraint.
Zheng Yifan felt helpless. To invite him on the first test flight? Didn't they consider the possibility of an explosion? If it did explode, even if he survived, he'd be thoroughly disgusted—if he came away without any injuries at all, he'd consider himself lucky.
But since Ten Thousand Steps was so adamant about it, he couldn't let him down. This Fellow was going to test it himself; if he didn't go up, wouldn't that show a lack of confidence?
With this confidence, Zheng Yifan stepped inside.
As he followed the conveyor belt in, he was greeted by steel walls reminiscent of a science fiction movie. There were not many decorations on them, and it seemed as if a blue energy was flowing within. Most importantly, he noticed numerous Machine Guns surrounding the area. While these weapons were ineffective against Superpowered Individuals, they would suffice for ordinary people.
Upon entering, Zheng Yifan felt that many things were beyond his imagination. What exactly had Ten Thousand Steps, this Fellow, invented?
Once Zheng Yifan entered the room, he discovered that the aircraft did not have many living quarters; most of the rooms were solid walls, and he had no idea what lay within. However, he was certain that Ten Thousand Steps, who appeared quite ordinary, was undoubtedly a madman.
But when he reached the innermost room, he was stunned by the sight before him. A holographic screen displayed all the external environments on a nearby monitor. There were dozens of control panels, each equipped with various devices that were clearly designed for combat.
Yes, aside from the main pilot's equipment, all other devices were combat-related.
Moreover, there were numerous external control panels for Superpowered Individuals nearby.
It seemed that one could enter a combat sequence from there and engage in direct battles outside.
However, none of this mattered as much as what lay before him: Ten Thousand Steps had changed drastically compared to the person he once knew. Most importantly…
His legs had transformed into something resembling robotic limbs. (To be continued.)
