"That's just insane. Do you want to throw away everything you have? Our current power and wealth come from navigating between all the Gathering Places. They allow us to do what we do, which is why we hold our position now. If we pledge allegiance to one of them, we will definitely be rejected by the others, leaving us with no way out. Many facts have proven this. It's better to remain a nomad without a nest; the Gathering Place is not something we should aspire to. It would spell disaster for people like us in the Chamber of Commerce." Carrot still couldn't bring himself to truly join this damned Gathering Place.
Even though he had witnessed the strength of Hope Settlement, he still couldn't convince himself to join. This was an unspoken rule in the Chamber of Commerce industry, and he didn't believe he could withstand the pressure from the entire sector.
"No! This is a revolution. Your superpower lacks formidable combat strength, which is why you haven't felt it until now. But outside, it's a time of war, a time for reclaiming cities, and a time for fighting zombies. Who knows when the zombie horde will come crashing down on us? We must do everything we can to ensure we have a safe haven." Old Skin pointed downwards.
"The land we're sitting on right now is at least relatively safe, with sturdy walls and fierce warriors. Although they only have a few dozen fighters, it's enough to protect such a Gathering Place," Old Skin urged Carrot.
However, several people in the tavern suddenly seemed to be holding back laughter that they had been suppressing.
"I'll think about it some more! Let's keep drinking," Carrot said as he lowered his head to drink.
After about ten minutes, they left.
"Hahaha!" As they departed, the tavern erupted with laughter like a tidal wave.
The two Fellows had no idea about the significance of this tavern; it was not an ordinary establishment but one frequented by members of the Explorer Alliance. Its location was very close to the city gate, and the two Fellows had come in for drinks.
But they were unaware that those explorers were mocking them internally!
It was like watching a ridiculous performance—so amusing.
Meanwhile, Zheng Yifan was in an interrogation room outside the Gathering Place's Quarantine Room, meeting Old Man Song.
This man was strong but also quite strange.
Strange indeed; Zheng Yifan really didn't understand why they always acted as if they were in a game while considering themselves bosses or even lord-level figures.
Was he really sent by my sworn enemy to mess with me?
The atmosphere in the interrogation room was not good; the design of this place was very low and cramped. It wasn't much better than the paupers' dens in the Post-Apocalypse—there was no decoration whatsoever, and the windows were practically a joke. In the center of the table sat a candlestick with a Red Dragon candle on top. This was something leftover from the old Gathering Place, taken from a wedding company.
Now, it had become one of their most important possessions. A single candle might seem laughable in the Post-Apocalypse context, but now, even one candle was an incredibly precious resource.
But the candle had already been lit. Not only that, but several other candles in the room were also burning brightly.
Old Man Song felt quite out of place as he entered; the room seemed to be filled with a decaying odor. More than that, there was a damp smell, and the floor appeared to be perpetually wet.
“Please take a seat! Our leader will be here shortly to speak with you,” said the captain of the Patrol Team, looking at the crippled man before him with a hint of disdain.
Old Man Song paid no attention to this; he was savoring this rare luxury in a post-apocalyptic world.
Candles, a blessing in the darkness. How precious they were! How many dangerous situations could have been eased with just one candle?
Unfortunately, there were none. They had fought tooth and nail just to survive.
Then they truly activated their Superpower. They found their sanctuary, even if it was just a village nestled in a valley.
There, they obtained everything they needed: Superpower, food, and all that was essential.
System God.
Yes, they called it the System God.
“Hey! Can I sit down?” Zheng Yifan opened the door and walked over, facing a middle-aged man whose face bore the marks of hardship.
He appeared so calm, not at all like a captive; rather, he seemed like the owner of this room.
“Welcome. In fact, this is your territory; I’m just an ordinary captive,” Old Man Song said with a smile as he looked at Zheng Yifan.
He never expected that the leader of such a powerful force would be such a young man. The clean clothes he wore and every accessory on him seemed so meticulously chosen.
This was Berry's handiwork. Zheng Yifan had often been urged to dress well, and now it had become second nature to him.
Subtly influenced, his attire remained quite refined.
"You are really lucky. I'm currently at the Gathering Place; otherwise, your fate might not have been the same," Zheng Yifan said casually.
"What would happen then?" Old Man Song asked with a smile, looking at Zheng Yifan.
"You would die. Anyone who dares to attack us at Hope Gathering Place will meet their end. And you are fortunate because I am here; they are like wild horses tethered down. That gives you a chance to survive." Zheng Yifan smiled as he lit a cigarette.
"Do you want one?"
"Forget it. I know what you want; it's back at our stronghold. Once you go there, you'll understand everything," Old Man Song replied, as if he already knew what Zheng Yifan was referring to, speaking lightly.
"Oh? You know? Then why do you still act so fervently, as if the whole world has turned into a game? Don't tell me you haven't noticed the anomalies. The world doesn't revolve around you." Zheng Yifan remarked.
"Indeed! The so-called game world is merely our territory, and it must be on this land using specific Essence Fruits to concoct Essence that can activate Superpowers like ours."
"But so what? Isn't it great that no one fears death? Moreover, we can only survive with such abilities."
"Perhaps you don't know; we are all a group of refugees. We encountered the System God and obtained everything we needed—Essence Fruits—brought back to our stronghold, and with some river water and branches, we could be possessed by the System God. What a great benefit! Even knowing all this and having studied it carefully, I still don't see any difference; it's just about using the prescribed methods to activate special Superpowers."
"Maybe you don't know, but I've seen other Superpowered Individuals before." (To be continued.)
