I returned to Yu Yuanhang's Buddhist Artifact Shop for the second time.
After I drove away the Water Monkey, the fishermen there set up a grand feast at the dock to thank me. I couldn't resist their enthusiasm and ended up drinking a few cups with them. Who knew there would be so many toasting me? Before I realized it, I was drunk, and that drunkenness lasted quite a while.
"I should really drink less in the future!" I rubbed my temples; my head still felt a bit fuzzy. As I walked into the shop, I saw Jin Yuan sitting at the counter, playing on her phone. There wasn't a single customer in the store.
"Jiang Ling, you're back!" Jin Yuan looked up at me and smiled.
I walked over and asked, "Jin Yuan, isn't Yu Yuanhang in the shop?"
Jin Yuan shook her head and said, "The manager is elusive; he rarely stays in the shop! Are you looking for him?"
"No particular reason, just asking!" I shook my head. I thought to myself that Yu Yuanhang was supposed to guide me in Buddhism, but since I had been busy alone, I hadn't seen him around.
"Jin Yuan, is there anything you need me to handle? I'm a bit short on cash lately!" I looked at Jin Yuan with hopeful eyes. Honestly, earning three hundred thousand in a month was extremely difficult. The only place I could think of was this Buddhist Artifact Shop. Anyone who came here to buy Buddhist artifacts was likely a tycoon; if I could manage to swindle one or two tycoons, I'd probably make enough money.
Jin Yuan looked at me with slight surprise. She shook her head and said, "We don't often have customers here; it's like we only open for business once every three years and then eat off that for three years. Recently, we haven't had any customers!"
"Then I'll leave you my phone number. If any business comes in, just give me a call!" Although I had already guessed the outcome, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. After exchanging phone numbers with Jin Yuan, I left the Buddhist Artifact Shop.
There wasn't much to do at the shop anyway; it would be better to walk outside and perhaps stumble upon some opportunity. My Buddhism practice still needed to continue.
I wandered aimlessly along the roadside and pulled out my phone to browse the news. To my surprise, there was a court hearing for Wang Xinyu scheduled for two o'clock this afternoon.
"This scumbag Wang Xinyu is finally going to face legal consequences! I must go see what happens to him!" A wave of relief washed over me as I checked the time; there was still over an hour until two o'clock. It would be too late to attend as an observer, but I should make it in time for the court to announce the verdict.
I made up my mind and took a bus towards the courthouse. On the way, I overheard many people discussing Wang Xinyu's case, and I even noticed that some were headed to the courthouse like me, waiting for the verdict.
"Hey, I'm going to the courthouse to get back at that son of a bitch Wang Xinyu. You're going there too, right? Want to join us?" A middle-aged man sat down next to me. He was dressed in a black hiking outfit and carried a large travel bag, speaking with an air of familiarity.
"Oh? What do you plan to do to get back at Wang Xinyu?" I turned to him, curious.
"I knew you were one of us!" He winked at me with a mischievous grin. He opened his travel bag and said, "I was supposed to go camping with my friends today, but as soon as I heard that Wang Xinyu was going to trial, I ditched them. I spent all morning preparing some gifts for that son of a bitch!"
I peered into his travel bag and saw it was filled with rotten eggs and decaying tomatoes. Many of the eggshells were cracked, emitting a foul odor. The smell made my stomach churn, and I nearly gagged.
Seeing my reaction, he proudly zipped up the bag and said, "Stinky eggs and rotten tomatoes—perfect! As soon as Wang Xinyu walks out of the courthouse, we’ll throw these at him. Even if we don’t kill him, we’ll definitely make him sick!"
He leaned closer and pointed at a few people sitting not far away. "I've already gathered seven people for this. You should join us!"
"You guys have fun; I think I'll pass," I replied, feeling speechless at how disgusting their plan was.
"Come on, brother! Don’t be so heartless! Let’s talk more about this!" He grabbed my hand eagerly, pleading with me.
I maintained a smile while shaking my head. If I joined them, I'd probably be arrested before they even threw those things. This is the 21st century—a society governed by law.
The man kept buzzing in my ear like a swarm of flies around my head until I could take it no longer. When the bus came to a stop, I clasped my hands together in a gesture of respect and said dramatically, "Amitabha! Good sir, I must disembark now; you should find someone else!"
He paused for a moment but quickly recovered. "Wow, didn’t expect you to be such a high monk! A young and accomplished high monk like you should definitely join us for some unique experiences! Hey, don’t go!"
I stood up from my seat and hurriedly ran off the bus, hearing a voice behind me that made my head spin. Embarrassed, I touched my ear and quickly blended into the crowd, leaving the bus station.
As I paused to catch my breath, I turned back to see the bus had already departed, and I couldn't help but shake my head. "What a world! There are all kinds of oddballs out there!"
After waiting for more than ten minutes, I boarded another bus and continued toward the courthouse. The next stretch of time went smoothly; I didn’t encounter anyone like that again.
By the time I arrived at the courthouse, it was around five in the afternoon, with less than half an hour until the verdict was announced.
"There are so many people!" I looked at the dense crowd outside the courthouse, feeling a bit surprised. I found a random spot to sit and quietly waited for the announcement.
Time passed quickly, and soon the court's decision was revealed: in the case of Wang Xinyu, due to insufficient evidence, Wang Xinyu was acquitted.
"How can this be!" Upon hearing the verdict, my brows furrowed, and I felt a wave of distress wash over me. Was it really that easy to let this scum go just because there was no evidence?
The crowd outside erupted into chaos; people were shouting and trying to rush into the courthouse. The police stationed outside struggled to maintain order, using loudspeakers to calm everyone down and prevent any conflict.
I shook my head and chose not to join in the uproar. Instead, I turned away from the courthouse entrance. In my heart, I thought: since the law has failed to punish Wang Xinyu, then I will take matters into my own hands. I will cleanse his filthy soul and make him confess at the police station.
