Ye Xiu stood frozen at the stairway, anxiously watching another ghost at the corner.
Upon closer inspection, this ghost was not as terrifying as the one behind him.
This ghost was just like Summer Mo, a spirit, intact and without any blood or wounds.
However, it was surrounded by a chilling aura. If it had been the old Ye Xiu, merely seeing someone like Summer Mo would have terrified him to the point of losing control.
Slowly, the ghost at the corner turned around.
Indeed, it was another ghost, but this one looked so familiar that Ye Xiu squinted to get a better look.
This ghost was none other than Jiang Baixuan's pet spirit!
Ye Xiu was overjoyed and grabbed the bewildered Summer Mo, rushing over to the ghost.
Sure enough, coming up the stairs was a figure that matched the ghost's presence.
With a pale face and a forced smile, the frail figure approached.
It was Jiang Baixuan.
At that moment, Jiang Baixuan did not look at Ye Xiu; instead, he gazed happily at Summer Mo.
"Goddess, please give me your autograph! I am your loyal fan!" Jiang Baixuan's expression was incredibly exaggerated. It was as if he were a fervent admirer—indeed, that seemed to be the case now.
"Uh? What?" Summer Mo looked at Jiang Baixuan in confusion, seemingly intimidated by his frightening appearance.
Jiang Baixuan was actually quite handsome, with well-defined features and a refined demeanor. However, his skin was pale, and for some reason, he appeared very frail, which could be quite startling to anyone who looked at him.
Ye Xiu, feeling anxious, exclaimed, "Hey, can we focus on the situation here? We're being chased by a ghost! Let's deal with that first before we chat!"
"Right," Jiang Baixuan replied. "I only came over because I heard a familiar scream that I thought belonged to my goddess. But..." He looked at Summer Mo with confusion, then glanced back at Ye Xiu.
Just then, the ghost that had been pursuing Ye Xiu closed in on them.
Jiang Baixuan frowned at the sight of the ghost. This one was not easy to handle!
Noticing Jiang Baixuan's expression, Ye Xiu questioned, "Are you sure you can handle this?"
Ignoring Ye Xiu's concern, Jiang Baixuan positioned himself protectively in front of both Ye Xiu and Summer Mo.
Then, with the ghost he had summoned following closely behind him, Jiang Baixuan charged forward.
In an instant, he leaped over the entire staircase and stood before the bloodied ghost.
He pulled out a Yellow Talisman from somewhere and pressed it against his palm. With a swift motion, he struck at the fierce ghost. Just as he was about to hit it, the talisman ignited in flames, and his hand, now glowing with sparks, plunged into the ghost's body.
Ye Xiu watched in horror and awe, envious of Jiang Baixuan's skill—it was truly remarkable.
To an observer, it seemed that the ferocious ghost had sustained serious injuries.
Yet Jiang Baixuan remained furrowed in thought.
The ghost had already reached the realm of the Spirit Ghost, and any further advancement would lead to becoming a true spirit. It was indeed not easy to deal with.
Jiang Baixuan knew clearly that even if he could defeat the Spirit Ghost before him, he would still be injured, perhaps severely.
At this moment, Jiang Baixuan couldn't afford to think about that anymore.
Suddenly, he let out a loud shout, and a wave of dark energy surged from within him.
The dark energy coalesced, manifesting into several ghosts.
These ghosts appeared quite ordinary.
Great Cover revealed about five of them.
Once the ghosts were released, Jiang Baixuan's complexion improved significantly; he was no longer as pale as before.
However, Jiang Baixuan was well aware that the demons he had summoned were merely ordinary beings and not on the same level as the Spirit Ghost.
He commanded the five demons to engage the Spirit Ghost.
Meanwhile, he pulled out a large handful of Yellow Talismans he had used earlier and carefully arranged them on the ground to form a formation.
As he set up the formation, two of his demons had already been struck down by the Spirit Ghost, leaving him with only three.
But he couldn't afford to be distracted; otherwise, all his efforts would be in vain, and he might even suffer serious injuries himself.
It seemed that Jiang Baixuan's formation was complete. He glanced at the battle ahead and noticed that only one demon remained, still following closely beside him.
After a moment of regret, Jiang Baixuan took out a Black Talisman and placed it in the center of the formation he had just set up.
He then activated the formation, causing all the Yellow Talismans to ignite instantly. The flames surged toward the black talisman, intertwining yellow and red light, revealing an incredible power.
Even Ye Xiu, who was watching from the side, could feel this immense force.
Jiang Baixuan picked up the black talisman and pressed it against the palm of his right hand.
With a thought, he summoned back his last remaining spirit.
As he watched his Demon break free from the Spirit Ghost's range, Jiang Baixuan shouted, "Exorcism Spell!"
In an instant, the black talisman on his right hand vanished—not by burning, but transforming into a stream of light that entered the palm of Jiang Baixuan's hand. Then, a tremendous energy burst forth.
That energy struck the Spirit Ghost, scattering its soul into oblivion.
One strike; that was all it took!
Ye Xiu stood dumbfounded at the side; this technique was indeed miraculous.
The battle was over, and Jiang Baixuan let out a heavy sigh of relief.
The losses from this fight were significant—he had lost four of his own spirits and used up a Yin Talisman.
Thinking about this made Jiang Baixuan's heart ache.
However, when he saw Summer Mo again, his expression changed instantly.
My Goddess!
Ye Xiu looked at him helplessly.
"Her name is Summer Mo. I only remembered her name; I don't know anything else."
"It seems that A Xia is quite lucky," Jiang Baixuan said, his tone becoming affectionate when mentioning Summer Mo.
Jiang Baixuan continued, "Generally, when people die, they become ghosts. Only a small portion remains in the human realm, and among these new ghosts, there are two types. One type directly becomes Evil Spirits. However, these Evil Spirits transform into varying degrees of powerful Demons due to the intensity of their resentment at the time of death. Unfortunately, these Evil Spirits cannot cultivate and have no consciousness. The other type retains the state they were in at the moment of death but may not remember anything. Of course, there are exceptions. This type of ghost can cultivate, just like humans practice Taoism. Sadly, there are no methods for Demons to cultivate in this world anymore..."
Jiang Baixuan's voice trailed off, filled with sorrow.
The family Jiang Baixuan belonged to was a lineage known for raising ghosts. Long ago, his family was quite powerful, but as time passed, more than half of their ghostly techniques were lost, and more importantly, the methods for cultivating ghosts had vanished. The glory of the past had diminished to a second-rate power.
One can imagine how magnificent his family must have been in its prime when even an outer disciple could raise hundreds or thousands of ghosts without any adverse effects on themselves.
Unlike now, where raising five ghosts made him appear neither fully human nor fully ghostly.
