The city under the night was a domain of Zombies. 0

As the power faded, the lights in the city were completely extinguished, and humanity finally lost its last glimmer of hope beneath the night sky. They could only shiver in their hiding places, praying not to be discovered by the Zombies. 0

After all, Zombies were different from humans; their perception of the outside world relied more on smell and sound, with visual information being the least significant. 0

In this shift of balance, those Zombies with a hint of night vision became the rulers of the city when night fell—though even during the day, human Survivors could only hide their hearts and avoid the Zombies. 0

In this moment of darkness, Chu Donglin hummed a cheerful tune as he walked through the shadowy streets. 0

He kicked aside a careless Zombie that had stumbled into him and entered a supermarket. 0

He had visited this supermarket before and found a Bathtub here; this time, he returned to look for a flashlight. 0

However, upon stepping inside, Chu Donglin's brow furrowed. 0

The supermarket in darkness had changed since his last visit. 0

Several Shelves had collapsed, scattering goods across the floor. 0

At the entrance, a pyramid made of laundry detergent had been knocked down by someone, with bags of detergent rolling everywhere. Several bags even rolled to Chu Donglin's feet. 0

Looking at the pitch-black interior of the supermarket, Chu Donglin quietly took down his Machete. 0

For him, whether Survivor or Zombie, neither welcomed him. Caught between the two, he could be considered the most unfortunate. 0

If it were a Survivor, as long as he didn't expose his identity as a Zombie, the other party shouldn't attack him. 0

But if it were a Mutated Zombie... 0

Chu Donglin tightened his grip on the Machete in his hand, regretting not bringing his gun along as well. 0

However, bringing the gun wouldn't have been much use either; the darkness of the environment greatly limited its effectiveness. Even Zombies could see clearly in the dark. 0

Moreover, with Chu Donglin's terrible marksmanship, even in good lighting, he found it difficult to hit a target—let alone at night. 0

Holding the untested Machete, Chu Donglin cautiously made his way toward the supermarket shrouded in darkness. 0

Perhaps the other party had already left—he reassured himself as he walked. 0

Just as he approached a row of Shelves hidden in the shadows, a figure suddenly sprang out from the darkness. 0

A strong smell of blood filled Chu Donglin's nostrils, confirming the identity of the shadow before him. 0

He swung the Machete fiercely, aiming directly at the indistinct figure lurking in the dark. 0

However, the opponent nimbly dodged his strike and tightened their grip on a slender weapon, lunging toward Chu Donglin. 0

Startled, Chu Donglin thought, Isn't this a Zombie? How can it use a weapon? But if it's human, then what explains that overwhelming stench of blood? 0

He deflected the slender weapon with his Machete, producing a loud clang as he staggered back two steps. 0

The Energy Crystal in his mind emitted signals of desire, clearly indicating that the shadow before him was indeed a Mutated Zombie. But the figure wielded a weapon? Could this fellow also possess the intelligence of a Zombie like him? 0

With a swift motion, he deflected the opponent's weapon once more. Chu Donglin furrowed his brow and took two steps back, calling out to the shadow, "Who are you?" 0

If it were an intelligent Zombie, it would naturally pause upon hearing him speak. 0

However, the shadow showed no sign of hesitation. The moment its weapon was knocked aside, it lunged at Chu Donglin again, completely ignoring his shout. 0

A strong scent of blood filled the air, accompanied by a low, guttural growl that reached Chu Donglin's ears. 0

A first-stage Zombie already possessed basic vocal abilities. If this creature truly shared his intelligence, it wouldn't be emitting such beastly roars. 0

Clearly, this was a pure and unadulterated First-Stage Mutated Zombie. 0

Though he didn't understand why it was using a weapon, it was evident that there was no rational thought within its mind—only instinct remained. 0

Having confirmed its identity, Chu Donglin decided to stop holding back and attacked with all his might. 0

While he was unsure why this Zombie wielded a weapon, Mutated Zombies were known for their bizarre traits; perhaps this fellow's mutation was particularly strange. 0

If he truly found it intriguing, he could always eliminate the Zombie and study it at his leisure. 0

However, this time Chu Donglin found himself at a disadvantage. In this Dark World, he realized for the first time the shortcomings of his abilities. 0

Unlike the Zombie that relied entirely on instinct, Chu Donglin retained his rationality and memory. He was smarter and understood how to control his instincts with reason. 0

In the usual skirmishes, he wielded weapons and set traps, easily gaining the upper hand against the Mutated Zombie. 0

However, in this dark environment, Chu Donglin, lacking experience in similar confrontations, found himself at a disadvantage when faced with attacks from the shadows. 0

Unable to see his opponent's strikes, he could only rely on his instincts to defend himself. 0

Yet when he left everything to instinct, his intelligence couldn't match the reflexes of the Zombies, who were driven purely by their primal urges. 0

Three minutes later, battered and bruised, Chu Donglin crashed into a Shelf, rolling away as he fled deeper into the supermarket. 0

"Damn it! Come on, you coward! Chase me if you dare!" 0

He gestured defiantly at the shadow behind him as he made his escape. 0

In truth, there was no need for Chu Donglin to provoke his pursuers; the Mutated Zombies would not let their prey slip away easily. 0

Two Zombies charged into the supermarket after him, toppling three Shelves and crushing countless bags of chips in their pursuit. Finally, Chu Donglin spotted a Shelf stocked with flashlights. 0

He grabbed one of the flashlights and flicked it on. 0

Click— 0

With a sharp sound, blinding white light instantly illuminated the aisle between the Shelves. 0

This was a powerful flashlight, much stronger than an ordinary one. With its beam, Chu Donglin finally got a good look at the Zombie's appearance. 0

He was a sturdy middle-aged man in his thirties, with eyes that were eerily blood-red, just like all the Mutated Zombies. 0

However, on the back of his right hand, there was a bone spike protruding over half a foot long. 0

Though it seemed unremarkable, Chu Donglin had personally experienced the power of this bone spike. When it struck, it had pierced through his chest, creating a large hole. 0

"So that's how it is..." 0

Chu Donglin suddenly realized that this Zombie's intelligence hadn't developed to the point of using weapons; rather, the weapon was an inherent part of its own body. 0

The evolution of Zombies had even led to the development of weapons like bone spikes, which was somewhat beyond his expectations. 0

If this evolution continued, would they eventually develop even more powerful weapons? Perhaps wings or something similar? 0

As for Chu Donglin himself, despite being a First-Stage Zombie, he possessed no special abilities. He speculated that either his evolutionary path differed from these fellows or that as an Ordinary Zombie, he simply couldn't evolve superpowers like the Mutated Zombies could. 0

Before Chu Donglin could ponder further, the Zombie roared and charged at him. Raising its right hand, the sharp bone spike aimed directly at Chu Donglin. 0

However, with the light illuminating the area, Chu Donglin felt no fear. He didn't take a step back; instead, he grabbed a fruit knife from a nearby shelf and let out a strange chuckle. 0

This stainless steel fruit knife was quite cheap, costing only two yuan. The blade was about a foot long and relatively sharp, perfectly complementing the flashlight he held. 0

Seeing the Zombie lunging at him, Chu Donglin tossed aside his machete and grabbed a handful of fruit knives, hurling over ten of them in quick succession. Although these fruit knives were inexpensive, their lethality was no joke. 0

In an instant, several flying fruit knives struck the Zombie, causing it to howl in anger and pain. 0

The sensation of countless flying knives embedded in its body was far from pleasant, and those knives could sever the nerve centers within, causing its movements to become sluggish. 0

Even a Zombie understood that if its agility was restricted, it would surely meet its end. 0

The Mutated Zombie roared in anger, not retreating even a step, but instead charging wildly at Chu Donglin. 0

Chu Donglin showed no mercy, throwing out more than ten knives with the precision of a dart thrower. 0

At such a close distance, despite the Zombie's large size, many of the knives missed their mark, but enough still struck true to cause significant damage. 0

As the Zombie closed in to within three meters of him, Chu Donglin ruthlessly picked up his Machete and charged forward. 0

This time, under the illumination of the lights, the Mutated Zombie, hindered by the knives sticking out all over its body, was easily taken down by Chu Donglin. 0

With a kick, he sent the creature flying, then smashed its skull with his Machete. 0

After extracting the crystal from the Mutated Zombie's brain, Chu Donglin thought for a moment before grabbing a kitchen knife and severing its right hand. 0

The body of this Mutated Zombie had begun to evolve; its flesh had become unusually tough. After finally peeling away the layer of muscle covering the bone, Chu Donglin discovered that a bony spike had grown from its humerus. 0

It seemed this spike had indeed evolved after it became a Zombie; such a bizarre bone protrusion was something Chu Donglin couldn't believe a Normal Human would possess. 0

Having confirmed the origin of the Zombie's bony spike, he discarded the right hand he had reduced to a pile of mush. 0

Originally, this sturdy and sharp bone spike would have made an excellent self-defense weapon. However, piercing wounds inflicted on Zombies didn't seem to affect them much. 0

As long as the mind remains intact, even if the body is riddled with holes like this Mutated Zombie, it only affects the body's agility and poses no real threat to the Zombie's life. 0

In such a situation, fighting the Mutated Zombies with a bone spur is far less effective than finding a sharp Machete. 0

Uh... speaking of Machete, there should be a Whetstone in this supermarket, right? 0

Chu Donglin glanced at the painfully dull Machete in his hand and felt he should sharpen it. 0

Otherwise, if he kept using it like a club to strike, he might as well find a Steel Pipe to use instead. 0

After wandering around the supermarket with a flashlight, Chu Donglin finally found the Whetstone he was looking for. 0

Looking out at the pitch-black sky, Chu Donglin thought for a moment and ultimately decided to go back to sleep. Sharpening the knife could wait until tomorrow, and he wasn't comfortable leaving Shishi alone at home late at night. 0
