In the living room, Shishi was lying on the sofa, taking a nap.
The midday sun streamed in through the window, leaving a mottled path of light in the air. Within that beam of light, dust particles danced gracefully.
The girl sleeping on the sofa was perfectly positioned in the center of this luminous path.
Her white princess dress spread out like a blooming flower, with two legs clad in white stockings peeking out from beneath the hem. It seemed she was dreaming of something, as her legs gently twitched, restless in her slumber.
Her fair face bore the unique charm of a girl, with slightly parted lips that let out soft breaths.
Bathed in sunlight, the sleeping girl resembled a lovely princess from a fairy tale, illuminated by stage lights, making the entire world fade away until only her figure remained.
The scene was breathtakingly beautiful.
Chu Donglin stood frozen at the bedroom door, almost believing he had seen an angel. He held his breath, afraid that even the sound of it would shatter this exquisite picture.
However, sensing his gaze, the girl on the sofa fluttered her eyelashes and eventually awakened from her slumber.
Rubbing her eyes sleepily, she looked at Chu Donglin with slightly tousled hair.
Tilting her head curiously at Chu Donglin's heavily bundled appearance, she asked innocently, "Daddy? Are you cold? Why are you wearing so much?"
Chu Donglin sighed and sat down across from her, dressed as if ready for winter.
"Well, I can't be exposed to light right now; it would be bad for me. If I get hit by sunlight, I'll feel terrible—like being burned by fire... Over time, I might even turn to ashes from the sun. That's why I'm wrapped up and wearing gloves."
"Eh? Did Daddy turn into a vampire?" The girl covered her mouth in surprise.
"Turn into what? There are no such things as vampires in this world! Those unscientific tales are just made up to trick kids. Do you really believe that?"
Chu Donglin playfully tapped her forehead and asked, "By the way, how long was I unconscious this time?"
"Two, um..." The girl counted on her fingers and finally nodded with certainty. "To be precise, it's two halves. Daddy, you slept for nearly three halves of the time."
The girl looked at Chu Donglin in amazement. "Daddy is really amazing! This is the first time Shishi has seen someone who can sleep so long all at once."
"............" Seriously? Is there really something admirable about this? What’s with that look of reverence on your face, Girl?
"Did Shishi behave well during that time?"
"Uh-huh, Shishi has been very obedient."
"Did you eat on time every day?"
"Uh-huh, I ate on time every day."
"Did you feed the chickens?"
"According to Daddy's instructions, I fed them every day. But yesterday, one chicken got stuck in the cage bars, and Shishi spent a lot of time rescuing it."
"Good job, Shishi," Chu Donglin said with a smile as he patted the girl's head. "Are you hungry now? What do you want to eat? Eating instant noodles isn't great, right? We should change things up a bit."
"Can we?"
"Of course! Just tell me what you want; don't be shy."
"Then Shishi wants to eat tomatoes and potatoes."
"Okay, then you wait for me a moment while I go pick some tomatoes from the rooftop."
With that, Chu Donglin stood up from the sofa.
The girl quickly jumped off the sofa and ran after him, grabbing Chu Donglin's hand from behind.
When Chu Donglin looked down at her in confusion, Girl lifted her head and flashed a cute smile at him. "Shishi wants to go with Daddy."
"Alright, let's go together," Chu Donglin shrugged, not refusing, and took the girl's hand as they climbed up to the rooftop.
As Chu Donglin pushed open the iron door to the platform, the first thing that caught his eye was the blue sky and... a strange black shadow.
It was a black eagle over two meters tall, its black feathers gleaming with a metallic sheen that suggested they were not ordinary feathers. Its sharp beak resembled a curved knife, glinting coldly in the sunlight.
In its Dark Red eyes flickered a cruel, bloodthirsty light. A pair of sharp claws gripped the edge of the platform's wall, their pointed tips deeply embedded in the concrete, showcasing its formidable lethality.
Chu Donglin's gaze instantly turned cold. He tightened his grip on the girl's hand and quietly stepped back two paces, retreating into the shadows of the hallway while holding her hand.
As Chu Donglin squinted at the mutated Zombie eagle, the Mutated Black Hawk was also watching him.
Its Dark Red eyes showed early signs of intelligence, no longer just reflecting the chaotic desire for slaughter and consumption typical of a Low-Level Zombie.
This was a Second Stage Zombie, and the only fortunate aspect was that its level of evolution was not high enough to instill an overwhelming sense of dread in Chu Donglin.
"Shishi, you go down first and wait for me inside."
Chu Donglin released the girl's hand and stepped out slowly.
The midday sun shone down, casting a shadow at his feet. A gentle breeze blew from somewhere, lightly stirring the ends of his scarf as it danced behind him.
The girl looked at Chu Donglin with concern, opened her mouth to say something, but ultimately obediently ran back downstairs.
"Go Daddy!"
The girl also saw the over two-meter-tall Mutated Black Hawk. She knew that staying behind would only cause trouble for Chu Donglin, so despite her worries, she obediently walked away.
On the edge of the stage, the Zombie Black Hawk coldly watched Chu Donglin, indifferent to the girl's departure.
For a High-Level Zombie, fresh flesh and blood were delicious, but even more important was the Evolution Crystal.
It slightly moved its body, slowly spreading its wings and leaning forward, preparing to dive.
The originally towering Zombie Black Hawk now appeared as a fantastical monster from a myth, its wingspan reaching up to five meters.
In front of it stood Chu Donglin, who was only as tall as an average person, appearing as fragile as a chick that could be easily crushed.
However, the Zombie Black Hawk knew that this figure before it was not just any Zombie to be casually killed. Hidden within that seemingly weak body was an unfathomable power.
It slowly shifted its body, fixating its gaze on Chu Donglin, searching for the best moment to strike.
Chu Donglin looked up at the Mutated Zombie Black Hawk with some surprise at its vigilance. If it were a First-Stage Zombie, it would have pounced and fought fiercely upon spotting a target. He didn't expect that a Second-Stage Zombie had already learned to observe its enemy... Heh heh...
Standing still, Chu Donglin wore a strange smile on his face.
What he feared was unpredictability; since it understood fear and caution, things would be easier.
With his hands hanging by his sides, Chu Donglin abandoned any thoughts of attacking. He simply gazed up at the Mutated Black Hawk, his Mental Power gradually spreading outwards, the smile on his face growing more pronounced.
The Mutated Black Hawk shifted uneasily, observing Chu Donglin's strange smile. Within its limited intelligence arose a sense of trepidation.
Suddenly, an Energy Crystal in its head pulsed violently. The massive black hawk let out a fierce screech and leaped into the air, its enormous body gliding several meters sideways before soaring into the sky with a gust of wind.
Meanwhile, on the ground, six or seven pieces of rebar pierced through the concrete, intertwining in a bizarre formation under the sunlight.
On the stage, Chu Donglin shook his head in disappointment and stepped toward the edge. Around him, scattered bricks flew up, stones from the Vegetable Garden rose into the air, and a broken wooden chair in the corner lifted off the ground.
A chaotic array of objects now hovered around Chu Donglin, ready to launch an attack at any moment.
The fact that his long-prepared ambush had been evaded left Chu Donglin feeling somewhat disheartened.
The Second-Stage Zombie's keen sense of danger was both a blessing and a curse. While it was great to possess such powerful instincts, it became frustrating if the enemy shared a similar sense of danger.
He looked up at the enormous Zombie Black Hawk before him. As it flapped its wings to fly, it stirred up a whirlwind on stage, causing Chu Donglin's hair and scarf to whip wildly in the wind.
"How about we discuss something?"
With a light tap of his fingers, countless loose stones around Chu Donglin suddenly accelerated, slicing through the air toward the Zombie Black Hawk.
In just a blink, the ten-meter distance was closed. A sinister smile spread across Chu Donglin's face. "Can you send your head my way?"
The Zombie Black Hawk let out an angry, piercing shriek as its wings stirred up another gust of wind.
All the debris hurtling toward it was knocked away by its powerful wings. When those stones collided with its glossy black feathers, they produced a sound akin to metal clashing.
Though it couldn't understand Chu Donglin's words, it received the message of provocation loud and clear. With an enraged scream, its massive body dove down, its wings spanning over five meters and blocking out the sky as its sharp claws lunged straight for Chu Donglin.
The wind howled and dust swirled.
In the midst of the fierce wind created by the giant wings, Chu Donglin sidestepped just in time to avoid the claw strike and suddenly reached out to grab the tail feathers of the Zombie Black Hawk.
As he grasped the black feathers, a cold and sharp sensation surged through him; it felt as though he were gripping a blade. His hands were cut by the feathers, blood streaming down.
Despite the agonizing pain akin to holding onto a knife's edge, Chu Donglin roared fiercely and exerted all his strength, pulling down on the Mutated Black Hawk's ascending body. At that moment, the concrete beneath him cracked open violently, and a black rebar shot up from below, aiming directly at the head of the black hawk.
"Drink up!"
In the roar of Chu Donglin's Madness, all his strength erupted in an instant, directly grabbing hold of the Black Hawk's body as it soared through the air. At that moment, the Rebar he had propelled with all his might plunged fiercely into the lower abdomen of the Zombie Black Hawk.
Pfft—
Black blood sprayed out.
The Zombie Black Hawk let out a painful shriek, its wings flapping with renewed power as it broke free from Chu Donglin's grasp and flew into the sky, causing the second Rebar aimed at the air to miss its target.
Watching the Mutated Black Hawk ascend with half of the Rebar embedded in its body, Chu Donglin smiled.
If it were a humanoid Zombie, it could easily pull the Rebar out of its body at this moment. However, this Zombie Black Hawk had no hands, and its only claw couldn't reach the Rebar, so it could only fly away with the Rebar half-buried in its body.
Black blood rained down from above as the Zombie Black Hawk howled in pain and anger, its Blood-red Eyes fixed on Chu Donglin, filled with rage and hatred.
But for now, it dared not descend.
The consequences of its first attack had instilled a sense of fear towards Chu Donglin. Yet, the Bloodthirsty nature of the Zombie compelled it not to retreat; it circled above Chu Donglin, its massive wings stirring up a whirlwind that wreaked havoc on the stage below.
Seeing his Vegetable Garden threatened by the raging winds, Chu Donglin paused for a moment before charging off the edge of the stage, aiming to shift the battlefield elsewhere.
He certainly didn't want all his hard-earned vegetables to be destroyed by the tempest.
