"Later?"
In response to Ban Qingya's inquiry, Liu Xiner shook her head bitterly and said, "Later, he disappeared. He vanished from everyone's sight, and no one could find him again."
"Aren't you from Wangcheng? Didn't you go back to Wangcheng to look for him?"
"I did, but I couldn't find him."
Liu Xiner murmured, "His parents told me that he hasn't returned to Wangcheng in a long time; he just occasionally makes a phone call home. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but clearly, he's hiding from all of us. He doesn't want to see my father, my sister... or me."
"Maybe he just left for a while to calm down. Once he gets through this shadow, he'll definitely come back to find you."
Ban Qingya gently embraced Liu Xiner, comforting her softly. "Hasn't he always cared about you? I'm sure he will return to you."
Liu Xiner shook her head sadly and said, "It's impossible..."
She pointed at the silent city before them, her gaze dim. "Now that the apocalypse has arrived, the world is in chaos. In this situation, humanity is on the brink of collapse. My brother-in-law... it's already impossible for us to meet again."
Ban Qingya tightened her hold on the girl in her arms, feeling a sense of silence.
The apocalypse had descended for over a month now, with humanity's survival rate dwindling to almost nothing, and the remaining survivors were continuously dying.
In this chaotic and terrifying world, even if the man Liu Xiner spoke of managed to survive the initial catastrophe, the collapse of order meant that humanity could only hide and struggle to survive.
In such an environment, even two people living in the same district might never see each other again until death.
The probability of encountering an old acquaintance in this apocalypse was slimmer than winning a lottery.
"Tell me his name."
Ban Qingya suddenly said, "I'll have everyone keep an eye out for him. Occasionally, rescue teams might come across other survivor camps. I'll make sure everyone spreads the word and asks around. If there's any news about him, I'll let you know."
Liu Xiner lifted her head and looked at Ban Qingya's profile, momentarily stunned and somewhat moved. "Sister Qingya..."
"Alright, don't get too emotional just yet. First, tell me the man's name," Ban Qingya smiled and said. "You've praised him to the skies, making me quite curious about him... What's his name?"
"Uh... Chu Donglin," Liu Xiner replied. "Chu from the state of Chu, Dong from the east, Lin from descending—Chu Donglin."
"Mm, Chu Donglin, got it," Ban Qingya said with a smile. "I'll let everyone know his name so they can help find out more about him... Of course, you can rest assured that I'll keep everything about him a secret."
With a mischievous grin, Ban Qingya added playfully, "I won't tell anyone that our lovely and charming Liu Xiner has actually fallen for her own brother-in-law... Hehe... As the saying goes, a sister-in-law is indeed related to her brother-in-law in that way."
Liu Xiner's face instantly turned as red as an apple. "Sister Qingya, you... you're teasing me."
"Haha... The girl is shy! Since you know how to be shy, why did you tell me everything?"
"I... I was just afraid you'd misunderstand!"
"Misunderstand? Misunderstand what?" Ban Qingya raised her eyebrows playfully and said with a grin, "Misunderstand that you like your brother-in-law? Uh... Well, technically he isn't your brother-in-law yet since you're not married. There's no law against liking a guy who has a girlfriend."
"Ahhh... Sister Qingya, you..."
The girl covered her face, which was as red as an apple, shaking her head vigorously. "You're so annoying!"
Ban Qingya burst into laughter beside her.
However, this playful banter had lightened the atmosphere on stage considerably.
"Xing'er, I'm actually still a bit curious about you..."
A loud crash interrupted Ban Qingya's words.
As the slight tremor of the floor beneath them settled, the two girls froze for a moment before rushing to the edge of the platform, looking toward the source of the noise.
"What happened? Was that an earthquake?" Liu Xiner asked in surprise, and soon they caught sight of the culprit behind it all.
Boom—
Boom—
Boom—
With rhythmic booming sounds, the ground continued to shake.
At the end of the street in the distance, a giant monster over three meters tall was roaring and charging toward them.
Its movement was peculiar; it wasn't running but rather bouncing and leaping continuously.
Each time it roared and jumped, it could cover a distance of over a hundred meters, crashing heavily onto the ground more than a hundred meters away. Its terrifying size symbolized immense weight, and with every landing, it left a massive crater on the concrete street, countless web-like cracks spreading outward as debris flew everywhere.
The overwhelming force it exuded was akin to a tyrannical king patrolling its territory, with no zombie daring to obstruct its path.
From their vantage point at the edge of the platform, Ban Qingya watched as a car happened to be right where the monster landed. The moment its colossal body descended, it crushed the metal vehicle into pieces.
As the fuel tank exploded, terrifying flames erupted like a mushroom cloud, engulfing the car completely.
However, what was even more frightening was that those searing flames licked at the Tyrant's body without leaving even a trace on its surface. Its skinless crimson exterior was as impenetrable as the strongest steel, unaffected by fire or water.
Running down the street, the mindless Low-Level Zombies wandered aimlessly, displaying a sense of panic as they flailed about like headless flies.
Carrying the sounds of explosions and sparks, along with the terrifying rumble of blasts, a massive Tyrant roared angrily from the end of the street, drawing closer to the building.
"Look! There's a person!" Liu Xiner exclaimed in surprise, causing Ban Qingya to furrow her brow.
In truth, Ban Qingya had already spotted the human being chased by the Tyrant without Liu Xiner's reminder.
Riding an ordinary motorcycle, this individual sped through the obstacle-laden city at over seventy miles per hour, somehow avoiding collisions with roadside barriers—a feat that was almost unbelievable.
Even the most professional race car drivers would hesitate to drive at such speeds on these apocalyptic streets filled with obstacles. At this velocity, even the slightest bump from a pebble could send the motorcycle tumbling, resulting in a catastrophic accident.
Yet, the person before them moved like a Monster Knight from legends, navigating through the city at this terrifying speed while perfectly dodging all obstacles.
Whether it was abandoned cars parked on the street, protruding branches, collapsed guardrails, or heavy bags discarded by fleeing pedestrians… even the wandering Zombies were effortlessly avoided by him.
In just half a minute, Ban Qingya witnessed him bypass ten obstacles. Just as a tragic crash seemed imminent, the man on the motorcycle always found an unexpected route to evade danger and continued speeding forward.
His movements resembled a pre-written program—thrilling yet seemingly predetermined from the moment he set off. However, Ban Qingya understood that reality was not like a computer simulation.
What this man was accomplishing required not only exceptional riding skills but also extraordinary mental fortitude and reflexes.
At high speeds, even a delay of one-tenth of a second could lead to disaster.
Clearly, this man had been riding like this for quite some time; the Horrific Monster pursuing him was proof enough. Maintaining such intense focus without breaking down was nothing short of chilling—his psychological resilience and riding skills reached an astonishing level.
"That fellow..."
As the distance between them rapidly closed, a motorcycle roared past a car below, and Ban Qingya suddenly recognized the familiar figure.
"It's him!"
The exclamation escaped Ban Qingya's lips involuntarily.
The man, who was being relentlessly pursued by the terrifying Tyrant monster, dancing on the edge of death, was the same mysterious figure she had seen once at a gas station. His terrifying combat prowess had left a deep impression on her.
She never expected that after more than half a month apart, she would encounter him again, this time being chased by such a powerful monster.
The creature before her was a Zombie, right? And judging by its terrifying presence, it was likely stronger than any Third-Stage Zombie she had ever seen... Was it a Fourth-Stage Zombie?
Witnessing the might and power of this Tyrant firsthand, Ban Qingya shook her head in disbelief.
Why was it that every time she encountered this fellow, he seemed to be courting death? Last time he had been engaged in close combat with a powerful First-Stage Zombie, and now he was being hunted by a Fourth-Stage Zombie. She couldn't fathom what he had done to provoke such hatred from this Fourth Tier monster, which had pursued him relentlessly in a state of Madness.
Ban Qingya felt that if she continued to run into this fellow, her worldview might need to be completely reshaped.
In this apocalyptic world, Normal Humans avoided High-Level Zombies at all costs. Yet this mysterious man always seemed to attract powerful Zombies, each encounter more terrifying than the last.
Watching the man disappear at high speed on his motorcycle down the street, Ban Qingya couldn't help but find it amusing—when she next encountered this fellow, would he be chased by an even more fearsome Zombie?
