However, the slaughtering knife ultimately did not fall. 0

After stripping away all of King the Zombie's resistance, Chu Donglin seized the paralyzed Zombie and implanted a seed of Mental Power into its mind. 0

This Zombie possessed a powerful control ability over other Zombies, which was different from Chu Donglin's control. This Zombie's control over Low-Level Zombies was more complex and on a larger scale. 0

Even though Chu Donglin was at the Third Stage, his limit for controlling Zombies was only a few thousand. 0

Moreover, this control relied more on the intimidation of High-Level Zombies over Low-Level Zombies, compelling those Low-Level Zombies to obey rather than achieving absolute control. 0

However, during his pursuit earlier, Chu Donglin discovered that this Zombie had an exceptionally strong ability to control other Zombies. 0

The Zombies controlled by King even dared to attack Chu Donglin, a Third-Stage Zombie, which was something ordinary Zombies could not do. 0

If he could subdue this Zombie, Chu Donglin's combat power would greatly increase in the future. 0

At least when facing humans, the large-scale manipulation of a Zombie tide would significantly enhance his threat level. 0

Such a rare ability in this Zombie could not be casually ignored; how could Chu Donglin possibly kill it for just an Evolution Crystal? 0

Using his Third-Stage Mental Power, Chu Donglin forcibly planted a Mental Seed in the Zombie's brain. 0

As the Mental Seed was planted, the Zombie struggled and roared desperately, instinctively resisting this enslavement. 0

Yet its resistance had already been completely stripped away by Chu Donglin. Even though it thrashed and screamed, it could do nothing. Soon, Chu Donglin's powerful Mental Power successfully embedded the seed into its brain. 0

Buzz— 0

In that moment, the Zombie's body trembled, emitting a strange muffled sound. 0

Then, Chu Donglin released it and tossed a few first-tier Evolution Crystals to the ground. 0

However, the first action of the Zombie after being freed by Chu Donglin was not to pick up the Evolution Crystals, but to struggle and crawl toward the fallen Urn, cradling it in its arms with utmost care. 0

The photo on the Urn showed a girl smiling gently, her two sweet dimples making her look adorable and well-behaved. 0

Chu Donglin glanced at it. "Is this girl your friend?" 0

The Zombie looked up at him in confusion, its eyes no longer reflecting hatred. 0

It tilted its head in thought and let out a hoarse roar. 0

"Hiss... roar... howl..." 0

Clearly, although it had gained some intelligence, this Zombie still could not speak. 0

After all, even Snow had only learned to talk after staying by Chu Donglin's side for quite some time. 0

Once it picked up the Urn and carefully checked that it was undamaged, the Zombie King bent down to retrieve the few Evolution Crystals that Chu Donglin had thrown to it. 0

After consuming these Evolution Crystals and absorbing their energy, the wounds on the Zombie's body visibly began to heal. 0

Even as Chu Donglin picked up the king's Severed Arm and reattached it to the shoulder wound, delicate flesh buds quickly emerged from the injury, binding the Severed Arm back together. 0

Soon, the Zombie's body began to recover, even its left arm, which had been severed by Chu Donglin, returned to its shoulder. 0

However, this reattached arm would still require some time to fully heal; any sudden movements could cause it to break off again. 0

Following Snow White Wolf, a third Zombie joined Chu Donglin's team. 0

This was a control-type Zombie; in terms of combat ability alone, it might not even be able to defeat Shishi. 0

Yet its powerful Zombie control ability made it an unparalleled command tool. 0

As long as the king was by his side, Chu Donglin effectively possessed a vast Zombie Legion, capable of controlling thousands of Zombies to fight for him at any moment. 0

Amidst the howling cold wind, the temperature in Wocheng began to drop. 0

It was now January 7, 2005, marking the sixth day since Chu Donglin Awakened. 0

The biting cold wind ravaged the streets, and the warm sunshine from days prior felt like a distant memory from another world. 0

It hadn't snowed yet, but as the frigid air moved southward, Wocheng's temperature had already begun to become uncomfortable for humans. 0

Chu Donglin's heart grew increasingly urgent. 0

The old home in Wangcheng must have become unbearably cold by now. 0

In this apocalyptic world, how would his parents survive this harsh winter? 0

“Dad, don’t worry. We’ll be back soon,” Shishi gently squeezed Chu Donglin’s hand, softly comforting him as he wore a solemn expression. 0

Beside them, apart from the snow and White Wolf, several other Zombies trailed behind. 0

Wang Jing, looking like a gaunt youth, quietly followed them, silently cradling an Urn in his arms. It seemed as if nothing in this world could spark his interest anymore; he simply walked along with Chu Donglin. 0

A massive Zombie, towering over two meters like a giant, followed closely behind. Its muscular body was enormous and powerful, resembling a Tyrant. It occasionally looked around, seemingly fascinated by everything in its surroundings, forming a stark contrast to the emaciated Wang. 0

In addition to these two Zombies, there were several other oddly shaped Zombies trailing behind them, numbering over a dozen—all Second Stage Zombies. 0

These Zombies were subordinates that Chu Donglin had subdued during this time. Each Zombie possessed its own unique abilities and characteristics, kept close for his use. 0

After all, apart from him, there were hardly any Third-Stage Zombies visible in Wocheng; evolving further would take a long time. 0

Moreover, the power of Third-Stage Zombies was already sufficient for Chu Donglin's self-defense. With this loyal group of Zombie subordinates by his side, he would not fear any individual or force in this apocalypse. 0

On Chu Donglin's back was a pack filled with Evolution Crystals from Second-Stage Zombies. 0

In less than a week, relying on the immense power of the Third-Stage Zombie, Chu Donglin had slain over two hundred Second-Stage Zombies. He had cleared at least a quarter of the active Second-Stage Zombies in the entire city center. 0

As for the more than ten Zombies following Chu Donglin, they were all tightly wrapped up to avoid exposure to sunlight. 0

The sight of these oddly shaped Zombies draped in thick cloth was strangely amusing. 0

This time, Chu Donglin's destination was a bank ahead. Previously, he had inadvertently found a key to the bank counter from a Zombie dressed in employee attire, and after much contemplation, he decided this would be the evolution base he chose for Xue and the others. 0

The glass of the bank counter was sturdy and nearly indestructible; even with a hammer, it would be difficult for Chu Donglin, as a Third-Stage Zombie, to break it easily. Moreover, with a group of Second-Stage Zombies outside providing protection, he couldn't think of anyone in Wocheng who could threaten Xue and Shishi behind the counter. 0

Opening the iron door on the side of the bank counter, Chu Donglin led Xue and Shishi to the back of the counter. 0

Here, on the slightly messy floor, some bills were scattered about; however, these bills had long lost their value in this post-apocalyptic world, and no one would even glance at them. 0

After clearing a space behind the counter, Chu Donglin issued a command to the waiting Zombies outside. 0

"Bring me the beds." 0

Two Second-Stage Zombies obediently carried a bed each into the area behind the counter. 0

After ordering them to place the beds side by side in the cleared space, Chu Donglin sent them back outside. 0

Thus, only Chu Donglin, Xue, and Shishi remained behind the glass of the bank counter. 0

"Dad, are we starting now?" 0

Shishi glanced at Chu Donglin, feeling a bit reluctant. "I don't want to part with you..." 0

Chu Donglin smiled and ruffled the girl's hair. 0

"The process of evolution is just like taking a nap. You close your eyes and sleep, and when you wake up, you'll see me." 0

He then looked over at Xue, only to find that the girl had calmly walked over to one of the beds and lay down obediently. 0

Shrugging, Chu Donglin didn't say much. He picked Shishi up and set her down on the bed, then placed the bag filled with Evolution Crystals between Xue and Shishi. 0

"Alright, you can start now. Focus on your evolution; I'll be outside protecting you both with everyone else." 0

Chu Donglin took a step back, signaling for them to begin. 0

Shishi and Xue nodded, each reaching for a handful of Evolution Crystals before swallowing them one after another. 0

The Evolution Crystals were soft like gummy candy, not hard at all. Once consumed, they transformed into powerful energy that enhanced the strength of Zombies. 0

Before the two had even consumed one-tenth of the crystals in the bag, Xue's body suddenly began to tremble. 0

Then, just like when Chu Donglin evolved, the girl’s body writhed in pain. Her Blood-red Eyes flickered with a bloodthirsty and chaotic light, and low growls escaped her throat. 0

Chu Donglin quickly stepped forward to embrace her, using the immense power of a Third-Stage Zombie to suppress her struggles. 0

It was unclear whether it was due to the differences between Mutated Zombies and Ordinary Zombies, but Xue's agony lasted only a few seconds before it ended, contrasting sharply with Chu Donglin's prolonged suffering before he fell unconscious. 0

Looking at the girl quietly sleeping in his arms, Chu Donglin felt a mix of surprise and relief. 0

Although he wasn't sure if it was due to individual differences or because she was different from the Snow Zombie, it still made him happy that the girl could suffer less. 0

He then glanced at Shishi beside him and was taken aback. 0

The girl had fallen into a deep sleep without making a sound after consuming enough Evolution Crystals, showing no signs of pain whatsoever. 0

Seeing the peaceful sleeping faces of the two, Chu Donglin couldn't help but smile wryly. 0

"Why is it that you both evolve so easily while I have to endure pain? Is being beautiful a privilege?" 0

He stood up, adjusted their sleeping positions, and covered them with blankets. After checking that there were no abnormalities behind the bank counter, he turned and walked out the door. 0

He locked the two sleeping girls and the remaining Evolution Crystals behind the counter, staying in the bank's hall with more than ten Second-Stage Zombies outside, quietly waiting for the two to awaken. (To be continued...) 0
