Dark Light shone upon the Barren Land, resembling a completely abandoned world.
On the deserted highway, scattered remnants of Dodo and Abandoned Vehicles lay in disarray.
Here, the Zombies rarely wandered through the city; the desolate road was filled with countless stranded and forsaken cars. The vast majority of Zombies were trapped inside closed compartments, unable to escape.
Occasionally, the sound of Zombies banging against car bodies echoed through the night, the only noise in this dark expanse.
On either side of the barren road stood withered trees; during the harsh winter, it was nearly impossible to find any trace of green here.
A black crow cawed hoarsely, flapping its wings as it landed on a highway sign, its Blood-red Eyes coldly observing the chaotic scene below.
There, a Zombie inside a vehicle roared in anger, repeatedly slamming against the car door, only able to shake the vehicle without breaking free.
The Zombie's eyes were also Dark Red.
Suddenly, the crow swooped down, its sharp claws striking heavily against the car's Windshield.
Crack—
With a crisp sound, a fine crack appeared on the Windshield.
Inside, the Mutated Zombie paused for a moment, sensing the hoarse cries of the crow outside.
It caught a whiff of the enticing scent emanating from its foe.
"Roar!"
A beast-like growl erupted from its throat, and as if provoked, it slammed against the car door with increasing force.
It wanted to kill the crow outside and devour it... This was driven by the Zombie's instinctual thirst for evolution, to consume other Mutated Zombies and grow stronger.
Just as the crow desperately battered against the car's Windshield, trying to attack the Mutated Zombie inside, the Mutated Zombie roared and continued to pound against the car door in an attempt to break free. Suddenly, a piercing grinding noise echoed from afar.
The sound was like a massive metal object being forcefully pushed and scraping against the ground.
The crow outside paused for a moment, then took flight, its Blood-red Eyes widening as it looked toward the source of the loud noise.
A gigantic Heavy Truck was approaching from the other end of the highway, its headlights blindingly bright, illuminating the dark night and casting harsh light on the road sign beneath the crow.
The front of the truck was welded with a massive blade resembling a Bulldozer. As the truck moved forward, it pushed aside the abandoned cars scattered across the road, clearing a path wide enough for vehicles to pass through.
Amidst the rumbling of the Engine, two black tanks appeared first in the crow's line of sight. The metallic bodies glimmered faintly in the darkness, and their enormous gun barrels loomed ominously.
Following closely behind the tanks was a row of Armored Personnel Carriers filled with soldiers.
When the crow caught a whiff of fresh human scent wafting through the air, a sharp Gunshot rang out, and the crow perched atop the road sign was instantly blown apart into countless pieces of flesh.
Cheers erupted from within the Armored Personnel Carriers.
"Colonel, great shooting!"
"Truly worthy of the Colonel!"
"The Colonel is amazing!"
"Wow! Colonel, I love you!"
Amidst the soldiers' cheers, Shu Yuyao smiled lightly, giving a thumbs-up to the group of cheering warriors before pulling back into the compartment with her gun.
Inside the command vehicle, Ban Guozhi glanced at her and shook his head.
"You’re showing off your marksmanship again."
Shu Yuyao set her gun down and returned to her seat. "Just a little restless. I took the chance to take out a Mutated Zombie; after all, we haven't fought in a while."
"You're just a girl, yet your fighting spirit surpasses even me, an old soldier who's been in the army my whole life. It seems this disaster has forged many remarkable young people."
As Ban Guozhi reflected on this, Shu Yuyao laughed, her smile carrying a deeper meaning.
"General Ban, what about General Liu? She was promoted to General at such a young age; that achievement is truly unattainable. Anyone would feel inferior upon seeing it."
Ban Guozhi shook his head. "General Liu is the backbone of the base. Everyone here has been able to hold on for so long amidst those monsters thanks to her efforts; she deserves all of it."
Shu Yuyao shrugged, "I don't think I'm living up to General Liu's reputation either. General Ban, please don't be angry; I actually hold General Liu in great respect."
After a pause, she smiled and changed the subject.
"By the way, General Ban, how far are we from Wocheng now? It's been quite a while since we left Jiang Hai; we should be getting close, right?"
Ban Guozhi glanced at the aide beside him, who quickly stood up and reported.
"Report to the General and Colonel, we have now entered the territory of Wocheng. If there are no unexpected delays, we should arrive in Wocheng by tomorrow morning... Would you like to take a break for everyone, or should we push on directly to Wocheng?"
Ban Guozhi thought for a moment and made a decision.
"Let's push straight to Wocheng. We'll rest once we arrive."
"Understood!"

The cold moonlight illuminated the wide riverbank, and the icy river wind tousled the woman's hair.
Standing quietly under the moonlight, the woman was enchanting and alluring; her fitted qipao perfectly accentuated her tall curves, captivating all who beheld her.
In her hands, she gently played with two fans, a happy smile appearing as she gazed at the full moon above.
"Isn't it about time, Mr. Chu? This grand gift I’m giving you, you must enjoy it~"
At her feet lay a ground strewn with corpses.
The twisted bodies of the Deep Divers sprawled on the grass by the riverbank, their once fierce and evil expressions now replaced by a bizarre aura of darkness in death.
Their bulging, bloodshot eyes seemed ready to burst at any moment, while countless foul green streams of blood oozed from their wounds, winding across the grass and slowly soaking into the earth beneath.
Amidst the contorted bodies, a woman named Acha giggled as she looked toward the opposite bank of the river.
There, within the camp belonging to Ban Qingya, a figure named Pan Dayou suddenly opened his blood-red eyes and slowly sat up in the darkness.
His eyes were crimson and filled with a strange, morbid light, devoid of any rationality, resembling a twisted monster released from its cage.
In the dark, he lowered his head to gaze at his hands, suddenly breaking into an eerie smile.
"Death... hehehe... everyone is going to die... hehehe... hahahahaha... hahahahaha..." (To be continued...)
