The so-called Cthulhu is one of the Great Old Ones in legend, belonging to the faction symbolizing water among the four elements: Fire, Wind, Earth, and Water. It is the arch-nemesis of Hastur, the entity representing wind.
Due to being sealed by a powerful opposing force known as the Old Gods, it is said that Cthulhu sleeps in the sunken city of R'lyeh in the South Pacific. However, influenced by cosmic phases or other external factors, the seal may sometimes weaken, allowing it to manifest on the surface.
Nevertheless, since the seal is not completely broken, Cthulhu cannot stray far from Lalaye. When celestial alignments change and the sealing power restores, it returns to Lalaye to continue its slumber.
In earthly legends, Cthulhu is depicted as an Evil God that flew from another world to Earth. It has a colossal form resembling an octopus with bat-like wings atop its head. Its limbs are covered in scales like those of a human but are constantly shifting in proportion and detail.
Typically, Cthulhu lies sealed and asleep in the depths of the Pacific within the city of Lalaye, occasionally reaching out through telepathy to connect with distant humans.
Those who come into contact with Cthulhu often experience heightened sensitivity; many have gone mad due to this mental connection. However, some artists have gained fame from the inspiration derived from this madness.
The combination of demons and art is not uncommon; however, it is misleading to suggest that one contracts with demons for artistic pursuits only to invite madness. A new interpretation posits that art is merely a byproduct of the madness naturally expressed by demons.
No works related to the Cthulhu mythos have provided a concrete description of Cthulhu's divine powers. Most often, Cthulhu remains sealed but can sometimes communicate with the outside world through telepathy.
Cthulhu can induce nightmares or compel thoughts through these connections, exerting strong suggestions and influences.
At times, Cthulhu imparts spells or knowledge beyond human comprehension through mental transmission. However, due to its vastly different mental plane from humanity, those who interact with it may become dazed or insane.
Like all other Evil Gods in legend, Cthulhu harbors an irrational malice toward humanity.
However, if Chu Donglin's information is accurate, this Evil God named Cthulhu has already been slain by Acha upon arriving on Earth.
Its underwater city of Lalaye has now become a ruin, and its body has been scattered by Acha across the world to create a bizarre force field that suppresses Evil God powers.
It is this force field that renders Acha—despite possessing Evil God strength—seemingly weak and strips Hastur and Cthulhu of their immense power needed to traverse the cosmos upon their subsequent arrival.
Although Cthulhu was killed by Acha and its underwater city of Lalaye destroyed, its followers managed to escape from Acha's grasp.
These followers tracked Acha's movements onto land, seeking revenge for their deity.
After the death of Acha, Chu Donglin, who inherited the name Nyarlathotep, became the primary target of revenge for them.
However, this group of monsters was unaware of the existence of the Evil God Mordigian, and they did not know that Chu Donglin had already consumed the fruit condensed from Mordigian's life force, making him as powerful as a level-one Evil God.
They still believed that this inheritor of the name Nyarlathotep was merely a Third-Stage Zombie.
Thus, the two most powerful monsters among the Deep Divers, aside from Cthulhu, did not come personally. Instead, they sent humanoid weapons transformed by the curse of Evil God to deal with Chu Donglin.
That humanoid weapon was a girl named Yumo Sha.
However, Dagon and Hydra did not anticipate that Chu Donglin and Yumo Sha were old acquaintances. The girl would rather endure the pain of being torn apart and killed by the curse of Evil God than lift a hand against Chu Donglin.
Naturally, they had no idea that their power was no longer capable of harming Chu Donglin.
Although a portion of the fruit condensed from Mordigian's life force was given to Xue, Chu Donglin had already inherited the essence of Nyarlathotep, naturally becoming a true Evil God.
Now, Chu Donglin could almost be considered the strongest man on land.
On this Earth, aside from the two unknown-level Evil Gods in Jiang Hai, no other Deep Divers could harm Chu Donglin in any way.
So when the dispatched Deep Divers returned in panic, Dagon and Hydra were shocked—these two Deep Divers had taken over two human bodies temporarily due to their massive size, which made it inconvenient for them to move in the human world.
These two humans were the leader couple of Ming Snake Base, where Yumo Sha resided.
As Dagon and Hydra used human bodies temporarily, they looked at their subordinates who had returned in disarray with faces full of astonishment.
"You failed?"
With only Third-Stage Zombie strength, even Fourth-Tier Zombies would not be able to escape unscathed from Yumo Sha's attacks.
Their plan this time was supposed to be foolproof; however, the miserable state of these Deep Divers left them speechless and confused about what had actually happened.
"Is that Zombie really that strong? But how is that possible? Nyarlathotep has long lost her physical form, and under the influence of the Eldritch Field, she has already lost her most powerful abilities. All she can pass down now is the essence of being Nyarlathotep, and her power cannot be transferred to others... How could that Zombie have repelled you? What about the Fish of Faith?"
The Fish of Faith is a powerful humanoid weapon created using the curse of Cthulhu's Evil God.
The cursed girl's power among this group of Deep Divers is second only to their two elders who have lived for tens of thousands of years, making her an existence that ordinary Zombies must avoid at all costs.
However, not only had many of the returning Deep Divers scattered and suffered heavy losses, but even the humanoid weapon they had painstakingly created was nowhere to be found. A sense of foreboding began to creep in.
"How strong is that newly emerged Nyarlathotep? Where is he now? Didn't the Fish of Faith come with you?"
Anger filled Dagon's face.
Having controlled this human body for a long time, he had grown accustomed to expressing anger through human language and expressions.
He forcefully lifted a dirt-covered Deep Diver, roaring at the ugly face of the Frogman, "Where has the Fish of Faith gone?"
The Fish of Faith, or the human girl Yumo Sha, was a rare find among humans, perfectly capable of accepting the power of the Evil God's curse.
Such materials and weapons are not something to be discarded lightly. (To be continued...)
