On the night of January 1, 2006, the colorful white snow continued to blanket the mountains of Qianzhou.
In the vast wilderness, the white snow emitted a faint glow under the night sky.
This was a rare plain among the mountains, where the second largest human Survivor Base in Qianzhou was established.
Ming Snake Base.
Unlike the almost semi-militarized management of Wangcheng Base, Ming Snake Base leaned more towards a chaotic disorder that made it hard to like.
The base operated under a survival-of-the-fittest rule. While this made its combat strength notably powerful and aggressive compared to other civilian bases, most residents here lived a life that was not as happy as those in other bases.
However, for the inhabitants of this post-apocalyptic world, as long as they could survive, that was enough.
For this reason, even if it required paying some price, it was within an acceptable range... even if it meant sacrificing human dignity.
Recently, Ming Snake Base had undergone some new changes.
These changes subtly and silently integrated into the entire base, quietly occupying it without anyone noticing.
A crow occupying a magpie's nest.
Perhaps that was one way to describe it.
Faces gradually underwent some changes, their skin becoming increasingly gray, as if poisoned by some toxin.
Yet, everyone felt nothing amiss. Even those among them who had grown strange ears showed no signs of concern; such transformations seemed perfectly normal.
From time to time, human corpses were cleared away.
These twisted bodies refused the rations provided by the base, opting instead to consume the food stored in their homes.
As a result, those who exhibited no abnormalities were quickly singled out and killed by others.
Gradually, strange creatures began to appear within the base.
Their bodies were a dull green color, with white bellies. Most of their bodies were smooth and shiny, but they had scaled ridges along their backs.
They bore vague humanoid features but had fish-like heads, with large, bulging eyes that never closed, resembling a creature akin to a Frogman.
On either side of their necks were constantly quivering gills, and their long limbs were webbed.
Their manner of movement differed greatly from that of humans; they did not walk step by step on two legs but rather jumped forward in a chaotic manner, sometimes using only their hind legs and at other times moving on all fours. Their hoarse, sharp croaks conveyed dark emotions that their faces could not express.
Yet no one found anything unusual about them.
These creatures, almost like nightmares come to life, roamed the base freely, moving in groups. They brushed past people, who remained oblivious to their presence as if nothing strange was happening at all.
On that first deep night of 2006, under the dim moonlight, the dark Survivor Base welcomed a group of unfamiliar guests.
Long white hair flowed gently in the cold wind, and as his icy gaze fixed on the shadowy outlines of the base ahead, a glimmer of cold light flickered deep within his dark eyes.
He was a man filled with a chilling intent to kill. When he appeared outside the Ming Snake Base, every action he took signified that he was not a visitor here for friendly purposes.
In fact, he had come for revenge.
To avenge a girl who had died unjustly.
Beneath him stood a towering White Wolf, massive like a mountain, far beyond human imagination in size.
He stood atop the White Wolf, coldly surveying the Survivor Base bathed in moonlight, and issued a merciless command.
"You have one hour. After one hour, I do not want to see a single Living Being standing within this base."
Behind him, on the ridge, a group of Third-Stage Zombies exchanged glances before emitting sharp cries and charging toward the distant base.
Alongside them surged a tide of Zombies.
Holding an Urn, Wang Jing stood silently on the shoulder of a Third-Stage Strength-Type Zombie, expressionless as he directed the hundreds of thousands of Zombies to engulf the distant Human Base.
Under the amplification of his Mental Power, these Zombies moved with agility akin to that of a Normal Human, no longer sluggish in their actions.
Leading the charge were dozens of Third-Stage Zombies, and the army of Zombies surged across the Snowfield like a tidal wave, heading towards the dark Human Base to engulf it.
The tremors caused by the massive legion's assault instantly awakened the slumbering Human Base.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! Sound the alarm! Sound the alarm!"
On the walls of the base, a captain shouted loudly, his face pale with fear at the sight of the enormous Zombie Legion rushing from the darkness of the Snowfield.
The sheer number was beyond his capacity to comprehend.
Suddenly—
A flash of cold light cut through the air as one of the Third-Stage Zombies at the front spat out dozens of sharp projectiles, killing and injuring a line of humans who were shouting on the wall.
In that moment, a piercing alarm echoed throughout the entire Human Base, startling countless people awake from their dreams, some in disbelief.
How could there be Zombies daring to attack Ming Snake Base within Qianzhou? Had a powerful Mutated Zombie emerged from those unguarded mountains?
Before the citizens could fully process their shock, the leading Third-Stage Zombies had already smashed through the outer wall of the base.
With a thunderous crash, bricks flew everywhere as the sturdy outer wall crumbled in an instant under the assault of these formidable Third-Stage Zombies, creating a massive breach.
Countless Zombies roared with excitement and charged into the base alongside their Third-Stage counterparts, launching attacks on all living beings around them. They drank deeply from human blood and reveled in humanity's suffering. In that cacophony of anguished screams, what was once a peaceful city transformed into a hell on earth.
Walking through this hell on earth with snow and Shishi, Chu Donglin's face was devoid of emotion, cold as ice. Even as the slaughter and bloodshed flashed before his eyes, his gaze remained unwavering.
“Daddy…” Shishi called out cautiously, but received no response.
The man didn’t even turn his head; the chilling silence left the girl unable to voice her thoughts.
She understood that at this moment, nothing could stop Chu Donglin, especially since the people in this base could no longer be considered truly human.
Though they still bore traces of humanity, the curse and corruption of the Evil God had transformed them into monsters caught between Deep Divers and humans, poised to become Deep Divers themselves at any moment, with no hope of salvation.
Just then, a hand suddenly reached out and gently grasped Chu Donglin's foot.
A frail, beautiful girl lifted her bloodstained face, looking at this stranger. She moved her lips, moaning in pain, “Help… help… please… save me…”
Thud—
A spinning machete sliced down sharply, and a head flew off in an instant.
Chu Donglin kicked the headless corpse of the girl aside as if he hadn’t seen the deceased at all, slowly making his way toward the tallest building in the center of the city’s base. (To be continued…)
