"I once heard something."
In the Dark World, the man looked at the woman before him and smiled lightly. "The strongest weapon that humanity takes pride in, nuclear weapons, was actually created by you? Nyarlathotep?"
After a pause, he added, "Or... Acha?"
Then darkness loomed closer, and the Enchanting woman stepped forward with a soft laugh.
"That's not entirely correct."
She walked to the man's side and gently brushed her hand against the dark space, causing it to fade away and revealing the interior of a research laboratory.
An elderly man with white hair sat at his designated spot, deeply engrossed in calculations. Behind him, a woman familiar to the man sat idly in a lab coat, playing with a pen.
Her extraordinary Enchanting demeanor could not be concealed even by the solemnity of the lab coat.
Standing beside the man, she observed everything happening in the laboratory and said with a calm smile, "That fellow named Albert is quite interesting... from a human perspective, very interesting."
"So you told him how to create Nuclear Weapons?"
The man glanced at her and asked.
The woman laughed innocently. "I just thought it was sad to see him struggling to develop a weapon to destroy the world without any progress. Out of sympathy, I casually reminded him of something; I didn't incite him. Even without me, that fellow would eventually figure out how to create Nuclear Weapons. You can't just pin all the blame on me."
The man remained noncommittal.
He shrugged and continued watching the elderly man, observing this individual who had left a significant mark on human scientific history. He asked again, "How long have you been in this laboratory?"
"Three years, I think... it seems like three years."
"Interesting?"
"More or less. Watching insignificant humans desperately seek the truths of the universe, struggling to create weapons and powers that could lead to their own destruction. That feeling is quite fascinating."
"Like how humans observe ants when they're bored?"
"In a way... yes."
The woman glanced at the man and smiled, "But humans can only observe ants; they can never become one and participate, which naturally takes away a lot of the fun."
"So what do you really think of humans?"
The woman looked at him with a sweet smile, "Are you sure you want to know?"
"I can guess."
She chuckled lightly, "Then why ask?"
"I'm just confirming one last time."
He flexed his right hand slightly. The man turned to the woman beside him, "If I have one, will I become like you?"
"Like me? Are you referring to being Enchanting, a beauty that captivates everyone?"
The woman shook her head, "If that's what you mean, I can only tell you it's impossible. You'll always be stuck where you are; after all, charm is innate. No matter how hard you try in this lifetime, you'll never reach even a fraction of what I possess."
The man looked at her seriously, refusing to relax. "You know exactly what I'm talking about."
"Well then, if you mean psychologically... I can only say that no one, not even the Evil God, can answer that question for you. After all, the future is always full of uncertainties; even the Great Old One cannot see through the mists of time. The only way to know what the future holds is to walk it yourself."
The woman's expression was rarely serious, showing no hint of frivolity.
However, after finishing her sentence, she returned to her usual self, playfully patting the man beside her on the shoulder.
"But does it really matter what happens in the future? You humans have a saying: live in the moment—or as they say, 'drink today, be merry today.' As long as you're having fun right now, does it really matter what the future holds?"
The man glanced at her and shook his head.
"So you just died? Because you focused only on the present and ignored the future, and ended up dying unexpectedly?"
The woman shot him an annoyed glare. "Death is merely another journey. For the Great Old One, a long life is just a journey for the living; death is a new beginning. We do not fear death. Don't mock me with your shallow human concepts; being laughed at by ants is quite boring."
"Alright... then one last question."
The man looked at the woman beside him. He didn't notice when their surroundings had changed.
They had shifted from a crowded laboratory to an expansive wilderness under blue and white clouds, where towering snow-capped mountains could be seen at the edge of the grasslands. Beside the prairie, a herd of Mammoths was migrating, while several Saber-toothed Tigers lingered nearby, hesitating over whether to hunt such colossal creatures.
Yet neither the man nor the woman paid any attention to this change in scenery.
They continued discussing their topic.
"Why did you choose me? Or why did you select me as your heir? If you wanted to, you wouldn't have to die at all; Mordigian's life essence could save you."
The woman shot him a look.
"Do you believe I would be so kind to you just because I fell in love with you?"
The man shook his head. "That joke isn't funny at all."
"Actually, I feel the same way," the woman replied.
She giggled, patting his shoulder. "I just have a simple sense of mischief."
Leaving the man behind, she strode confidently toward a Saber-toothed Tiger that had wandered across the grassland, boldly climbing onto its back.
The fierce predator trembled beneath her, resembling a submissive cat that dared not resist.
As she rode the massive Saber-toothed Tiger across the plains, she remarked lightly, "I've been on Earth for tens of thousands of years, witnessing your kind evolve from ignorant savages to reaching the top of the Food Chain. I've seen many interesting things and fascinating people."
"However, fellows like you are rare. Yet I've encountered many who are just as exceptional as you."
"Unfortunately, they weren't very lucky. They didn't meet me when I wanted to conduct my experiments, so they missed out on the power of the Evil God."
"When I saw you thrown into the Zombie Sea by that group of people, I was curious about what would happen if you not only survived but returned as a Zombie to take revenge on those who wronged you."
"So I preserved your intelligence, allowing you to become a wise and remembering Zombie who could fight back."
"It was merely a way to pass the time out of boredom; I never expected you would grow stronger step by step. That was somewhat unexpected."
"While observing you, I had another idea: what if a fellow with both Zombie and human traits suddenly accepted my power and transformed into a Great Old One? What would that fellow become?"
"At that moment, I had already decided to make you my successor."
The man glanced at her and shook his head. "So all of this is just the result of your whimsy?"
The woman laughed. "In a sense, yes, it truly is."
"Well then, I've finished asking my questions."
The man looked at the woman before him and said calmly, "You can disappear now."
The woman shook her head and chuckled softly, appearing quite troubled.
"It seems I've found a heartless heir. You show no sentiment at all for my complete departure, reacting so coldly... At least you could hold me and cry a little, offer me some comfort?"
"You really have a lot of demands."
The man shook his head, stepped in front of the woman, and opened his arms to embrace her.
"Since I'm going to die completely and never return, shouldn't you comfort me a bit more?"
The woman clutched her collar and looked at him with a pitiful expression. "To be honest, I'm very curious about the specific feelings humans have during mating. Is it really that pleasurable? You humans are so enthusiastic about it... Why not have one last fling before I die? Just pity me a little; you can't let me die without ever having tasted a man's touch, can you?"
The man's face darkened, veins bulging on his forehead.
Without another word, he lifted his foot and kicked the woman off the back of the Saber-toothed Tiger.
"Get lost!"
...
...
A fierce wind howled as the shockwave from the explosion swept across the wilderness.
The Zombies that had been guarding the Meteorite Crater were there to prevent their target from breaking free at the last moment. Under the coercive orders of their leaders, they had long been prepared to face death.
However, until the fierce flames roared forth, there had been no movement on the Tall Stone Platform that was vigilantly watched by countless people.
When the Light Spot suddenly expanded, the intensely hot White Light Band surged past every Zombie like a floodgate bursting open. In the field of vision, the center of the explosion became a sea of light, glaringly white and blinding, rendering everything invisible.
The surrounding walls of Rebar had already warped and twisted under the scorching heat, while the remaining Mutated Zombies hid in the nearest tall buildings, relying on the protection of Reinforced Concrete to avoid the most furious shockwaves and high temperatures.
The colossal Surging Energy Stream rushed past them, its immense force tearing at the winds as it howled inward. The nearby Zombies struggled to maintain their footing to avoid being blown away.
Compared to the scene when the nuclear bomb descended, everything before them now began to spiral into chaos.
Plants and Sandstone were ripped from their surroundings and swept into the torrent, immediately devoured, shredded, and vanished without a trace.
At that moment, all sounds were suppressed, and visibility blurred; everything on the ground became extraordinarily chaotic.
A few Powerful Zombies that were too close, despite possessing strength above Fourth Tier, nearly got caught in it. If not for other High-Level Zombies acting swiftly to pull them back, they would have likely been sucked into this destructive force and vaporized in an instant.
It was only at this moment that people could clearly recognize that purely in terms of power, Nuclear Weapons truly deserved to be called humanity's strongest Strategic Weapon. Before this overwhelming force of destruction, no matter how formidable a creature might be, it could only choose to retreat.
Even… the legendary Evil God. (To be continued…)
