Fang Zhi had already sealed the blood from his severed arm with a secret technique, stopping the pain. He took out a Chen State Talisman, which ignited spontaneously without wind. Fang Zhi slapped the talisman onto the ground, and immediately, a whirlwind of dust and debris rose up, enveloping him.
"Trying to escape? You think you can run without my permission?" Qingyi's voice rang out sharply as she brandished the Phoenix Bell. She shook it three times, and the Gu Corpse seemed to respond to her command, its eyes flashing with a sinister glare as it lunged into the swirling dust.
"Ding ding!"
The sounds of Yin Luo from within the dust clashed with the ringing of the Phoenix Bell in Qingyi's hand. The bell's chimes grew more urgent and shrill, while Yin Luo's voice became increasingly deep and muffled. In less than a moment, it was completely suppressed by the Phoenix Bell.
The chaotic ringing echoed through the forest, and those lost in dreams would never have imagined that a deadly battle was unfolding in this usually tranquil setting.
Wei Ning, Ding Ying, and Liu Linglang were all disturbed by the cacophony of bells. Liu Linglang even covered her ears, her expression one of discomfort.
Suddenly, Fang Zhi let out a muffled groan from within the dust cloud and burst forth. Wei Ning and the others focused their gaze and saw that Fang Zhi was surrounded by soft Gu Worms that looked like slimy slugs—utterly repulsive.
They crawled over Fang Zhi's body, leaving deep gashes wherever they touched. Covered in blood, he rushed to the feet of the Phoenix Maiden, bowing repeatedly as if he were pounding garlic. "Goddess, I was wrong! I won't dare again..."
Qingyi shook the Phoenix Bell even more urgently, her voice cold. "Now that you realize your mistake, it's too late!"
Just behind Fang Zhi, the Gu Corpse charged out as well. Under Qingyi's command, it tightly coiled around him. The corpse began to "melt," transforming into numerous Gu Worms that crawled onto Fang Zhi’s body. With each step they took, another deep gash appeared on him. The ringing of Qingyi's bell intensified and became sharper; it seemed that the Gu Worms were becoming excited as they forced their way into every orifice of Fang Zhi—his ears, eyes, navel, backside, even his genitals—anywhere there was an opening.
Fang Zhi trembled in agony, rolling on the ground as his screams pierced through the night sky.
Meanwhile, Qingyi wore a vicious grin as she watched Fang Zhi writhe in pain, clearly relishing every moment as she shook the bell faster. The Gu Worms grew increasingly frenzied.
Ding Ying and Liu Linglang turned their heads at the same time, unable to bear to witness the scene.
Suddenly, as the sound of the Phoenix Bell ceased, Qing turned around and saw that Wei Ning had approached her side without her noticing. Grabbing her hand, he coldly said, "They only stole something from your home and have already returned it to you. You can report it to the authorities or settle it privately, but is it really fair to want them dead just because they stole from you?"
Qing replied, "It's your life; you wouldn't care."
Wei Ning responded, "I may not care about that, but what you are doing is truly excessive. I could ignore it if I hadn't seen it, but now that I have, I must intervene."
Wei Ning looked at Horan and then at the Phoenix Maiden. "This girl doesn't understand; is this also your intention?"
The Phoenix Maiden sighed, "Once the Gu God is unleashed, it will not stop until lives are taken. Otherwise, it will turn against those who control it. I had warned him before, but he refused to listen, which is why we resorted to this desperate measure."
On the ground, Fang Zhi seemed to grasp at a lifeline as he cried out frantically, "Brother Wei, save me! Brother Wei, please save me..."
Wei Ning frowned and glanced at Fang Zhi. At this moment, Fang Zhi's face was half-eaten away by the Gu Worms, exposing ghastly white bones. His abdomen had been gnawed open, colorful intestines spilling out onto the ground. "He may have made mistakes, but he doesn't deserve to die. Can you save him?" Wei Ning pleaded with the Phoenix Maiden.
The Phoenix Maiden shook her head.
Qing pulled her hand away from Wei Ning and stepped aside, shaking her hands even more vigorously. Wei Ning scolded her, "You child, how could you..."
Before Wei Ning could finish speaking, Fang Zhi, who was struggling on the ground, suddenly jumped up and rushed to Qing's side. With all her strength, she wrapped her only hand around Qing, her eyes bloodshot as she hissed, "You filthy bitch, I won't let you live even if I die."
With that, she bit down hard on Qing's neck. In one swift motion, she tore away a large chunk of flesh, causing Qing to scream in pain. At that moment, the Gu Worms began to crawl up Qing's body, following Fang Zhi's lead.
Phoenix Maiden quickly took out the Phoenix Bell. A series of clear chimes rang out, and the Gu Worms seemed to respond to some kind of call, crawling off Fang Zhi and Qing and returning to the Gu Corpse. The half-melted Gu Corpse reformed into a complete body.
"Sister, look at him." Fang Zhi's hand was still tightly gripping Qing, her fingers deeply embedded in Qing's flesh. Looking at Fang Zhi now, her body was already mangled from bites, her face reduced to a mere mask of bones, yet her eyes remained fixed on Qing with a fierce hatred.
"Sister, please help me." Qing struggled to shake off the arm embedded in her shoulder, but Fang Zhi's grip was too strong; no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't break free. Blood flowed profusely from her wound as tears welled in her eyes while she looked pleadingly at Phoenix Maiden.
"You poor child." Phoenix Maiden was extremely protective of Qing and hurried over. She pulled out a giant ant from her pocket and placed it on Qing's wound. The ant clamped down hard on the injury, causing Qing to shudder in pain as she nearly fainted. Phoenix Maiden then pinched off the ant's body, leaving its head embedded in the wound. Following this method, she used about a dozen ants to stitch up Qing's injury. Strangely enough, the bleeding almost stopped entirely, forming a black scar. The ant's head seemed to have a numbing effect; Qing no longer grimaced in pain as she had at first.
However, Fang Zhi's hand remained like a steel claw gripping Qing tightly, refusing to budge despite all their efforts.
"I'll give it a try," Wei Ning said as he approached. He attempted to pry Fang Zhi's fingers loose but realized that she must have used all her remaining strength for this grip; if he applied too much force, Fang Zhi’s fingers would surely break.
"I'll find something to help," Wei Ning thought. Not wanting to damage Fang Zhi’s corpse further, he searched for a tool to pry it open slowly. But before he could turn back around, Qing cheerfully exclaimed, "All done."
"You!" Wei Ning was instantly furious upon realizing that Qing had already severed all of Fang Zhi’s fingers. Now Fang Zhi lay sprawled on the ground after being kicked down by Qing. With a carefree smile on her face, Qing looked at Phoenix Maiden as if nothing had happened.
