The method originally had a name, known as the "Beidou Seven Stars Life-Extending Method." Those who mastered this technique, regardless of their age or physical condition, could revive themselves as long as they still had breath. The oil lamp that Wang Tuozi handed to Wei Ning was the Destiny Seven Star Lamp. The so-called Seven Star Lamp refers to seven major and crucial acupoints within the body that can absorb and transform high-dimensional life energy. These seven acupoints are distributed throughout the human body, and when viewed from the left side, they form a pattern resembling the Big Dipper with its mouth facing downward.
The names of these acupoints and their corresponding stars are as follows: Shan Zhong Acupoint corresponds to the Poor Wolf Star Lamp; A Point Suspended in Front of the Eye corresponds to the Giant Gate Star Lamp; Nourishing Pillar corresponds to the Lu Cun Star Lamp; Jiaji Acupoint corresponds to the Wenqu Star Lamp; Mingmen Acupoint corresponds to the Lianzheng Star Lamp; Dantian Qi Point corresponds to the Martial Star Lamp; Undersea Cavern corresponds to the Gang Star Lamp. This Seven Star Lamp is often seen in television shows, where someone going to hell would hand over a lamp for others to guard. However, here there is only one aspect, not two.
These seven acupoints form the Destiny Seven Star Lamp within a person's body. To light a perpetual lamp, one must use an oil-adding method. In ancient times, Zhuge Kongming used the Destiny Seven Star Lamp technique to extend his life, which helped him mitigate some of the karmic burdens caused by burning down enemy troops with fire attacks during his campaigns. However, due to Zhuge Liang's repeated use of fire attacks to assist Liu Bei in seizing Three Parts Down, countless enemy soldiers perished, along with many innocent plants and animals. The heavy killing karma hindered his requests for help. As a result, General Wei Yan accidentally knocked over the life star lamp while rushing into the main tent with military news, preventing any connection with the Big Dipper star lord and leading to a failed prayer for longevity. Thus, the renowned statesman Zhuge Kongming met his end on Wuzhang Plain.
The seven acupoints governed by the Seven Star Lamp are all crucial for life and cultivation. If someone could truly use their internal life points as a lamp and understand this principle, igniting their internal Seven Star Lamp could indeed grant them divine powers and change their fate. Unfortunately, Zhuge Kongming was too focused on worldly matters and had no time to practice the internal Seven Stars method. He worshipped an external Seven Star Lamp instead, resulting in his life star lamp being extinguished by accident and leading to failure. Thus, he had no choice but to die with regret on Wuzhang Plain. In contrast, Xu Shu, who was "in Cao's camp but loyal to Han," understood his destiny and quietly cultivated himself, igniting his internal Seven Star Lamp and achieving success.
Of course, Wang Tuozi could only ignite the external Seven Star Lamp. If he could truly light the Destiny Seven Star Lamp himself, he wouldn't need Wei Ning to guard it or refill it for him. With Three Mountains and Five Peaks and Azure Sky and Yellow Springs, where couldn't he go?
Wang Tuozi followed Skeleton Old Man into a side room at the back. Inside was a hidden door. They passed through a dark corridor and stopped in front of a painting of a lady. The painting had been there for many years but remained vividly lifelike; however, it was anything but elegant—depicting a fully naked woman in a very peculiar sitting posture: Guanyin sitting on a lotus.
In front of the painting were several offerings of livestock and fresh fruits. Skeleton Old Man said seriously, "Old Wang, entering here is not ordinary; living people enter a dead place where survival is uncertain. Are you really sure about this?"
Wang Tuozi smiled wryly and replied, "In my youth, I committed such evil deeds that I should have gone to hell long ago. But Meng Ge took pity on me and exchanged my life for another's head, allowing me to live several more decades through this method of filling my life force. Sooner or later, I will have to go down there anyway; it might be better to go early for a warm-up—a day trip to hell—to familiarize myself with the terrain so that when I do go down for real, I won't feel like an outsider getting cheated while counting money for others! By the way, is there a tour guide in hell? Is it dark? Are there public restrooms down there that charge fees?"
Old Man Shi replied impatiently, "Old Wang, your sharp tongue probably won't change even in front of King Yan! Before we go down there, I need to sever your twelve paths: first severing Mountain Ghosts; second severing Stone Gates; third severing Ghost Trails; fourth severing Ghost Roots; fifth severing Evil Paths; sixth severing Earth Plagues; seventh severing Enemies and Creditors; eighth severing Epidemics and Temple Gods; ninth severing Southern Suburb Ghosts; tenth severing Northern Suburb Temple Gods; eleventh severing Underworld Roads; twelfth severing Fengdu Ghost Cave doors. If you can't come back up after this, then you won't be able to visit any of these twelve places—you'll just be a wandering ghost in hell! You need to think this through because it's serious business."
Wang Tuozi pondered for a moment before sighing deeply. "It has come to this point; there's no use in delaying any longer. Go ahead."
Old Man Shi nodded and said, "Since that's settled, I have nothing more to say. I've made it clear how serious this is—don't blame me afterward! But you can't blame me either—once I deal with you as a disaster and clear this karmic debt for you, you'll be able to reincarnate." He then patted Wang Tuozi's shoulder with his bony arm.
Wang Tuozi remained silent for a moment before saying dreamily, "It's almost been a hundred years now—time flies! You all must have waited quite painfully too—but that's alright; I'm here now. What I owe you all will be settled."
Wei Ning sat cross-legged with her legs folded, observing her nose with her heart while forming the Seven Stars Dou Gang decision with her hands. The wick transformed from one into seven as all seven burned brightly together without flickering in the wind. Wei Ning focused her mind on the area in front of her Eye Acupoint as flames roared brightly around her.
In the dead of night, there were only three hours left for Wang Tuozi. During this time, Wei Ning could only pray that everything would go smoothly and that no unexpected events would arise.
As the evening deepened, Wind Gate Village was as quiet as a graveyard. Apart from the flickering light of the Seven Star Lamp, there was hardly a glimmer of fire in the entire village, except for the Grand Master's Chair behind Wei Ning, which continued to sway gently in the stillness.
It creaked with an old, eerie sound.
Time passed second by second. Wei Ning's heart raced like an arrow on a string, silently chanting in his mind: Please don't let anything go wrong.
Suddenly, a series of thuds echoed from afar, gradually growing closer, striking at Wei Ning's heart like a drumbeat. His heart felt as if it were lodged in his throat as the sound approached. Step by step, someone entered. Wei Ning lifted his head and saw a figure flash outside the window.
Wei Ning's pupils dilated; this person was none other than Lin Lingsu, who always seemed to stick to Wang Tuozi like a stubborn adhesive.
The timing was impeccable.
Wei Ning sighed and stood up. "You really are punctual."
