"Corpse Demon?" Wei Ning had heard this name more than once from people's lips. The Corpse Ghost, which even Wang Tuozi found hard to subdue, was said to be linked to the Corpse Demon. It was the source of a powerful spirit, and there was also that Flesh-Eating Woman encountered in the border town, who had surrendered her tongue to the Corpse Demon. Then there was the Sh Skeleton who dealt in Corpse Oil Betel Nut. They all seemed intricately connected to the Corpse Demon. Both Master Wang Chuyi and the Flesh-Eating Woman regarded the Corpse Demon with great trepidation, their expressions changing at its mention. Even the formidable Dragon Tiger Mountain dared not easily make an enemy of the Corpse Demon. Yet, his grandfather wanted to take him there? How could they even get there?
Wei Ning couldn't help but ask, "Grandfather, what exactly is the Corpse Demon, and where is it?"
Wei Qiuxi replied, "The Corpse Demon was originally a very peaceful village. However, one villager mistakenly consumed the corpse of an Eternal Zombie and became infected with Corpse Poison, turning into a Vampire Zombie that wreaked havoc on the villagers. Anyone bitten by him would also transform into a Vampire Zombie. This led to a chain reaction, and soon the entire village was overrun by Zombies. In no time, Zombies rampaged everywhere, causing suffering among the people and alarming higher powers. Consequently, they sealed off the Corpse Demon, turning it into a place isolated from the world. As time passed, Evil Spirits began to flock into the Corpse Demon, making it a refuge for all lost souls and Evil Spirits. Once inside, nothing could leave; any ghost or monster that entered had to take pride in supporting it and feel shame in betraying it. If one entered, escaping again would be nearly impossible—there would be no place for them outside."
Wei Qiuxi continued, "The Corpse Demon is a very special place; those who can enter are half-human half-ghost entities—vengeful spirits that cannot fall into the Six Paths of Reincarnation—and each possesses extraordinary powers unlike those in the mortal realm. It acts like an omnipresent powerful entity that can almost halt the flow between this world and the next. In both the human world and Ghost Realm, everyone avoids them."
Wei Ning asked again, "So where is the Corpse Demon, and what does it have to do with us?"
Wei Qiuxi said, "I don't know where the Corpse Demon is—probably no one does—but when they want to find you, they will naturally appear. If they are not looking for you, you will never find them."
Wei Ning seemed to recall hearing about the Flesh-Eating Woman before and nodded. "Grandfather, what should we do? How do we get to the Corpse Demon?"
Wei Qiuxi replied, "This is actually simple; others might not be able to do it, but we can—because our ancestors came from there."
"What?" Wei Ning exclaimed in surprise.
Wei Qiuxi smiled wryly and said, "Do you really think we are still 'human'?"
He continued, "Back in the day when the Yellow Emperor fought Chiyou and emerged victorious with Taiping Sect's triumph—the victor becomes king while the vanquished are labeled as thieves—my Zhu You School was sealed within the Corpse Demon as a mysterious original sin."
"Our ancestors negotiated with the Corpse Demon so that future generations could walk among people, partake in human joys and sorrows. We have served as Ghost Messengers for generations and acted as Corpse Drivers for those who died far from home, accumulating merit in return for being allowed to enjoy earthly pleasures before gaining Three Souls and Seven Spirits—thus becoming true 'humans' capable of experiencing life and death. This is our family's fate as eternal Corpse Drivers."
Wei Qiuxi took a deep breath and said softly, "I never expected that our Wei Family has been in this profession for thousands of years. After all this time, it is indeed time to go back and take a look."
He continued, "The Corpse Demon exists and has not been destroyed by the earth, which means it has its own way of survival. There are certainly many capable individuals among them, and from them, we should be able to learn a lot," Wei Qiuxi glanced at Wei Ning and added, "including news about Qiqi."
Wei Ning's face lit up with joy, and her hopes soared even higher.
Wei Qiuxi said, "Of course, we also have an even more important mission to accomplish."
"What is it?" Wei Ning asked.
"We need to find a lost avatar of Wei Xianjun," Wei Qiuxi explained. "Over the years, I have searched extensively and found the whereabouts of two avatars. One is with your friend Wu Haozi, and the other is within you. However, the last one remains elusive."
"I have heard that my grandfather, Wei Xianjun, possessed great magical powers and had the ability to travel freely between the Yin-Yang Realm. I suspect he might have entered the Corpse Demon. Therefore, I believe the last avatar was left inside the Corpse Demon."
"As long as we find the last avatar, combining all three will allow us to eliminate that villain Wei Xian Gui."
Compared to her grandfather's wishes, Wei Ning was clearly more concerned about Qiqi. She urgently asked, "Grandfather, do you think anyone inside the Corpse Demon would know about Qiqi?"
Wei Qiuxi nodded and replied, "There shouldn't be anything they don't know; I believe they will have information."
"Is there anyone who can 'revive' Qiqi?"
Wei Qiuxi shrugged and said, "The laws of the earth are there, and the Corpse Demon’s people probably wouldn’t dare to touch it easily. But whether there are other ways, I cannot say..."
Wei Ning's eyes darkened, unable to hide the disappointment in them.
Wei Qiuxi knew that Wei Ning was worried about Qiqi and comforted him, saying, "Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Qiqi is such a good girl; she will be treated well."
Wei Ning nodded.
Wei Qiuxi continued, "If we want to find the Corpse Demon, we must first know its representative in the living world: the Seven Sinners."
"Ah." Wei Ning suddenly exclaimed.
"You know?" Wei Qiuxi asked. Wei Ning recounted the events of the Flesh-Eating Woman from years ago to his grandfather. Wei Qiuxi couldn't help but sigh and said, "Wei Ning, since you promised her, why not go through with it?"
Wei Ning felt embarrassed. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to; it was just that so much had happened during this period that he simply didn’t have time to attend to this matter. Wei Qiuxi said seriously, "Humans and ghosts are different. The living do not owe debts to the dead. Since you promised her, you must fulfill that promise. Otherwise, if you don’t repay this debt, you will never find peace in this life or the next. Do you understand?"
Wei Ning nodded. Wei Qiuxi added, "Well then, since she has seen the Seven Sinners, let’s seek her out first. Perhaps from her we can learn more about the Corpse Demon. Get ready; we’ll leave soon."
