Chapter Sixteen: The Path of Foundation Establishment
Lin Yun looked at everyone and continued, "Apart from the members of the Lin Family, no one else can obtain even half a True Essence Pill in Solitary Moon City. They must rely on their own talents and hard work to cultivate diligently until they successfully transform their path."
"The True Essence Pill has the effect of Foundation Establishment, ensuring that you all will at least maintain a first level Foundation. You will succeed in your transformation within a few days, while those from other families will need half a month, and most of them will have their Cultivation reset to zero."
"This is the preciousness of the True Essence Pill. It is also the special care that the Lin Family Head provides for the Lin Family members. This kind of care is only given once. In the future, your cultivation will depend on yourselves. Do you understand?"
"Understood," the Lin Clan Members replied loudly, each feeling a newfound confidence. They were already far ahead in their starting point compared to the new disciples who would compete three months later.
"However," as everyone was filled with excitement, Lin Yun shifted his tone, "although most of those from other families will become Outer Disciples, if they manage to transform their Cultivation without significant drops like you, they will undoubtedly be formidable opponents."
"I require at least five out of ten slots to be secured by you. You are all chosen by me, and during these days, you must practice diligently and not bring shame to my name."
Lin Heng stood up confidently and said, "Elder, rest assured. If I take action, I will ensure that our team secures first place in the Inner Sect Disciple competition and bring glory to you."
"Good, that's the confidence I want," Lin Yun praised.
Elder Lin Yun had selected a total of fifty-seven individuals, while other elders had chosen one hundred seventy-five disciples from their respective families. This time, there were a total of two hundred thirty-two new disciples entering Solitary Moon City, but only the top ten would become Inner Sect Disciples. The rest would serve as miscellaneous workers in Solitary Moon City.
Lin Yun was an Outer Disciple of Solitary Moon City. He had spent decades there; his primary daily tasks included fetching water, chopping wood, cooking, cleaning, and farming. In a day, he only had one or two hours available for cultivation.
After enduring many years of hardship, he finally became the top Outer Disciple and could help select young disciples for Solitary Moon City. He no longer needed to perform those menial tasks and could focus on his cultivation. However, he did not have access to the true cultivation methods of Solitary Moon City; having time without proper guidance was useless.
His greatest desire was to become an Inner Sect Disciple and obtain a Cultivation Pill.
When the Lin Family members learned about the number of new disciples, many felt as if a heavy stone weighed on their chests; the competition was too fierce. Upon realizing that Elder Lin was merely an Outer Disciple, their determination to become Inner Sect Disciples grew even stronger.
If they were just Outer Disciples, the best they could achieve would be like Lin Yun—reaching the Nurturing Origin Realm. This level of Foundation was already quite high for the clansmen in their mountain town; such Foundations were typically held by elders or family heads in Qingshan Town.
But this Foundation was as weak as an ant in the entire Kyushu.
"The Earth is the source of Vital Energy, the ancestor of all things..."
All the Lin Clan Disciples were deeply engrossed in their studies, working tirelessly, neglecting sleep and food, almost to the point of madness. With only ten spots available, they were all the talents of their respective families, coming here with the hopes and blessings of their clans to cultivate and become strong. No one was willing to be reduced to a mere servant.
Lin Feng was lagging behind everyone else, so he cherished his time even more.
Foundation Establishment, as the name suggests, is about solidifying one's foundation. The Earth Qi was exceptionally domineering, and the human body was fragile; if one did not first consolidate their foundation, an excessive accumulation of Vital Energy could lead to explosive death.
Drawing Earth Qi into the body, refining essence and marrow, tempering the flesh. In the end, only a few strands of pure and powerful Vital Energy would enter the Dantian; this is what is known as Cultivation. These pure and powerful Vital Energy would continuously condense, forming a lotus seed shape. When the lotus seed began to glow and develop towards blooming, it signified that one was about to step into the next Foundation Cultivation Realm.
Lin Miaomiao was the most relaxed among all the Lin Family disciples, cultivating at her own pace. She walked up to Lin Feng and handed him a porcelain vial, saying softly, "Take this."
"What is this?" Lin Feng asked.
"Foundation Pill," Lin Miaomiao replied gently, afraid others would hear.
Hearing the words Foundation Pill made Lin Feng's heart race. Within the five levels of Foundation Establishment, taking a Foundation Pill would immediately enhance one's Cultivation by one level.
Such a pill was incredibly precious for a Foundation Realm Cultivator; it was something one could only dream of. Lin Feng had once thought he could secure first place in the Martial Examination of Qingshan Town for the Lin family and obtain this Foundation Pill along with the Angry Dragon Fist Martial Arts Technique. In the end, he was eliminated by Lin Qing who had appeared with a spiritual weapon.
"And this," Lin Miaomiao continued, pulling out a booklet containing the incantation for Angry Dragon Fist Martial Arts Technique. "We can cultivate together."
If it were the old Lin Feng, he would have been unable to resist the allure of the Foundation Pill and would have joyfully accepted it. But now it was different; the Gray Robed Man had warned him against relying on any pills for cultivation.
Lin Feng merely accepted the booklet for Angry Dragon Fist Martial Arts Technique; that was what he truly desired.
“Do you not want the Foundation Pill? It can instantly elevate you to the first level of Foundation,” Lin Miaomiao asked, puzzled.
Lin Feng shook his head. “I want to rely on my own cultivation to improve. You should keep it for yourself.”
Despite Lin Miaomiao's repeated persuasion, Lin Feng remained resolute in his refusal. Growing somewhat irritated, she said, “Father sent you here to protect me. Don’t you think you’re weak?”
“I will become stronger.”
Lin Feng felt a bit annoyed and didn’t want to continue the conversation with Lin Miaomiao. After a moment, he turned and walked away. He understood that Lin Miaomiao was trying to help him, but it made him feel looked down upon and distrusted.
He found a secluded corner and pushed all thoughts aside, focusing on his potential cultivation.
As a newcomer to the Walker realm, he absorbed Earth Qi through his seven orifices. Once his body became sufficiently transparent, he would be able to absorb Earth Qi through all his pores.
Earth Qi was formless and invisible, entering his body through the seven orifices like a gentle stream, bringing comfort to both body and mind. Vital Energy flowed within him, nourishing his Internal Organs and Eight Extraordinary Meridians. After countless cycles of nourishment, his Internal Organs and Eight Extraordinary Meridians expelled impurities, akin to a rebirth.
Finally, after refining it down to its purest form, a trace of the strongest Vital Energy settled into his Dantian.
Within Lin Feng's body was a Stone Pearl, allowing him to refine energy much faster than an ordinary person. Unbeknownst to him, twenty days passed. Although the Vital Energy in his Dantian was still minimal, it had noticeably gained a sense of weightiness—more substantial than even the third level of True Qi.
“I’m about to break through.”
Lin Feng quietly contemplated as he halted his cultivation. According to the long-robed man’s words, without sufficient Physical Strength, one could not elevate their Foundation.
“This isn’t the mountains; there’s no way to hunt fierce beasts for their True Blood or Medicinal Bath. It’s quite difficult to enhance my Physical Strength here. If I directly use the Ancient Cauldron for cultivation, that might not be wise either. I wonder if that Ancient Cauldron is truly a treasure; would it attract thieves? Besides, everyone else is meditating while I practice lifting the cauldron alone—Elder Lin would surely think I’m crazy.”
Lin Feng pondered quietly on how he could cultivate his physical body but couldn’t come up with a good method. Another five days passed, and Lin Heng broke through to the fifth level of Foundation, becoming the first among the Lin Clan Disciples to achieve this milestone, reaching the same Foundation level as Lin Miaomiao.
A breakthrough in a month was indeed remarkable. Lin Heng's confidence soared, and he couldn't help but glance at Lin Miaomiao, subconsciously regarding her as his rival.
"With your talent and diligent training, you will surely secure a place among the disciples of Solitary Moon City. If you truly receive the city lord's teachings, don't forget my support today," Lin Yun praised while trying to build a connection.
Lin Heng held a lofty view of the Lin Family's disciples, yet he showed respect towards an elder like Lin Yun. "I owe my progress to Elder Lin's guidance. No matter what happens in the future, I will never forget your kindness today."
Lin Yun felt comforted by these words. "It's rare to find young people who remember their roots these days. I hope you keep your promise when you achieve success."
"I, Lin Heng, am definitely not the kind of person who burns bridges. My promises are as heavy as gold; please rest assured, Elder," Lin Heng declared earnestly.
In recent days, Lin Feng had not been training but had noticed some issues. For instance, although Lin Heng had reached the fifth level of Foundation, his Physical Strength was only around twenty thousand pounds. Others had even greater Physical Strength.
Suddenly, Lin Feng understood why the Gray Robed Man wanted to start over with his cultivation. Although True Essence Pills could convert Foundation levels, insufficient Physical Strength could not be compensated for. It was like a bamboo; once you reached the third segment, you couldn't go back to solidify your body in the first or second segments unless you broke the joints of the bamboo, which would disrupt your foundation and be worse than starting anew.
"It seems that the Gray Robed Man was right. I misjudged him."
Lin Feng silently apologized. He then realized another issue: Elder Lin encouraged everyone to cultivate and break through as much as possible. The higher one's Foundation, the more Vital Energy one possessed within, leading to greater strength and better odds in the upcoming Inner Sect Disciples Competition.
This method of cultivation seemed like common sense, but Lin Feng knew it was a misconception akin to forcing growth prematurely. As the Gray Robed Man said, a pyramid's height depended on how thick and wide its base was.
Suddenly, Lin Feng made a decision; he planned to leave this place in search of a location to strengthen his physical body. Elder Lin's cultivation method was entirely different from the path he intended to take; he couldn't continue following Elder Lin's approach.
In the early hours of the morning, when all was quiet and everyone was deep in sleep, Lin Feng quietly got out of bed and left his room. The yard was shrouded in darkness, but Lin Feng was very familiar with it and quickly found the main gate, cautiously opening it.
"What are you doing?"
A voice suddenly rang out behind him, sounding like Lin Yun. Startled, Lin Feng felt a chill run down his spine and broke into a cold sweat. Gritting his teeth, he turned around to see Lin Miaomiao standing before him.
"Are you trying to scare me? You really have learned to talk like Elder Lin," Lin Feng said softly.
"Where did you sneak off to?" Lin Miaomiao asked.
"I wanted to go into the mountains and cultivate alone for a while before coming back," Lin Feng replied.
Hearing this, Lin Miaomiao perked up. "Perfect! I've been feeling bored and restless these days. Take me with you."
"It seems like your father has really spoiled you. You don't want to stay anywhere that has a roof over it. Let's go."
The two of them tiptoed out of the courtyard. The living quarters for Outer Disciples in Solitary Moon City were quite different from those of the Inner Sect. The Inner Sect had disciples on guard, and there were people on duty at night, while the Outer Disciples were relatively lax.
Lin Feng and Lin Miaomiao didn't take much effort to successfully descend the mountain and leave Solitary Moon City.
