Chapter Twenty-Two: Inner Sect Selection
Lin Feng chose to set up at the Lake Shore for the Medicinal Bath. The area was spacious, allowing him to build a fire without worry. After preparing a large amount of firewood, he set up the Ancient Cauldron and began to boil water.
Once the water reached a rolling boil, Lin Feng poured in the Beast Blood he had personally collected. First, he added the True Blood from four White-Furred Bears, followed by the True Blood from a Mountain Tiger, and finally, the True Blood from a Golden Crocodile.
As these True Bloods were poured into the boiling water, the water bubbled even more vigorously, seemingly infused with immense power, causing it to shake and making the Ancient Cauldron tremble slightly.
Large bubbles began to form on the surface of the boiling water. Due to the tremendous power within, the bubbles rose rapidly, resembling a pot of oil frying something.
Lin Miaomiao glanced at the Ancient Cauldron with some trepidation and asked, "Lin Feng, what are you doing?"
"I'm soaking my body in Beast Blood to enhance my Physical Strength from the inside out. It's called a Medicinal Bath. Would you like to try it? I can let you," Lin Feng replied.
Miaomiao shook her head repeatedly. "I'd better pass; I'm not made of dough."
"Right, only I am an old piece of dough."
Lin Feng joked with a smile before pouring in the last portion of True Blood—the most precious one he had obtained this time. The True Blood from the Azure Wind Rhinoceros was from a second-tier beast and possessed considerable spiritual power. In an open field, even dozens of Golden Crocodiles would struggle to injure an Azure Wind Rhinoceros.
As the True Blood from the Azure Wind Rhinoceros entered the Ancient Cauldron, the boiling water shook even more violently, sounding like sizzling oil as it jumped around. Then, a roar from the Azure Wind Rhinoceros echoed from within the cauldron, vibrating through the boiling water and sending a chill down Lin Feng's spine. After a while, the roar faded away.
"The True Blood of a Second-Stage Beast is this formidable; I can't imagine what would happen with a Third-Stage Beast."
With that thought in mind, Lin Feng began to remove his clothes. However, this Medicinal Bath was different from the last one. This time Miaomiao was nearby. She watched as Lin Feng took off his outer garment, revealing his upper body. He showed no signs of stopping and continued to undress until he was left in his blue shorts.
"What... what are you doing?" Miaomiao hurriedly turned away, her heart racing like a deer and her face turning bright red.
"It's for the Medicinal Bath," Lin Feng replied. Only then did he realize what was happening and quickly added, "Sorry! I was so focused on observing the changes in Beast Blood that I forgot you were here."
"You...," Miaomiao stammered in panic, unable to find words to express herself. The image of Lin Feng's bare upper body combined with those blue shorts made her heart race even faster.
To maximize the effects of the Medicinal Bath, Lin Feng chose to use the special Medicinal Bath liquid. Moreover, this time, all the Beast Blood was obtained at the cost of his life, and he couldn't afford to waste a single drop. If drinking the bathwater after his soak proved effective, Lin Feng wouldn't mind consuming every last bit of it.
"Miaomiao, we've been through life and death together this time. With our deep bond, you don't need to avoid me; I won't mind you watching," Lin Feng said while enjoying his Medicinal Bath.
"I do mind! You disgusting pervert, who would want to look at you? Men are truly no good," Miaomiao retorted angrily. She didn't want to stay there any longer; the awkwardness of the situation was too much for her. She walked toward the forest but didn't venture too far, worried that a ferocious beast might appear and interrupt Lin Feng's bath.
Lin Feng was in an exceptionally good mood at that moment and deliberately called out in Miaomiao's direction, "The handsome guy is taking a bath; anyone want to watch?"
Miaomiao was not far away but could hear him clearly. She huffed in annoyance, "Lin Feng, shameless!"
A surge of impulse rushed through her; she really wanted to rush over and cover Lin Feng's mouth, then give him a good lesson.
However, Lin Feng's moment of relaxation came to an end as the True Blood Elixir began to take effect. He felt a series of crackling sensations throughout his body, as if sparks were igniting in countless places.
This brought both pain and itchiness, followed by a strange sense of comfort. Unable to help himself, Lin Feng started making strange sounds.
Miaomiao could no longer tolerate it. She looked at Lin Feng and warned, "Lin Feng, if you keep shouting like that, I'll kick over your precious cauldron."
"I don't want to..."
Before Lin Feng could finish his sentence, a wave of intense pain surged through him as the True Blood Elixir truly kicked in. The torment of physical training was external cultivation that enhanced the body's surface strength. Consuming beast blood and flesh absorbed spiritual energy; this was internal cultivation of the body. However, both methods had their rough edges and drawbacks.
Lin Feng could distinctly feel that although the Medicinal Bath was equally excruciating, it also brought an indescribable sense of relief. The Medicinal Bath seemed to nourish his body comprehensively—from every pore to deep within his Internal Organs and Eight Extraordinary Meridians, even filling the gaps between his bones—connecting both internal and external aspects of his body.
During the Medicinal Bath process, he felt as though he was not only reinforcing his physical form but also enhancing and elevating the waterfall training and consumption of beast blood and flesh spiritual energy. It allowed these processes to penetrate deeply and merge into one.
This was his true complete body.
The Medicinal Bath lasted for an hour. Afterward, Lin Feng felt that his Physical Strength had increased significantly; he was much stronger than before. He was certain he had broken through to twenty thousand pounds of Physical Strength.
Lin Feng began to lift the Ancient Cauldron, which felt as heavy as ever. He knew that the cauldron had actually doubled in weight. This time, lifting it was much better than before. After a thousand repetitions, Lin Feng managed to lift it thirty-seven more times before his strength was completely exhausted.
"Now I can break through."
At this moment, Lin Feng felt a surge of confidence. He immediately sat down to meditate, drawing in Vital Energy. Through repeated training, only a few strands of the purest Vital Energy transformed into his Cultivation. These Cultivation energies continuously condensed, ultimately forming the shape of a lotus seed.
Miaomiao emerged from the forest and saw Lin Feng pushing through a critical moment; she did not dare to let her guard down. Standing beside Lin Feng, Miaomiao remained vigilant, scanning the surroundings of the forest.
The triannual Inner Sect Disciple selection competition at Solitary Moon City was being held as scheduled. This event was a significant occasion for Solitary Moon City. Inner Sect Elders would attend to assess the qualifications of the disciples and select those they found satisfactory.
The Training Ground of Solitary Moon City was built against the mountains, extending to cliffs on both sides. In front lay the steps leading to the Mountain Gate, while behind were clusters of palaces.
At this moment, the Training Ground was crowded with disciples. Outer Disciples who remained in Solitary Moon City gathered to watch the excitement, while Inner Sect Disciples also came out for some fresh air.
The battle began as two figures appeared on the Training Ground—one black and one white. It was Lin Heng against Guan Shan. Lin Heng's Cultivation had reached the peak of the fifth level, just one step away from the sixth level, while Guan Shan had only recently reached the fifth level.
The two engaged in battle without hesitation. As it was his debut performance, Lin Heng went all out without holding back any moves. He aimed to make a remarkable impression in this Inner Disciple Competition.
The black and white figures intertwined, clashing head-on multiple times in dangerous encounters. Although Guan Shan's Cultivation was inferior to Lin Heng's, he had successfully transformed his strength through his own efforts without relying on True Essence Pills; thus, he was formidable and not far behind Lin Heng.
Facing a tough opponent in his first battle left Lin Heng feeling somewhat displeased, prompting him to intensify his offensive.
Lin Yun watched Guan Shan on stage and then glanced at Elder Fei across from him, thinking, "Fei Ze actually chose such a strong contender."
Fei Ze held a high status among Outer Disciples, second only to Lin Yun himself. Watching Lin Heng on stage made Fei Ze anxious; he thought, "The Lin family has such a strong young man; it won't be easy for Guan Shan to win. This time I will definitely surpass Lin Yun and become the top Outer Disciple."
"Lin Yun, this time I've found an exceptional disciple; just wait for your embarrassment," Fei Ze said with a faintly smug smile directed at Lin Yun.
Lin Heng's offensive came like a storm, unleashing all his Vital Energy in relentless attacks without leaving any room for defense. He believed that offense was the best defense and thus felt no need to defend himself.
Guan Shan remained steady and balanced in both offense and defense. From an overall perspective, Guan Shan appeared to be retreating step by step under Lin Heng's momentum.
However, Guan Shan remained calm and composed, his formation unshaken. Although Lin Heng's attacks were fierce, his Vital Energy was limited. If Guan Shan could hold out until Lin Heng exhausted his Vital Energy, victory would be his.
But things did not go as planned. Lin Heng practiced a Martial Arts Technique similar to the eagle's claw, delivering rapid and powerful strikes. When Guan Shan let his guard down for just a moment, Lin Heng seized the opportunity and widened the gap in Guan Shan's defense.
In the end, Guan Shan's clothing was tattered and flying about, with a large hole in the fabric over his chest. Bloodied claw marks marred his exposed chest muscles.
"Lin Heng wins," declared the Head Elder.
"Very good," Lin Yun said with a pleased expression, glancing triumphantly at Fei Ze across from him. It was worth noting that Lin Heng was his second-in-command; if Lin Heng had lost, Lin Yun would have had little chance of success.
"Next match: Lin Hu versus Ke Xiang."
Two figures stepped onto the stage, both robust disciples. Their Cultivation levels were in the Dual Realm. Compared to the previous match, this contest was significantly less intense.
Lin Yun's primary concern was for Miaomiao. He asked, "Have we sent someone to check? Has Lin Miaomiao returned yet?"
"Not yet," replied Lin Lie, who was in charge of affairs.
"That beast Lin Feng! If he ruins my plans, I swear I'll skin him alive," Lin Yun gritted his teeth. Lin Miaomiao was his trump card; based on his years of experience selecting disciples, he believed her potential was unimaginable. This time, she would play a decisive role in suppressing Fei Ze and the other elders.
Lost in thought, the match on the Training Ground concluded with Lin Clan Disciple Lin Hu's defeat. However, Lin Yun did not mind; he had always considered him a mere supporting character.
"Next match: Lin Feng versus Li Qing."
A figure clad in blue swiftly entered the arena—Li Qing. Yet the disciple named Lin Feng had yet to show up.
"Where is Lin Feng of the Lin Family?" the Head Elder asked with dissatisfaction.
As soon as the Head Elder's words fell, countless gazes turned toward where the Lin Clan Disciple should have been standing. Still, no one stepped forward to challenge.
"Elder Lin, where is Lin Feng?" the Head Elder inquired again.
"He... he..." Lin Yun's forehead was sweating as he cursed Lin Feng in his heart hundreds, if not thousands, of times. He awkwardly said, "He just went to the restroom because of a stomach issue; he should be back soon."
Lin Yun was stalling for time with his excuse.
"Enough nonsense. If he doesn't return within ten breaths, it will be considered a forfeit," Head Elder reprimanded.
"Alright, alright," Lin Yun replied with a forced smile.
He looked towards the Mountain Gate, almost straining his eyes in anticipation. However, he was not hoping for Lin Feng's return; to him, Lin Feng was not even worth considering. What he truly hoped for was Lin Miaomiao.
"Lin Miaomiao, you must hurry back. My life and future depend entirely on you," Lin Yun silently prayed.
