Chapter Forty-Eight: Cultivation of Yuan
"Divine Being, carefree and untroubled, naturally embodies the void; Originator, thoughtful and contemplative, possesses spirit yet is not empty..."
Lin Feng immersed himself in the text of Cultivation of Yuan, gradually understanding much. The Foundation Realm is the foundation for cultivation. The Nurturing Origin Realm thoroughly stimulates the potential power within the human body, gathering it into Yuan. In the later stages of cultivation, the Yuan within combines with Divine Consciousness, merging into one to form the Primordial Spirit.
The Primordial Spirit is the fundamental essence that makes the path of a Walker profound and mysterious.
The Nurturing Origin Realm is divided into four levels: initial stage, mid-stage, late stage, and great perfection. Generally, cultivation sects continuously practice through This Sect's Heart Method to enhance their Foundation and strength.
What was recorded was a primitive cultivation method that restrained the advancement of cultivation, suppressing it continuously. Once the Yuan accumulates to its peak, it would break through the shackles of the initial and mid-stages on its own and combine with Divine Consciousness to reach its pinnacle in one go.
As Lin Feng practiced, he discovered that the lotus seed-like Yuan within him began to expel strands of Yuan. These strands slowly gathered together to form a cocoon, wrapping around the Yuan within his Dantian.
"I understand now. Once the power of Yuan accumulates to its utmost, it will naturally break free from its cocoon and combine with Divine Consciousness."
Lin Feng felt a surge of excitement; reaching the Nurturing Origin Realm indeed brought some mysteries to light. He practiced earnestly and found his cultivation speed astonishingly fast.
Earth Qi continuously flowed into his body through every pore. It is known that only upon reaching the Mid-Life Realm can one achieve this. Only upon reaching Fate Realization can one merge with Earth Qi.
Yet Lin Feng was accomplishing what typically required Mid-Life Realm status while still in the Nurturing Origin Realm. As he sat in meditation and observed within himself, he discovered clues.
Since he had Yuan within him, it seemed to merge seamlessly with the Stone Pearl inside him, as if water blended together. The Stone Pearl continuously expelled Chaotic Energy, which entered the Yuan through the cocoon. Consequently, the Yuan required even denser Vital Energy, compelling his body to involuntarily absorb Earth Qi.
Although Lin Feng's cultivation speed could not compare to Miaomiao's at this moment, he was progressing rapidly, surpassing many others.
"I cannot neglect my physical cultivation in my eagerness to break through."
Lin Feng stopped and began to lift the cauldron. According to Master Da, lifting the cauldron a thousand times would allow him to break through to the next Foundation. As Lin Feng lifted the cauldron, he found it easy to surpass a thousand repetitions.
After practicing for a while, he lifted the cauldron again and effortlessly completed another thousand lifts. It felt as if the seal on the Ancient Cauldron had vanished.
Lin Feng pondered carefully and eventually came to a realization.
"The Foundation Realm requires this method to cultivate the physical body. Now that my foundation has reached its peak, I only need to focus on cultivation."
Even so, Lin Feng continued to take Medicinal Baths and consume Beast Cores from fierce beasts to absorb spiritual energy for his physical cultivation, just in case.
Each time he took a Medicinal Bath with a Third-Stage Beast, corresponding images of the fierce beasts would appear above the Ancient Cauldron. This added a certain charm to the otherwise ordinary Ancient Cauldron, though it was very subtle.
"It seems that only higher-level fierce beasts can truly nourish the Ancient Cauldron."
As he progressed in his cultivation, he realized he needed to begin shaping his essence. Solitary Moon City nurtured Sword Essence, while Fire Departure Sect cultivated Fire Element.
"What essence should I cultivate?"
Lin Feng thought carefully but found no answer. He wanted to ask someone but realized there was no one around to inquire. He continued to reflect and recalled his conversations with Sword Saint Senior and Old Spirit Monkey.
"According to Old Spirit Monkey and Sword Saint Senior, my journey seems to have been arranged by Master Da and my second senior brother all along. They must have anticipated that I would reach this point."
"Now, they have made no arrangements for me and haven't provided any Martial Arts Techniques for me to shape my essence. Are they leaving it up to me?"
With this thought, Lin Feng's eyes sparkled as he said, "Yes. They taught me the method of tracing back to the source of cultivation, which is meant to bring me back to the beginning of the Great Dao. After reaching the beginning of the Great Dao, each path diverges; they want me to cultivate my own path."
"So what essence should I cultivate?"
Lin Feng took out everything that Master Da had given him, hoping to find inspiration among them. He scanned the books in his hands but found nothing of value. Finally, his gaze fell upon the Ancient Cauldron.
"The Sword Saint Senior, this Ancient Cauldron is made of Shoushan Copper, a treasure of the earth. Such a rare item, did Master Da give it to me solely for Foundation Establishment and Medicinal Bath purposes? There must be a deeper reason."
"This cauldron has form but is not merely a vessel; since my Medicinal Bath has nourished me, it seems to resonate with me in some way. Then I shall cultivate Ding Yuan."
With his mind made up, Lin Feng continued his cultivation. However, he did not grasp the Martial Arts Technique for Ding Yuan, so he could not immediately transform his essence into the shape of the cauldron and could only explore slowly.
Unbeknownst to Lin Feng, behind him was a majestic eagle about ten feet long. The eagle had been watching Lin Feng and had followed him all the way from Solitary Moon City to this place.
Upon seeing Lin Feng's decision, the eagle revealed an expression of admiration before soaring high into the sky.
As the eagle ascended into the clouds, its form grew larger, and its wings stretched out to over ten feet in length. With a single flap of its wings, it traveled a hundred miles at lightning speed.
Eventually, the eagle pierced through the cloud layer and spotted a suspended Rock Mountain. Standing atop the Rock Mountain was a figure dressed in white robes, with an elegant demeanor and a White Crown atop his head, exuding an extraordinary presence.
The eagle shrank in size and landed on his shoulder, whispering softly in his ear.
Upon hearing this, the man revealed a faint smile and murmured to himself, "As expected from what Senior Brother said; I have indeed been too cautious."
In Yang Prefecture, at the border.
Winter was approaching; the sky was gray and overcast, with a chill in the air. The Border Troops' military camp was draped in mourning cloths, adding to the somber atmosphere.
Half a month ago, the General of the Border Troops had passed away. Tang Jiner had just been transferred to fill the vacancy. Tang Jiner found the circumstances surrounding the former General's death suspicious and had been investigating for half a month. However, not only did he fail to uncover any results, but more people had also died.
Tang Jiner decided to temporarily set aside this case and focus on giving the General a proper burial for peace in death. Today marked the day of the former General's funeral.
Lin Feng arrived at the Border Troops and was summoned for the first time by Tang Jiner.
He was led into Tang Jiner's study by a soldier, where he found her seated at a desk cluttered with documents. Tang Jiner held a pen in one hand, intently reading through the papers, occasionally jotting down notes.
As Lin Feng entered, Tang Jiner glanced up at him before returning her focus to the documents. "You can sit down for now; I'll be done shortly," she said.
"Alright."
Lin Feng casually chose a chair and sat down, idly observing Tang Jiner.
Today, Tang Jiner was not in military attire. She wore a white floral long dress cinched at the waist with a blue ribbon, and a delicate golden hairpin adorned her hair. Her overall appearance was simple yet elegant, pleasing to the eye.
Finally finishing her review of the documents, Tang Jiner stretched and then noticed Lin Feng. "Commander Lin, what brings you here?" she asked.
"Weren't you the one who summoned me?" Lin Feng replied, puzzled.
"Oh right, I almost forgot amidst all the busyness," she said.
Tang Jiner stood up gracefully and walked slowly to Lin Feng's side, taking a seat across from him. "Today is General Qiu's funeral," she stated.
"I am aware," Lin Feng responded, wondering what she was getting at.
"General Qiu was my mentor; he taught me many things," Tang Jiner said, her expression turning nostalgic.
Oh no, Lin Feng thought to himself. She doesn't want me to investigate General Qiu's cause of death, does she?
Tang Jiner looked at Lin Feng again and continued, "Teacher Qiu's death was shrouded in mystery. As his student, I feel guilty about it. Therefore, I would like to ask for your help in uncovering the truth behind General Qiu's death."
Lin Feng's heart skipped a beat; he had indeed guessed correctly. Although he had only recently arrived, he had learned many things. When Tang Jiner first came, the first thing she did was to thoroughly investigate General Qiu's cause of death, resulting in many casualties and leaving the case even more perplexing.
Lin Feng forced a smile and said, "My lord, do you think too highly of me?"
Tang Jiner replied seriously, "Lin Feng, you are different from others. I trust my judgment; you will achieve great things in the future. Moreover, the Border Troops are all spies for the Fire Departure Sect, and only you from Solitary Moon City can be trusted. And among you from Solitary Moon City, you are the only one with a sharp mind."
"So I was chosen," Lin Feng said. Being trusted and appreciated by his superior should have made him happy, but instead, Lin Feng felt a sense of being deceived.
"You must remember to investigate discreetly. If you uncover everything, it will be a great achievement," Tang Jiner advised kindly while also enticing him.
Lin Feng nodded and said, "Understood. I will do my utmost to carry out your orders."
"Lin Feng, work diligently with me in the Border Troops, and I will not treat you unfairly," Tang Jiner said as she patted Lin Feng on the shoulder.
Lin Feng thought to himself, "Since it's an undercover investigation, how I investigate is my own business. It seems that several of my senior brothers from Solitary Moon City met their demise because they were misled in this way."
Knock knock knock...
At that moment, there was a knock on the door, and a servant reported, "My lord, someone has come to pay respects to General Qiu."
"Let them pay their respects; why do they need to report that to me? Can't they handle such a trivial matter?"
"My lord, this person is unusual. You need to receive him personally."
"What kind of person is making such a fuss?"
"His name is Jiang Wannian; it’s similar to Jiang Duzong’s name. I wonder if he is related."
"Fool, who is he?"
Tang Jiner's attendants were all brought by her, so they were not particularly familiar with the figures of the Border Troops. After the attendants left, Tang Jiner muttered to herself, "What is Jiang Wannian doing here at this time?"
Seeing that Tang Jiner was deep in thought, Lin Feng said, "Since you have matters to attend to, I will take my leave."
"Leave? What do you mean leave? You are coming with me today. General Qiu's death may be related to Jiang Wannian; you should take a good look at this person," Tang Jiner replied.
"Understood."
After Lin Feng responded, he hurriedly followed Tang Jiner to the mourning hall.
