Chapter Ninety-Four: Knowing One's Own Warmth and Coldness
Inside the tomb was a vast, spacious secret chamber. The walls were constructed from white stone bricks, giving it an impressive appearance. Within the chamber stood candelabras, but instead of candles, they held fist-sized luminous pearls.
These luminous pearls emitted a soft white light that reflected off the smooth white stone bricks, transforming the chamber into a dreamlike world of white. One could easily forget the presence of the candelabras, the luminous pearls, and the stone bricks, leaving only a blank white space in their mind.
There were not many items in the enormous chamber, but the most eye-catching was a white coffin.
"Another white one," Lin Feng murmured to himself, speculating that the builder of this tomb had a particular fondness for white, or perhaps this woman named Cold Moon had cherished the color in her lifetime.
Lin Feng approached the coffin and was taken aback upon realizing what it was made of.
The entire coffin was carved and polished from a single piece of Essence Stone. Essence Stone was a common yet precious material among Walkers. Even though Lin Feng did not possess an Essence Stone himself, he would not find it particularly rare.
What was remarkable was that this Essence Stone measured two zhang in length, half a zhang in width, and half a zhang in height. Such a large Essence Stone was indeed an extraordinary find.
Inside the Yuan Stone Coffin lay a woman. She wore a white Palace Attire dress that appeared somewhat antiquated, not resembling any contemporary fashion.
Her features were pure and stunning, her brows and eyes like paintings. At first glance, Lin Feng couldn't help but marvel at her beauty.
Miaomiao was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful women in the world, her beauty characterized by her vivacity. In contrast, this woman's beauty exuded grace; her eyes seemed to hold centuries of history within them.
"It seems this person is Cold Moon."
Lin Feng took a step back and respectfully bowed three times to the tomb. After completing his bows, his gaze fell upon an Ancient Wooden Box beside the Yuan Stone Coffin.
The box appeared unremarkable at first glance; however, what made it special was that it contained a Purple Dress inside.
“Miaomiao loves purple the most. If I give her this dress, she would surely be delighted. It can be considered a meeting gift.”
Lin Feng thought to himself as he bent down to pick up the Purple Dress, preparing to shake it out and see what style it was. Just as he reached for it, footsteps echoed in the secret chamber.
“Who’s there?”
Lin Feng's heart raced with caution as he quickly stood up and looked toward the sound.
A handsome young man dressed in an Ancient Robe walked slowly toward him. This man had white hair and a youthful face, with delicate and classical features that exuded an ancient charm. The Moon City Sword floated beside him, seemingly very close to him.
The man glanced at Lin Feng and said, “Upon seeing the Founder, shouldn’t you bow?”
After speaking, the man did not look at Lin Feng again but walked straight to the Yuan Stone Coffin, gazing tenderly at the person inside. “Moon, we meet again.”
Seeing the intimacy between the Moon City Sword and this man, Lin Feng speculated about his identity. He bowed respectfully and said, “Disciple Lin Feng pays respects to the Founder.”
The man seemed not to have heard Lin Feng's words and continued to focus on the woman in the coffin, unable to resist reaching out his right hand to caress the surface of the coffin. Time passed without him noticing; perhaps he felt that he had looked long enough to ease his longing. Only then did he withdraw his gaze and turn it toward Lin Feng.
Lin Feng remained in a bowing position, head lowered in great respect.
The man nodded slightly, appearing somewhat satisfied. He slowly spoke, “Which generation disciple are you?”
“Disciple…” Lin Feng wanted to state which generation disciple he was of Solitary Moon City but suddenly realized he didn’t know. After hesitating for a moment, he finally said, “I am a disciple under Sovereign Sword Saint Lin Bai.”
“Lin Bai?”
The man pondered for a moment before shaking his head. “I haven’t heard that name; perhaps it has been several generations since I last knew anyone. I vaguely remember that my attendant once had the surname Lin; his name was Lin Mu.”
"Reporting to you, Senior, although I am a disciple of the Lone Moon Sect and have met Sovereign Lin Bai, I know very little about the matters of Solitary Moon City."
Lin Feng revealed an awkward smile. He had just entered the Inner Sect of Solitary Moon City and was immediately dispatched to the outskirts, leaving him completely uninformed about various affairs in Solitary Moon City.
Otherwise, how could he not know who Lin Mu was?
Lin Feng recounted his experiences from entering the Moon City to how he fell into the Cloud Sea, and how he was brought here under the guidance of the Moon City Sword.
Listening to Lin Feng's narration, the man seemed to be speaking to himself. "I remember when I first arrived at Solitary Mountain, it was a desolate place. I found it tranquil and chose a peak for seclusion. Later, with nothing much to do, I took in a book boy named Lin Mu, and gradually established a sect."
"At that time, I hadn't heard of any Fire Departure Sect or Flowing Cloud Sect."
Upon hearing this, it confirmed that this person was indeed the Founder of Solitary Moon City. Even though Lin Feng had guessed it beforehand, he was still shocked. He suppressed his astonishment and replied, "Perhaps these two sects were established after the Founder left."
The man suddenly recalled something. "When I left Solitary Mountain, a figure came to Solitary Mountain; I think they were called Fire Ancestor. Perhaps the Fire Departure Sect was founded by him."
"And as for Flowing Cloud Sect, I have no impression of it at all."
The man seemed to have stayed in this tomb for too long and felt stifled. Now that he had found someone to talk to, he chatted casually and freely.
When Lin Feng mentioned that before entering the tomb, he encountered Four Black-Robed Figures and had a fierce battle with them, the man showed a hint of disgust. "They really are persistent spirits."
"They come from the Ghost Realm."
"The origins of the Ghost Realm are unclear; all I know is that it is related to the underworld. The people from the Ghost Realm love to do two things: one is to search for the tombs of past strong figures and take their corpses to create corpse soldiers. The second is to seek out places of inheritance from past strong figures and devour their souls."
"To avoid drawing attention, I opened up a space within a stone tablet in the River of the Underworld and built this tomb. I never expected they would eventually find it. It seems we cannot stay here for long."
Hearing this, Lin Feng's eyes lit up. "Is the Founder planning to return to Solitary Moon City?"
The man shook his head slightly. "What you see before you is not my true self, but a fragment of my Divine Consciousness. My true self has gone to an unknown secret realm in search of a way to save my beloved wife. I have lost contact with my true self."
Lin Feng recalled that when a Walker reached the pinnacle of their cultivation, they could create avatars and even manifest substantial duplicates. Seeing it for the first time today felt somewhat mystical. Suddenly, Lin Feng thought of something and said, "I have heard that the Yunlu Xian Sect's Holy Art is astonishing; it can bring back the dead. Have you sought their help?"
"The Holy Art of the Yunlu Xian Sect is indeed profound and unfathomable. However, if a person has truly died, their soul dissipated and entered reincarnation, it becomes a matter beyond their reach. To bring someone back to life is akin to stealing life itself. This is not something the Holy Art of the Yunlu Xian Sect can accomplish," the man replied.
Upon hearing this, Lin Feng suddenly thought of Tang Jiner. He took out the Ancient Cauldron and pointed at Tang Jiner inside it. "May I ask, senior, is my friend truly dead? Can she be revived using the Holy Art of the Yunlu Xian Sect?"
The man's gaze swept over Tang Jiner, and he understood everything at once. "This woman was killed, and her soul is bound by the Yunlu Xian Sect's spirit-replenishing technique. If she returns to the Yunlu Xian Sect, a strong practitioner at the Cave Profound Realm should be able to revive her."
"Thank you for your guidance," Lin Feng said, feeling a surge of joy in his heart.
The man continued, "Unfortunately, before this woman could be revived using the spirit-replenishing technique at the Yunlu Xian Sect, she forcefully burned one soul and one spirit to activate a royal family's forbidden secret method. Losing one soul and one spirit counts as being half truly dead; thus, there is only a fifty percent chance of revival."
Lin Feng's heart suddenly sank as he recalled Tang Jiner's last words.
"I am already dead; relying on secret methods to burn one soul and one spirit, waiting for you to come. I knew you would definitely come."
"Li, do you know? Unknowingly, I found that I have..."
"Fool, hold me tight; I'm so cold..."
She burned one soul and one spirit because she firmly believed I would return to save her. Because she wanted to see me one last time. Because she wanted to share her final thoughts with me. Yet in the end, her last words remained unfinished.
Thinking of this made Lin Feng's emotions incredibly complex.
"Why are you so sure that I would come to save you?"
Lin Feng smiled bitterly, unsure of the reason behind it. It wasn't that he truly didn't know, but rather that he was unwilling to delve deeper into his thoughts. Right now, all he wanted to do was take Tang Jiner out of here; the rest would be left to the Yunlu Xian Sect.
"My lord, I fought my way through countless enemies and saved you. Your kindness in recognizing me and your loyalty, I, Lin Feng, can at least repay a little."
"I will sincerely pray that you wake up and live well. As for whether that wish comes true, it depends on fate and how skilled the Holy Art of the Yunlu Xian Sect is. As for me, Lin Feng, I am powerless."
"My lord, if someone I love were to die, I would search for every possible way to bring her back, just like the Founder, until I grow old and die."
"My lord, I already have such a person in my heart."
"My lord, I will ensure your safe passage to the Yunlu Xian Sect, and from then on, I will have no regrets towards you. This is all I can do for you; this is where my ability ends."
"My lord, I sincerely hope you can live well."
