Chapter 107: Three Women
Stepping out of Taihe Hall, Lin Feng felt a sense of lightness.
Throughout the entire time, Tang Jiner had not glanced at him. Lin Feng felt a bit displeased, but as he walked out of the grand hall and into the glaring sunlight, he found himself feeling much more at ease.
The past, along with that heavy snowfall, was buried away; today, the sun shone brightly, melting the snow and allowing everything to start anew.
"Lin Feng, what's wrong? You've been distracted all day," Lin Miaomiao asked.
Lin Feng smiled and replied, "It's nothing. The teleportation array won't open until evening; let's go back and rest for a bit."
"Alright," Lin Miaomiao responded. Since Lin Feng didn't want to elaborate, she chose not to press further.
The two walked down the steps toward the palace gate. Before long, a soft and melodious voice called out from behind, "Lin Feng."
Lin Feng stopped and turned around to see Mo Mo approaching slowly.
Lin Feng smiled and said, "Ah, Miss Mo, it's good to see you."
"I have something I want to discuss with you. May I have a moment?" Mo Mo asked.
Lin Feng didn't want to avoid Miaomiao, so he replied, "This is my junior sister; she's not an outsider."
"There are some things that aren't convenient to discuss in front of her," Mo Mo said, not even glancing at Miaomiao.
"Lin Feng, I'm going to browse around over there; you two can talk," Miaomiao said before Lin Feng could respond and walked away on her own.
Only then did Mo Mo turn her attention to Lin Miaomiao and couldn't help but frown as she said, "At such a young age, even with a master’s protection, one shouldn't flaunt in Holy Armor like this."
Lin Feng noticed Mo Mo's dislike for Miaomiao. Feeling somewhat displeased, he said, "Miss Mo, Lin Miaomiao is my girlfriend. If you have any objections to her, please keep them to yourself. I would prefer not to hear them."
"What does it matter if I tell you? Are you going to fight me on her behalf?" Mo Mo looked at Lin Feng quietly, as if challenging him.
Lin Feng replied in a low voice, "What do you want from me?"
"It's about adult matters. It seems you don't want to listen, nor do you need to," she said.
Mo Mo became somewhat angry and turned to leave.
Watching her act out for no apparent reason, Lin Feng really didn't want to engage with her. He let her go, but she had mentioned Tang Jiner. Lin Feng felt a stir of curiosity. He wanted to know why Tang Jiner was ignoring him. A simple greeting would be better than the current situation.
Lin Feng chased after her and managed to calm his inner anger as he asked, "What's wrong with the General?"
"What's this? You actually care about adults now?" Mo Mo still wore a dissatisfied expression.
"Why are you so stubborn?" Lin Feng sighed and said helplessly, "The General has treated me well and has shown me kindness. Naturally, I think of her."
"Is that all the General means to you?" Mo Mo looked at Lin Feng seriously and asked.
"Miss Mo, what do you want?" Lin Feng began to feel impatient.
Mo Mo turned her head and looked at Lin Miaomiao in the distance. After a moment of silence, she said, "Your troubled heart is something only you understand regarding how the General feels about you."
"To be honest, although my sect leader personally took action and exhausted the precious Twin Flowers to bring the General back to life, her memories and personality need time to recover."
"So you're saying that her lack of memory regarding me is temporary? That's why she hasn't even glanced at me until now?" Lin Feng immediately asked.
"Yes, it can be done. However, due to the fact that the adult has exhausted one soul and one spirit during her lifetime, some memories will be permanently lost. Unfortunately, what will be lost is the journey to the borderlands."
"What? Then she will never remember me? No wonder she hasn't even glanced at me!" Lin Feng murmured.
"What's wrong? Do you want the adult to remember you?" Mo Mo asked, looking at Lin Feng in response.
Lin Feng hesitated, then finally forced a smile and said, "It's fine this way. I saved her life; that counts as repaying her kindness in recognizing me. What happens in the future... well, that's a matter for later."
"It seems you have deep feelings for Miss Lin," Mo Mo said, frowning slightly. After a moment of silence, she continued, "The adult has just awakened and cannot be stimulated. I came to tell you not to mention the journey to the borderlands in front of her."
"I understand. Don't worry, Miss Mo," Lin Feng replied.
"That's good to hear. Farewell."
Just as Mo Mo was about to leave, Tang Jiner happened to walk over, smiling gracefully as she said, "Sister Mo, I've been looking for you everywhere. What are you doing here?"
"I was catching up with a friend," Mo Mo replied.
"Oh? Anyone whom Sister Mo calls a friend must be extraordinary. Who is it? Introduce me," Tang Jiner said as she approached Lin Feng.
She fixed her gaze on Lin Feng, and he looked back at her; their eyes met and froze for a moment.
In that instant, Lin Feng couldn't deny the fluttering in his heart.
Frowning, he turned his head away, pretending to admire the scenery of the imperial city.
At that moment, Tang Jiner felt as if something had drawn her in, causing her to momentarily forget herself.
Tang Jiner's face flushed slightly, and she couldn't help but lower her head, revealing a shy expression.
"This person is indeed somewhat extraordinary, but I wonder how long he can be a friend," Mo Mo said as she glanced at Lin Feng.
Tang Jiner raised her head and said, "Sister Mo, your words are strange. Is this person your friend? What is his ranking on the monument? With your discerning eye, he must be at least in the top five to catch your attention."
Not far away, Lin Miaomiao was wandering around, feeling bored. She noticed that Mo Mo was looking at Lin Feng with an unusual gaze, seemingly hiding some emotions.
Several times, Lin Miaomiao couldn't help but want to approach them, but she held back. Now seeing Princess Jian'an moving closer, Lin Miaomiao finally spoke to Lin Feng, "Lin Feng, have you finished talking? I'm a bit hungry and want to go home to eat something."
Lin Feng bid farewell to the two of them, saying, "I am just an unknown soldier; my name is not on the monument. Sorry, I have important matters to attend to. Farewell."
Tang Jiner also heard Lin Miaomiao's words and knew that she was a rare Ethereal Body with a heart of steel. She then said, "I have some excellent dishes at my residence. If Miss Lin doesn't mind, why not come to my house?"
As they continued speaking, Tang Jiner looked at Lin Miaomiao and deliberately raised her voice so that Lin Miaomiao could hear.
"Let's not. I'll just take my junior sister to eat something," Lin Feng replied.
"Why not?"
Lin Miaomiao took a few steps forward and looked at Tang Jiner. "Since the princess has invited us, refusing would be disrespectful. Lin Feng, you should agree."
After saying this, Lin Miaomiao turned to look at Lin Feng. He felt that Miaomiao's gaze was somewhat strange and made him uncomfortable. If they entered Tang Jiner's residence, wouldn't things get messy?
Lin Feng immediately said, "Miaomiao, the Princess Mansion is lively and crowded. And you prefer peace and quiet; I think it might not be suitable."
Mo Mo listened to this and immediately replied, "Coincidentally, the princess's residence is indeed a quiet place. As for the reason it's quiet, I think you should know."
"Oh, really?"
Lin Miaomiao smiled with some interest and said, "Lin Feng, since you know that the Princess Mansion is quiet, why do you still say it's lively? Are you deliberately preventing me from going?"
Mo Mo is being intentional, Lin Feng cursed inwardly, then smiled and explained, "How would I know? I've never been to the Princess Mansion."
Tang Jiner felt as if there were hidden meanings in their words and frowned, saying, "What are you two talking about? I don't understand a word!"
Lin Miaomiao didn't waste any more time and said, "Princess, please lead the way."
The four of them—three girls and one boy—set off. Lin Feng obediently fell to the back, allowing the three girls to chat among themselves. As he watched them become more and more engrossed in conversation, Lin Feng felt increasingly uneasy.
The Princess Mansion was elegantly decorated and indeed looked quiet; there weren't many maids in the residence. Perhaps it was arranged by the Emperor considering the Princess had just recovered from a serious illness.
The Princess had some delicacies brought to a pavilion by the Lotus Pond. Then she invited Mo Mo, Lin Miaomiao, and Lin Feng to sit in the pavilion to eat and chat.
Tang Jiner spoke up, "Miaomiao, I feel we have similar interests. If you're willing, I would like to become sworn sisters with you. What do you think?"
"Ah? This..." Lin Miaomiao felt caught off guard; after all, Tang Jiner's status was too noble.
"What's wrong? Is Miaomiao unwilling? Or do you look down on me and the Princess?" Mo Mo interjected.
Lin Miaomiao quickly waved her hands and said, "No, no! I just didn't expect that the esteemed Princess of the Tang Empire would want to become sworn sisters with me. I didn't react in time."
After talking a lot with Lin Miaomiao, Mo Mo was influenced by her genuine nature and let go of her preconceived notions. "The Princess is actually a straightforward person. When she first suggested becoming sworn sisters with me, I was just as stunned as you are now."
Seeing that Lin Miaomiao showed no signs of opposition, Tang Jiner said, "Then that means you agree. From today onward, I, Mo Mo, and you, Lin Miaomiao, will be sisters. We will share blessings and joys together from now on."
Tang Jiner poured a glass of fruit wine and said, "Come, let’s raise a toast to celebrate."
"If I refuse now, it would be quite rude. Cheers," Miaomiao also lifted her glass.
Lin Feng understood that when women found common ground, their conversations could go on endlessly. Meanwhile, he felt completely ignored by the three of them.
With a helpless sigh, Lin Feng decided to take his leave. What frustrated him even more was that as he stood up to leave, none of the three beauties looked at him or bid him farewell.
Even more infuriating was that as soon as he got up, they immediately spread out and took over his previous spot.
"Don't think you're the only ones with friends. I, Lin Feng, will go find my own friends," he huffed coldly before turning to leave. (To be continued)
