Chapter 108: Miss Magenta
Tang Jiner, Mo Mo, and Lin Miaomiao watched as Lin Feng left in a huff, unable to suppress their laughter.
“Miaomiao, we seem to have upset your senior brother; he looks quite angry,” Tang Jiner remarked.
Lin Miaomiao gazed at Lin Feng's disappearing figure and said, “He’s not really that angry; he just likes to show off a bit and talk back.”
“You seem to know him well. How long have you known each other?” Tang Jiner asked.
“We used to live in the same village.”
“Doesn’t that mean you were childhood friends?” Mo Mo chimed in, recognizing the sincerity and preciousness of such a bond.
“However, being from the same village and sharing the same surname makes it a bit inconvenient for you both to be together,” Tang Jiner pondered aloud.
Lin Miaomiao smiled and replied, “I’m not truly from Qingshan Town; I was adopted by my father. We just share the same surname, and there are no other issues.”
Mo Mo added, “But if others find out, some bored individuals might start gossiping.”
Lin Miaomiao appeared unconcerned. “Lin Feng and I only care about what those we care about think. Those who matter will naturally understand the significance of our relationship. Just like you two sisters; now that you know the truth, you won’t have any strange thoughts about it.”
“Of course. Miaomiao is carefree and unrestrained by nature, somewhat like me,” Tang Jiner said earnestly.
“Thank you, Jin'er sister.”
Tang Jiner suddenly sighed. “To be honest, I also have a childhood friend similar to yours. His name is Sima Shangshan. He’s from Flowing Cloud Sect. He has been pursuing me for a while now; our parents are familiar with each other and hope for us to be together. But when I’m with him, I feel it lacks the trust and joy that exists between you two.”
Lin Miaomiao responded, “I’ve heard Lin Feng mention him. He’s loyal and values friendship—a rare kind of friend. I’ve visited Sima Mansion and met him. He seems to listen to his elders quite a bit, which makes him somewhat reserved and awkward.”
“Unlike Lin Feng, who doesn’t respect the old or love the young, he’s free-spirited and unconventional. He occasionally has thoughts and actions that are quite different from others,” Miaomiao added thoughtfully.
“Enough of that.” Tang Jiner looked at Lin Miaomiao's Purple Jade Glass Skirt in astonishment. “Is that Holy Armor you’re wearing?”
"What's this Holy Armor? Is it this Purple Jade Glass Skirt of yours?" Lin Miaomiao shook her head.
Upon hearing "Purple Jade Glass Skirt," Tang Jiner nodded in certainty. "That's it. It's said that your founder, Lin Cheng, crafted a Holy Armor called the Purple Jade Glass Skirt when establishing Solitary Moon City. Didn't you know?"
Lin Miaomiao looked innocent. "I really didn't know. This dress was brought back by Lin Feng during his travels to the frontier. I knew it was extraordinary, but I had no idea what a Holy Armor was."
Suddenly, Lin Miaomiao recalled what Lin Feng had mentioned about Xuanjia. She couldn't help but add, "Could it be that Holy Armor is a type of Xuanjia close to the level of a Sacred Artifact?"
"Miaomiao, you're indeed clever and quick to understand. Holy Armor is a treasure of any sect. Even among other sects, our Tang Empire only possesses two pieces of Holy Armor—one belonging to my father and the other to my mother. You can imagine how precious it is," Tang Jiner said enviously.
Lin Miaomiao realized, "So that's why. No wonder when Lin Feng and I were ambushed that day; it was because of this dress. It seems I can't wear it anymore."
Thinking about the dress Lin Feng had gifted her, she felt a bit regretful that she couldn't wear it often.
Tang Jiner sighed with envy, "Lin Feng treats you so well. Holy Armor is made from countless precious materials, and gathering enough materials is quite difficult; it often requires a stroke of luck. It’s said that crafting one piece of Holy Armor takes at least a century. You really should keep it safe, Miaomiao. If other ladies in the palace see it, they'll be envious. If you go to Zhongzhou and the noblewomen of the Great Zhou Empire see it, they might resort to theft."
"I'm fortunate to learn this from you today, Jin'er sister. Otherwise, if I went to Zhongzhou, I'd be attacked daily without even knowing why," Lin Miaomiao expressed her gratitude.
"We're sisters; there's no need for formality," Tang Jiner smiled.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng wandered alone in the Princess Mansion, feeling bored. The vast mansion felt eerily quiet without seeing anyone for a long time.
Eventually, Lin Feng stepped out of the Princess Mansion and strolled through the palace grounds. As he walked, he suddenly sensed someone behind him. He pretended not to notice and quickened his pace.
The person behind him also quickened their steps to follow.
Lin Feng had no choice but to turn around and found a beautiful and demure girl standing before him. She wore a red dress, slightly bowing her head with her hands clasped in front of her, looking somewhat shy.
"Why are you following me?" Lin Feng asked.
The girl lifted her head, revealing her youthful and lovely face—she appeared no older than fourteen. What stood out most was a red flower between her brows.
Lin Feng recalled the women of the Red Flower Palace during his pilgrimage and asked, "Are you from the Red Flower Palace?"
"Yes," the woman replied, lowering her head shyly to look at her toes.
"Why are you following me?" Lin Feng inquired again.
The woman said, "Since you know that Magenta is from the Red Flower Palace, why ask? Are you trying to embarrass Magenta on purpose?"
Hearing this, Lin Feng couldn't help but laugh. "Miss, it sounds like I have no idea what’s going on. What exactly is wrong with your people from the Red Flower Palace?"
"Are you deliberately making things difficult for Magenta and treating her lightly?" The woman trembled slightly, tears streaming down her face.
Seeing this girl who called herself Magenta suddenly cry, Lin Feng quickly looked around to ensure no one was watching. He said, "Magenta, why are you crying all of a sudden? If others see this, they might think I’m bullying you."
"Isn't it bullying when you treat Magenta so lightly?" the woman sobbed.
"Where is this coming from?" Lin Feng was confused.
After some questioning, Lin Feng finally understood everything.
The Red Flower Palace was a sect in the western region of Jizhou and was considered quite powerful within Jizhou. It was the second-largest sect in Jizhou but had a significant gap compared to the Yunlu Xian Sect in that area.
The Red Flower Palace could be described as an unusual sect; all its members were women who practiced dual cultivation Martial Arts Techniques. The palace rules stated that a woman's strength did not come from her own power but rather from her support system—namely, men.
Thus, the strength of the Red Flower Palace was not top-tier in the Jiuzhou Continent, falling short of the Fire Departure Sect and Flowing Cloud Sect in Yang Prefecture. However, no one in Jiuzhou Continent dared to underestimate the Red Flower Palace due to their numerous powerful connections and widespread reputation.
With the Jiuzhou Gathering Conference approaching, it was time for new disciples of the Red Flower Palace to seek out their support systems and dual cultivation partners. Their targets were always those renowned talents listed on various monuments.
Since women from the Red Flower Palace never pursued lasting romantic relationships nor required their supporters to be devoted for life, they were quite popular among men in Jiuzhou Continent.
Of course, while women from the Red Flower Palace were welcomed by male cultivators in Jiuzhou Continent, they were often despised by female cultivators.
Magenta chose Lin Feng, wholeheartedly pursuing a dual cultivation with her. Lin Feng, however, was unaware of this. He repeatedly questioned Magenta about her intentions in following him. For Magenta, it was a deliberate act of humiliation, as she knew he was feigning ignorance.
After learning everything, Lin Feng felt that the world was indeed full of wonders.
"Miss Magenta, thank you for taking an interest in me. But I have no ranking on the stele. Why would you choose me?" Lin Feng asked, puzzled.
Seeing Lin Feng being somewhat polite, Magenta finally stopped crying and lifted her head. With a pitiful expression, she said, "To be honest, before setting out, my master predicted that the most outstanding individual at this Jiuzhou Gathering Conference would come from Solitary Moon City. That is why I noticed you."
"There are three disciples from Solitary Moon City. My senior brother Lu Wushuang ranks above me; why not choose him?" Lin Feng inquired further.
"Young Master Lu's ranking on the stele is low. Once there is a ranking, one's strength is essentially revealed. You, on the other hand, are unranked, which leaves room for uncertainty. My master has a peculiar identity and does not belong to the earthly realm. To predict your fate, my master exhausted several centuries of lifespan. With such a sacrifice from my master, how could I let her down? Please agree to fulfill this," Magenta said, clasping her hands together and bowing respectfully.
"Miss Magenta, first of all, thank you for trusting me so much. However, I must ask you to seek another target because what we have between us is simply impossible," Lin Feng replied as he turned to leave.
Magenta stepped in front of Lin Feng with a look of grievance and said, "Do you think I am not as charming as the other senior sisters? Young Master, although I may not appear as alluring as them, we all practice the same secret techniques and I won’t let you down..."
Her face grew redder as her voice became softer towards the end.
Lin Feng was not foolish; after learning about the true nature of the Red Flower Palace and recalling Ji Meng's allure that day, he understood what Magenta meant.
"Miss Magenta, you misunderstand. Whether your senior sister is enchanting or you are shy has nothing to do with me. My inability stems from my own reasons," Lin Feng stated seriously.
"Oh? Is there something wrong with your body? Do not worry; I have practiced secret techniques that can help resolve any physical issues," Magenta replied shyly, lowering her head even more.
Lin Feng smiled wryly; what was this conversation turning into? He said, "I have someone I care about."
"My master taught us that we do not seek to be together in life or death. As long as you hold a place for me in your heart—even if it's just a tiny bit—I would be grateful," Magenta continued, seemingly struggling to say these words as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
"I'm sorry; I just can't understand this. You should find someone else," Lin Feng said.
“Master... do you look down on me?” Magenta began to sob again.
“No, no…”
Lin Feng furrowed his brow, not expecting such a situation to arise. He looked at Magenta with a hint of kindness, not wanting to hurt her pride. With no other choice, Lin Feng resorted to Telekinesis, taking advantage of Magenta's daze to make a hasty escape.
Under the influence of the telekinetic attack, Magenta felt dizzy. When she regained her senses, she realized Lin Feng was nowhere to be found.
“Master, Master…”
Magenta searched frantically for Lin Feng, her face filled with anxiety and sorrow, looking utterly pitiful. (To be continued)
