Chapter 11: Too Much Wind and Rain
Cold Rain became the youngest Governor in the history of the Great Zhou Empire. Her cultivation had reached the peak of the Enlightenment Realm, earning her the title of Cold Master.
Her every word and action resembled that of a refined lady, yet she was a cold-blooded Governor devoted wholeheartedly to serving the Martial Emperor.
In her early years, Cold Rain's uncle, Leng Wang, was one of the Divine Generals of the Great Zhou. He was apprehended for privately selling the Great Zhou's Xuanjia. Following the Martial Emperor's orders, Cold Commander thoroughly investigated and traced the matter back to Leng Wang. Without hesitation, Cold Rain captured him and ultimately executed him publicly.
This ruthless approach of Cold Rain towards her own kin stemmed from that incident.
To seek connections and extract Lin Feng from such a person was indeed a fool's dream.
Lin Miaomiao wore a worried expression all day, contemplating various ways to rescue Lin Feng. She sought out Tu Yu, but upon hearing the name "Cold Rain," Tu Yu recoiled as if he had seen a ghost.
As for finding Tang Jiner, Tu Yu could only uncover some traces of Huo Zhenshan. It seemed that Tang Jiner had vanished without a trace in Gaojing.
The Great Zhou Martial Emperor took the sudden disappearance of Princess Jian'an from Tang Kingdom very seriously and ordered a citywide lockdown to search for her.
Feeling helpless, Lin Miaomiao ultimately decided to visit Azure Cloud Sect to seek help from He Rongsheng.
He Rongsheng never expected Lin Miaomiao would come to visit him; he immediately went out to greet her with a sunny smile.
"Miaomiao, you..."
"Please call me Lin Miaomiao, thank you." Lin Miaomiao interrupted He Rongsheng as soon as he opened his mouth.
He Rongsheng smiled helplessly and said, "Alright. What brings you here today..."
"Young Master He, I have something to ask of you." Lin Miaomiao once again cut off He Rongsheng's words, feeling extremely anxious and unwilling to waste any more time.
"You can count on me as long as I can do it," He Rongsheng said readily.
"Lin Feng has been imprisoned by the Governor. I implore Young Master He to find a way to rescue him," Lin Miaomiao said.
"The Governor?"
He Rongsheng repeated the two words that had caused headaches for everyone in Gaojing Walker, then asked, "How did Lin Feng get captured by the Governor's men? Who gave the order?"
"Cold Rain," Lin Miaomiao replied.
"It's her?"
He Rongsheng's tone rose, as if those two words were even more frightening than 'Governor.'
Lin Miaomiao asked, "I heard that Cold Rain is from Azure Cloud Sect. Do you have any way to help?"
He Rongsheng showed a troubled expression. After pondering for a moment, he said, "Lin Miaomiao, if it were anyone else asking this, I would refuse outright. But since it's you, I can ask my father for help."
"Thank you, Young Master He." Finally seeing some hope, Lin Miaomiao expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
He Rongsheng shifted his tone and added, "However, I can't guarantee that my father or master will be willing to help."
"As long as you are willing to assist, I will be immensely grateful."
"Lin Miaomiao, is he really worth all this trouble for you?" Seeing Lin Miaomiao's anxious expression made He Rongsheng feel somewhat displeased. If only Lin Miaomiao cared for him like that.
"Young Master He, I apologize for disturbing you today. If there is any news, please inform me at the earliest opportunity." With that, Lin Miaomiao turned to leave.
He Rongsheng watched as Lin Miaomiao made a rare visit and called out to her, "Lin Miaomiao, where are you rushing off to? Why not sit down and have a cup of tea? I'll notify my father shortly."
"No, I still need to think of another way. If there’s any news, make sure to inform me."
He Rongsheng watched Lin Miaomiao leave without looking back, feeling both angry and frustrated. "Lin Feng, you treat Miaomiao like a servant. You make her toil and suffer for you. What right do you have to possess her? I, He Rongsheng, vow here that I will take Miaomiao away from you. Only I can give her a happy and carefree life."
In the western suburbs of Gaojing, there was an ordinary courtyard.
Under a dense grape trellis, there was a rattan chair. An old man lay on the chair, gently swaying and resting his eyes.
A middle-aged man in a blue long robe knelt respectfully on the ground, his head bowed in silence.
The old man sighed deeply and then opened his eyes. He did not rise but continued to lie on the rattan chair as he slowly spoke, "Last night's assassination involved three Initial Stage of Enlightenment cultivators, none of whom survived. Yet Tu Yu and that noodle seller are still alive. This time, as one of the upper echelons of Gaojing, we not only lost the Qingshan Gang but also lost face in front of other upper echelons in Gaojing."
"I failed to consider everything thoroughly; I deserve death. Please punish me, General," the middle-aged man said.
"You truly deserve death. How could you act without clarifying the upper echelon of the Flying Fish Gang? You've cost me several capable generals," the old man reprimanded sternly.
In Gaojing, and even in the Cultivation World of Jiuzhou Continent, Fate Realization is a watershed moment. The proportion of cultivators who break through Fate to reach Enlightenment is quite small among all cultivators. Each Initial Stage Enlightenment cultivator is a valuable asset.
Sensing the coldness in the old man's tone, the middle-aged man hesitated for a moment before finally raising his hands to gather a large amount of Vital Energy and then closed his eyes.
He controlled his hands to strike his own head. A cultivator's head is where the Sea of Consciousness resides. If the Sea of Consciousness is destroyed, even if one does not die, they will become a lifelong cripple.
Just as the middle-aged man's hands were about to strike his head, the old man waved his sleeve, and a powerful gust of Vital Energy swept through, lifting the middle-aged man into the air.
The middle-aged man spun in mid-air before landing on the ground with a puzzled expression as he looked at the old man.
"Three people have already died; no more should perish."
This statement from the old man served as a reassurance for the middle-aged man. The old man sighed again and said, "I never expected that the upper echelon of the Flying Fish Gang would be the Guan Family. Interesting, interesting. It seems we did not lose this battle unjustly."
“General, what should we do? Should we continue to send people to kill Tu Yu and wipe out the Flying Fish Gang?” the middle-aged man asked.
“Declare war on Master Guan? You wouldn’t have enough heads in ten generations for that. How can you be so foolish?” the old man replied angrily.
“Please enlighten me, General.” The middle-aged man was drenched in cold sweat, soaking his undergarments.
“Since the Flying Fish Gang is a subordinate of the Guan Family, we should show some respect and give the Guan Family face. However, the one selling noodles and everyone in that noodle shop must die. Otherwise, in Gaojing, everyone will think we are easy to bully. Who would want to be my subordinate and serve me then?” The old man spoke calmly, as if it were a trivial matter.
The middle-aged man said, “Reporting to the General, the one selling noodles has been captured by Cold Commander.”
“Oh?”
The old man was somewhat surprised and sat up straight. His expression shifted slightly as he said, “Anyone who catches Cold Rain’s attention must have an extraordinary background. What crime has this person committed? What is his background?”
The middle-aged man replied, “The eldest disciple of Yangzhou Liuyun Sect was killed last night, and it is rumored to be related to this person.”
“So it’s a matter of etiquette between nations. Wait a few days until that person comes out, then eliminate him along with the others in the noodle shop. If you fail again this time, don’t bother coming back to see me.”
“Yes, General.” The middle-aged man responded respectfully.
In Gaojing, at the Medicine King Pavilion.
Wherever there are Walkers, there is a Medicine King Pavilion. The Medicine King Pavilion in Gaojing is naturally more magnificent. The pavilions stretch across the area, with the tallest one having seven stories—just one story shorter than the eight-story Eternal Life Palace within Gaojing Imperial Palace.
In all of Gaojing, there are only a handful of seven-story pavilions.
An old man holding a bamboo staff walked through the winding corridors, followed by two handsome young men who kept pace without hurry.
Finally, the old man led them to a grove of High-Quality Bamboo. He began to chant softly, and the green bamboo forest seemed to come alive, swaying gently.
Soon, some High-Quality Bamboo parted, revealing a faintly glowing door before the three of them.
"Sister Qi, please," the elder said politely.
"Thank you, Bamboo Elder, for guiding us," the handsome figure replied, though dressed as a man, the voice was melodious and distinctly feminine.
Inside the door lay another world. There was a Lotus Pond, with pavilions and a Rockery above the flower pool. On one side of the Rockery stood a city wall, while on the other was a three-story loft.
The handsome figure entered the loft and saw a woman dressed in a black gown.
In the realm of Walkers, it was rare to see women in black attire. Yet this woman exuded an aura of tranquility, like the night illuminated by moonlight.
Seemingly unanchored yet possessing a presence, she added a unique flavor to the atmosphere.
Before the woman in black was an ancient incense burner, beside which a maid was tending to it. The fragrant smoke curled around her, making her appear somewhat mysterious.
The woman in black rose and slightly bowed to the handsome figure, saying, "Master Qi, I apologize for not welcoming you properly."
"The Guan Family need not be so formal," Qi Wan'er, the eldest disciple of Qijian Pavilion, returned the greeting.
Once both parties were seated, Qi Wan'er got straight to the point: "Not long ago, my junior brother Qi Si was captured by Cold Rain. I believe the Guan Family has already heard about this matter."
The Guan Family nodded slightly. "We have heard some rumors."
"It is well known that I, as a Disciple of the Qi Sword Pavilion, have come to Gaojing. However, few know our true purpose for being here. Surely the Guan Family does not share the foolish notion that we have returned to assassinate the Martial Emperor and seek revenge for Qi State?" Qi Wan'er continued.
The Guan Family dismissed those present and replied, "I truly do not know your purpose for coming to Gaojing."
Qi Wan'er’s expression turned cold as she said, "Cold Rain leads several Governors and Elders across the nine provinces in pursuit of my fellow disciples and me. Coming to Gaojing is undoubtedly walking into a trap. Yet we fear neither life nor death; we have come because there is something here more important than our lives."
"What is it?" the Guan Family asked with great interest.
"The only secret realm left by Shishu."
The Guan Family, who had been quiet, couldn't help but tremble slightly at the mention of 'Shishu.'
Shishu is not just a title; it is a name. In the Jiuzhou Continent, he is the only one known by that name. It is not because he hails from the Divine Ruins, nor because he is a disciple of Market.
The sole reason is that he is a prodigy in cultivation. A talent so exceptional that even Market cannot compare.
Shishu is known for his combat prowess, rumored to be undefeated across Jiuzhou, before eventually disappearing without a trace. Some say he has perished in the heavens, while others believe he still fights among the clouds.
The only secret realm left by Shishu is naturally an unparalleled existence in the Cultivation World. (To be continued...)
