Chapter 178: One Step Ahead
A single finger remained still in the void. Yet, it had already unleashed a shocking strike.
The sound was indescribably sharp. Then, Ghost Map spat out blood, staggering as it suffered severe injuries. Out of twenty Demon Generals, fifteen fell, and the remaining five were all drenched in blood.
Lin Feng stared in disbelief at this scene. Just how terrifying was this finger? He had expected to witness an intense battle, but he never imagined that Dugu Po would end the fight with just one move in the blink of an eye. This was the true destructive power of Divine Ability.
While the Demon Generals and Ghost Map were astonished by the dominance and astonishing might of Shishu's finger, Dugu Po lifted the Eyebrow-Height Staff and raised the Ancient Cauldron, sprinting toward Fan City with unimaginable speed.
Seeing Dugu Po escape, Ghost Map quickly regained composure and shouted, "Chase him! He is already at his last gasp."
The Second Demon General led the remaining three Demon Generals in pursuit of Dugu Po, while only Xiao Mi remained on the battlefield.
Xiao Mi gazed at the fifteen corpses on the ground, her face filled with sorrow and heartbreak. The thirty Demon Generals were the backbone of the demon race, and now it seemed they were on the verge of collapse.
Why did they have to oppose Divine Ruins? Why did they have to stand against this strongest secret realm on Earth?
"Master, if you saw this scene, would you think your decision was wrong?"
At that moment, two streaks of lightning flashed by and landed beside Xiao Mi.
One figure was clad in white, transcendent and extraordinary—Sword Saint Lin Bai.
The other figure wore black; it was Yazun from the demon race. He looked at the fifteen corpses on the ground and shouted angrily, "What happened here?"
"Dugu Po used Shishu's finger," Xiao Mi replied sadly. Her sorrow was not for the lives lost but for the future of the demon race.
“Shishu refers to? It seems the rumors are true. Shishu has indeed left behind a secret realm in the Divine Ruins. So it is indeed Shishu.”
Yazun showed a bitter expression, never expecting such a turn of events. He said solemnly, “Even if he can unleash the power of the Master's Secret Realm, he cannot display the full might of Shishu. Moreover, he was already severely injured and is now even weaker. Where is he now? What about the Ghost Map?”
“The Ghost Map and the other generals are chasing Dugu Po into Fan City,” replied Xiao Mi.
As soon as these words left her mouth, Sword Saint Lin Bai transformed into a bolt of lightning, pursuing with terrifying speed. Yazun followed closely behind, his speed increasing until he surpassed Lin Bai.
Xiao Mi watched the two figures disappear; she did not chase after them nor pay attention to the corpses on the ground. Instead, she turned and flew in another direction.
Feeling a bit weary, Xiao Mi only wished to return to Demon City. She longed to see her master and ask him: Where will the path of the demon race lead in the future?
Just as Xiao Mi’s figure vanished, several silhouettes appeared in the area. They were from the Guan Family, along with Bamboo Elder and Qijian Pavilion.
Looking at Xiao Mi’s lonely back, Qi Wan'er softly said, “After today, she will also become a pitiful person.”
“If one does not undergo transformation through adversity, how can they ride the winds and waves in the future?” The Guan Family felt that for Xiao Mi, this might not be a bad thing after all.
Hearing this, Qi Wan'er looked at the Guan Family and quietly said, “Among the four of us, you come from wealth. You have not undergone transformation through adversity; instead, you have entered the Divine Ruins.”
The Guan Family neither denied nor confirmed this but replied, “A general’s success often comes at the cost of countless bones. Anyone who sits in a high position does so by chance. You all see my glory as a wealthy man but fail to see the countless white bones behind me.”
After a moment of silence, Qi Wan'er said, “Among us four, everyone says your strength is the weakest. Since you were chosen by the Divine Ruins, your strength must be formidable.”
“Are you declaring war on me?” laughed the Guan Family.
Qi Wan'er shook her head and said, “I’m just somewhat interested. Throughout my life, I have mostly led them through hardships. I am tired of fighting. If I can avoid one battle, it would be an immense joy.”
“After all, we are daughters. We seek only a good place to belong. It is the tide of this era that has pushed us to the forefront.” The Guan Family, reflecting on the past, couldn’t help but sigh.
"At our level and status, how many men in this world are truly worthy of us willingly marrying them?" Qi Wan'er spoke calmly, yet her tone exuded an undeniable pride.
What she did not realize was that with her words, Antang and Cao Meng exchanged glances filled with flickering thoughts. Their eyes first sparkled with hope, only to dim in the end.
Fan City had already collapsed halfway, and with more powerful beings entering, it teetered on the brink of total destruction.
Dugu Po carried the Ancient Cauldron on his shoulder, swiftly moving forward while keeping an eye on the concealed signposts below. Lin Feng and Miaomiao lay inside the Ancient Cauldron, peeking out to observe the pursuers behind them.
"Senior Brother, that Golden Mask Man is getting closer. Behind him are four Demon Generals, led by the First Demon General," Lin Feng shouted, watching as they drew nearer, yet he felt little fear in his heart.
Lin Miaomiao chimed in, "There are two more powerful auras rushing toward us. It could be our Master and that Mountain-High Shadow from Gorge."
Dugu Po maintained a composed demeanor, unfazed by the situation. His speed was so great that sparks ignited from the friction between his clothing and the air. At last, he spotted the glowing Teleportation Array.
At this moment, the Teleportation Array had fully activated. It was completely unoccupied.
Ghost Map saw the distant Teleportation Array and finally understood why Dugu Po was so confident and had such a clear escape route. He couldn't help but curse, "Damn it, how could this broken city have a Teleportation Array?"
Dugu Po was the first to reach the Teleportation Array; as soon as he stepped into the white light, his figure vanished. The second to arrive was Ghost Map. Just as he was about to enter the Teleportation Array, a shocking explosion erupted from the transmission, causing him to halt immediately and shield himself with a Sacred Artifact.
The immense force of the explosion sent Ghost Map flying.
In the distance, Bamboo Elder witnessed the explosion of the Teleportation Array and became anxious. "This is bad; the Teleportation Array has been destroyed. Is Mr. Dugu in danger?"
The Guan Family looked toward that direction and said, "If it weren't for the destruction of the Teleportation Array, those following it would have found it hard for him to escape."
Bamboo Elder then realized that Dugu Po had intentionally destroyed the Teleportation Array. He remarked, "In its destruction, we cannot know where they will be sent."
"It doesn't matter where they go; it's all safe places. Let's return," replied the Guan Family.
"Qi Wan'er bid farewell to the Guan Family, saying, 'I entrust you with the matter of the Master's Secret Realm.'"
The Guan Family nodded slightly and replied, "The Disciple of the Qi Sword Pavilion has helped us multiple times; how could I forget such kindness? We will do our utmost to investigate the Master's Secret Realm and provide you with all the information we gather."
"Who doesn't know that the Guan Family keeps their word?" Qi Wan'er said before taking her leave.
"Farewell," they echoed.
Dugu Po entered the teleportation passage while carrying the cauldron. Just as he stepped inside, he destroyed the Teleportation Array, causing the passage to collapse.
Dugu Po raced through multiple layers of space, enduring the immense pressure from these layers. If the Teleportation Array encountered a spatial storm, it could lead to deadly consequences. With one hand protecting the mouth of the Ancient Cauldron, he unleashed a physical manifestation. Within the endless storm of fear, his body was ravaged at a terrifying speed, blood pouring from him continuously.
Eventually, Dugu Po struggled out of the spatial storm and found himself on a snowfield. He had no idea where he was. With a muffled groan, he collapsed onto the snow, covered in blood.
A majestic eagle appeared and stood quietly beside Dugu Po, keeping watch over him.
Lin Feng and Miaomiao also emerged from the Ancient Cauldron. Upon seeing Dugu Po's injuries, Lin Feng immediately knelt down to check his breathing.
"How is he?" Miaomiao asked anxiously.
Lin Feng sighed in relief, "He's not in danger."
Lin Miaomiao looked at Dugu Po's continuous bleeding and took out some spiritual herbs to apply them to his wounds, hoping to stop the bleeding. However, it had no effect. Worried, Lin Miaomiao said, "The bleeding won't stop. What should we do? At this rate, he'll die."
Lin Feng frowned and said, "We need to find a way to reach Source Spring to heal him. But he's too heavy for us to move; we're stuck here."
At that moment, the eagle flapped its wings and took flight, then grasped Dugu Po's clothing and lifted his body.
Lin Feng was delighted when he saw it. "Yes, I forgot about the Black."
The eagle let out a cry upon hearing this name, expressing its anger. Its piercing gaze, sharp as a knife, fixed on Lin Feng.
Lin Feng quickly corrected himself, "Senior, Divine Eagle Senior."
The eagle seemed quite pleased with the title Divine Eagle and withdrew its intimidating stare.
"Miaomiao, let's hurry and find a Source Spring. We need to push our senior brother into it for healing," Lin Feng pondered.
"Okay."
Lin Feng and Miaomiao walked through the snow, spreading their Cultivation and Divine Consciousness to search for a Source Spring. After half an hour, Miaomiao found one. The two of them were overjoyed as they dug it open, only to discover that the Source Spring was no larger than a well opening.
"Too small," Miaomiao said in disappointment.
"Better than nothing," Lin Feng replied.
He communicated with the eagle, instructing it to place Dugu Po above the Source Spring. The eagle complied, grasping Dugu Po and hovering above the Source Spring before slowly descending.
Before Dugu Po could touch the ground, the Vital Energy within the Source Spring was completely absorbed.
Lin Feng observed that Dugu Po showed no signs of recovery and said, "This Source Spring is too small; it won't be effective."
The two continued their search, encountering many Source Springs along the way, but all were too small and could not compare to the one they had encountered in the Great Zhou. Lin Miaomiao's sensitivity to Vital Energy surpassed that of Lin Feng, but compared to Cultivation and Dugu Po, there was a significant gap. She couldn't easily detect the presence of a large Source Spring and had to search slowly.
After five hours had passed, Lin Feng and Miaomiao had lost track of how long they had been walking and where they were; it was desolate and uninhabited.
"Lin Feng, come quickly! There's a larger Source Spring here!" Miaomiao shouted excitedly.
"Here it comes."
Lin Feng joyfully dashed over and saw a square spring about ten feet wide. "This looks pretty good; it should have some effect."
Lin Feng instructed the eagle to grab Dugu Po once again and toss him into the Source Spring. This time, after Dugu Po landed, there was still some Vital Energy left in the spring. However, after just a few moments, the Vital Energy within the Source Spring was depleted.
Lin Feng looked at Dugu Po and noticed that the numerous wounds on his body showed signs of recovery; at least he was no longer bleeding.
"Finally stopped the bleeding."
Lin Feng sighed in relief. With the bleeding halted, Dugu Po's injuries would at least not worsen any further. (To be continued)
