Chapter 55: The True Apocalypse
The Old Monk's Dharma form was ever-present, offering formidable defense. Lin Feng stood firm against the Divine Ruins phenomenon, while the Wind Spirit's Divine Dragon body was incredibly powerful, a remnant of the true Ancient Divine Dragon from ten thousand years ago, unafraid of the Old Monk's Dharma form.
Bang! Bang!
The battle between the two sides erupted with intense sounds of collision.
The Old Monk's cultivation surpassed that of the Wind Spirit and Lin Feng; however, the Wind Spirit's physical strength was too great. With her acting as a shield, the Old Monk could not harm Lin Feng for the time being. Likewise, Lin Feng and the Wind Spirit were unable to injure the Old Monk.
"Benefactor, you are no match for me. It would be better to cease hostilities now," the Old Monk suggested once more.
"Fine. Hand over the corpse of the Old Ghost King and disperse your cultivation willingly, and I will immediately stop," Lin Feng replied.
"You jest, this is something I cannot do," the Old Monk said with a smile.
"Then why waste words? Let’s fight."
"Benefactor, you cannot harm me."
"Is that so?"
Lin Feng halted his attacks and shouted loudly, "Eye, return to position."
Above Desolate Star, He Rongsheng showed no hesitation as he transformed into a beam of white light, bursting through the barrier and ascending into the starry sky. Finally, he morphed into a white eye that settled between Lin Feng's brows.
"Now that I have an eye in hand, I can see through mechanisms and find flaws in your Dharma form," Lin Feng said calmly.
Old Monk never expected Lin Feng to possess such a powerful trump card. He pondered, "Are you sure you want to fight me to the death?"
"Do you think I have any other choice?"
Lin Feng sneered, standing atop the forehead of the Divine Dragon. With a swing of his longsword, he and the Divine Dragon launched an attack against Old Monk.
Thunderous Roar...
Lin Feng forced Old Monk to retreat continuously, moving away from Desolate Star and into the dark void of space. Within the universe, the explosive power surged once more, intermittently illuminating the dark starry sky.
The pinnacle battle of a Preparatory Emperor was once again unfolding.
Lin Feng merged with his vision. He possessed an unfathomable ability that allowed him not only to see through illusions but also to subtly alter time itself.
In Lin Feng's eyes, all of Old Monk's attacking methods appeared to slow down just a fraction.
This slight change was imperceptible to others; they might even feel no difference at all. However, for top-tier experts of equal foundation, it was fatal.
After an hour and a half of battle, Lin Feng finally discovered a flaw in Old Monk's technique. He commanded Wind Spirit to dance with its dragon claws, seizing the opening and tearing it apart.
At the same time, Lin Feng transformed into a sword. He flew through the torn gap and pierced into Old Monk's body, going straight through. However, it did not strike any vital points.
"Are you truly finding this amusing, forcing a poor monk to such extremes?"
Old Monk sighed deeply and finally resolved to unleash his full power. All of his Chaotic Energy and Power of Faith erupted forth. The starry sky collapsed around them. In an instant, Old Monk radiated new life force, transforming into a Novice Monk, shining with blinding golden light that threatened to annihilate everything.
Seeing Old Monk's ultimate strength, Lin Feng gasped in shock. If it weren't for the terrifying physical prowess of the Divine Dragon, he would have been unable to contend at all.
Master Da, Dugu Po, and the Guan Family members focused intently, closely watching the Battle. They knew that the final life-and-death confrontation was about to begin.
Was it the end of the world or a new beginning? It all hinged on this moment.
"Lin Feng, you have to hold on," Fire Vein prayed.
Boom...
A terrifying explosion shattered the stars. The Old Monk unleashed his Buddhist Infinite Divine Powers, drawing upon the dense Chaotic Energy and Power of Faith. He was able to withstand the physical might of the Divine Dragon.
Lin Feng made his move, evading the Old Monk's most powerful attack by sidestepping to strike from a weaker angle. One faced the enemy head-on while the other launched a surprise attack from the side, complementing each other perfectly.
Roar...
The Divine Dragon struck, swinging its enormous tail as if an endless mountain range was moving horizontally. It swept through the stars, obliterating everything in its path.
The Old Monk extended his arms and surprisingly wrapped them around the Divine Dragon's massive tail, swaying along with it.
Whoosh...
A faint yellow sword suddenly descended, aimed at the Old Monk's head. The Old Monk raised his hand and punched towards Lin Feng's protective sword.
Bang...
With a thunderous sound, Lin Feng was sent flying, crashing into a distant star and causing it to crack open. Blood spewed from Lin Feng's mouth as a gaping wound appeared on his body.
After repelling Lin Feng, the Old Monk held onto the Divine Dragon's tail and suddenly stopped moving. Then he exerted all his strength to lean back. The Divine Dragon was lifted directly by him.
The Old Monk embraced the Divine Dragon and delved deeper into the universe, continuously swinging the Divine Dragon's body, crashing against the stars.
Lin Feng watched as the Wind Spirit was mercilessly beaten by the Old Monk, his eyes turning red with anger. "Old Bald Donkey, I will kill you!"
Lin Feng transformed into a sword once more, moving through the cosmos like a fish. Suddenly, a massive Taiji Pattern appeared in the universe.
The pattern descended upon the Old Monk, who swung his fists in an attempt to knock Lin Feng away.
Lin Feng focused his gaze, locating the source of the Old Monk's Fist Force. He rapidly spun the Taiji Pattern to counter the Old Monk's attack. The Old Monk was taken aback, never expecting this Taiji Pattern to possess such incredible utility.
Reluctantly, the Old Monk had to let go, allowing the Wind Spirit to escape. She transformed into human form; although her physical body was invincible, her Primordial Spirit was injured and she coughed up blood continuously.
"Old Bald Donkey, I will perish along with you!"
Lin Feng shouted as he conjured more and more Taiji Patterns, covering vast stretches of the universe, surpassing several stars in size. The Taiji Patterns engulfed the Old Monk. A thunderous roar echoed from within the patterns, but the Old Monk's figure did not reappear.
The battle raged on for three nights. The enormous Taiji Pattern grew larger while its brilliance dimmed.
The Wind Spirit stood outside the Taiji Pattern, unable to help and could only watch helplessly. Tears welled in her eyes as she worried for Lin Feng's safety.
After two more days, the Taiji Pattern vanished. Lin Feng appeared within the Wind Spirit's sight. At that moment, he was covered in blood, his face unrecognizable. His body weakened and he collapsed to the ground.
He had persevered until the very end.
In contrast, the Old Monk was also drenched in blood and looked extremely disheveled. His breath was faint; he still clung to life.
"Amitabha, is it worth risking your life for a battle with this poor monk?" The Old Monk sighed deeply.
“Lin Feng…”
The Wind Spirit let out a cry of despair as she embraced the bloodied Lin Feng. Fortunately, he was merely unconscious, his Primordial Spirit intact, and he had not perished. She turned to the Old Monk, her eyes filled with an unprecedented killing intent. “You bald donkey, die!”
The Wind Spirit transformed into a golden sword, piercing through the Old Monk's body again and again. It stabbed through his heart, his Primordial Spirit, and his Sea of Consciousness. Both the Old Monk and Lin Feng had exhausted their cultivation and could only endure until they ultimately succumbed.
“Lin Feng, we’re going home. You will be fine,” the Wind Spirit said, tears streaming down her face.
“Is it over? Has the apocalypse finally ended?”
“The robbers are gone; our people have triumphed. The Divine Ruins were mighty and helped us survive the cataclysm.”
Above the Desolate Star, it was not just humanity that rejoiced. Almost all living beings celebrated their survival through the apocalypse. They were overwhelmed with emotion, tears flowing freely.
Everyone remembered the Divine Ruins and honored the heroes who sacrificed themselves for the Apocalyptic War.
Elder Ji was the first Sage to lay down his life for everyone’s salvation.
The Red-Butt Macaque was an Ancient Divine Beast that stood up for the safety of the Desolate Star and ultimately made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Divine Ruins Realm had been destroyed, leaving no way home for the Divine Ruins Disciples. Master Da and the Wind Spirit carried the unconscious Lin Feng back to Wind Nation. All beings on the Desolate Star offered their rarest sacred medicines to save Lin Feng.
Lin Feng remained in a deep coma for an entire month. After a month had passed, he opened his eyes but found himself in a completely different scene.
It was empty—not blue, but black. The air was thick with a sense of death.
“What is happening?” Lin Feng asked as he looked at the Wind Spirit.
"The true apocalypse has arrived," Wind Spirit said with a frown.
"What?"
Lin Feng was stunned and speechless as he stepped out of the cave that Wind Spirit had opened for him. The entire Desolate Star lay before him, shrouded in darkness. Even the sun could not dispel the gloom hanging over Desolate Star.
"What on earth is happening? Why are you the only one here? Where are the others?" Lin Feng asked.
"Big Brother and the others... they..." Wind Spirit choked on her words, tears streaming down her face.
Lin Feng grew anxious. "What happened? Where are they? Could it be that they all... No, that's impossible, absolutely impossible." (To be continued...)
