Eastern Fang Qian's attitude caught Zuo Dao off guard, but upon reflection, he understood why the other party acted that way. As he had thought, no Cultivator could maintain their pride in the face of the Great Dao.
Of course, the most unfortunate one was Xi Shui Nan. Zuo Dao had his sights set on East City and would not have any further interactions with him. After quenching his thirst, he was informed by Changsun Shuiming that the Alchemist in the temple was busy refining a new elixir and had no time to meet him at a critical moment.
Upon hearing this news, Xi Shui Nan's frustration was palpable. Although he wanted to unleash his Young Lord temper, Changsun Shuiming disappeared right after delivering the message. Left alone in an empty room, he had nowhere to vent his anger. Despite being a Young Lord, he knew that the protections around these shops in Chaos City were quite thorough; even he dared not cause trouble lightly.
Days after Eastern Fang Qian's departure, Yan Wu Studio continued to thrive without significant changes. However, unlike what Zuo Dao had anticipated, the other three city lords did not reach out to him as expected. Zuo Dao found it strange but did not dwell on it.
The hot sales of elixirs at Yan Wu Studio significantly increased his Celestial Stones. These were tangible resources, and now he needed to find ways to convert these Celestial Stones into usable assets.
All of this was left to Changsun Shuiming to handle. In public, he still maintained the title of Ke Shui Ming; only in front of Zuo Dao and others did he refer to himself as part of the Changsun family.
He was well aware of the stir caused by those four types of elixirs in Chaos City. However, the limited supply could not meet the demands of the vast number of Cultivators. Several factions had already approached him seeking elixirs, offering favorable conditions. For those who subtly expressed hostility, Changsun Shuiming outright refused.
The reopening of Yan Wu Studio made him a celebrity in Chaos City. Yet he knew that all of this was granted by Zuo Dao; after taking the Great Dao oath, he also gained entry into Heterodox.
When he saw those squads, he couldn't help but gasp in surprise. At the same time, he felt fortunate about his choice. However, Zuo Dao's identity seemed even more mysterious to him.
How many Immortal Kings were there in all of Chaos City? He could count them on one hand; even including those hidden away, there were barely twenty. Yet within the Nine Monoliths, he sensed no fewer than thirty.
What kind of power was this? He didn't need to think hard to know. In the days following his emergence from the Nine Monoliths, his mind remained in a daze. The high-level Cultivators he had encountered before paled in comparison to those he had seen that day.
Why would such a powerful master choose him? This force was already unmatched within Chaos City.
However, he quickly adjusted his mindset; all he needed to do was focus on his current tasks. From observing those around him, it was clear that Zuo Dao treated everyone very well. With such a master, what more could one ask for?
"Shopkeeper, someone just delivered a letter for you; I was instructed to hand it over personally."
As he was sorting through the accounts and selecting suppliers according to the meaning of Zuo Dao, a clerk walked into the shop.
"Alright." Changsun Shuiming didn't say much; there had been too many such matters lately. "Put it down and go out. Keep an eye on the store."
The clerk said nothing more, placed the letter down, and left. All the staff were disciples of Heterodox, and they were aware of Changsun Shuiming's identity.
The letter lay quietly in one corner of the table, and he paid it no mind until he finished what he was doing.
He initially thought it was another notice from some faction, but when he opened it, he suddenly stood up from his seat.
"If you wish to know the whereabouts of Ke Chang, you must appear outside Spring Breeze Crossing at the hour of Chen today. Latecomers will not be waited for."
The letter contained little more than this message, but just the mention of Ke Chang was enough to stir him deeply.
Looking at the time, he realized there was not much left. If he had read it as soon as the clerk delivered it, he would have had time to prepare. Now it was already the hour of Mao. With his speed, he could still make it, but there would be no time for preparation.
Thinking of Ke Chang's safety, Changsun Shuiming didn't hesitate; without a word, he dashed out of Yan Wu Studio, leaving behind only a slowly falling letter. The clerk who delivered it couldn't help but show a hint of confusion in his eyes at this scene.
At this moment, Changsun Shuiming was burning with anxiety. If there was anyone else who could make him worry, it was none other than Ke Chang.
He had been raised by this elder and was one of the Dan Immortal Masters of Yan Wu Studio. However, a series of previous events had led him to mistakenly believe that this elder had met an untimely end. Now that there was news of him, even if it might be an enemy's scheme, he had to go.
Spring Breeze Crossing was a place near Cloud Mourning Sea, about ten thousand miles away from Chaos City. As soon as he exited the city gates, Changsun Shuiming summoned a beam of escape light and rushed towards Spring Breeze Crossing like lightning.
There was no time to notify Zuo Dao about this matter; besides, it was his own affair. He wouldn't seek help from Zuo Dao. As a subject, one should alleviate their lord's worries rather than add to them.
Spring Breeze Crossing was a perilous place, and the choice to meet there was laden with meaning. In Chaos City, the lives of cultivators were somewhat protected within the city walls, but that was only for a select few. Once outside, even if one committed murder at the city gate, no one would intervene—unless your fists were strong enough.
As he raced forward, he took stock of his equipment. His time in Heterodox had been brief, and Zuo Dao had not yet had the chance to modify his Cultivation Method. However, he was well-equipped with various magical artifacts and an ample supply of elixirs.
Though it was standard Heterodox gear, it was far superior to what he had before, even outclassing some elite disciples from larger factions. This was still due to Zuo Dao's recent arrival and lack of materials for upgrades.
Looking at the magical artifacts adorning him, he felt a slight sense of reassurance. The appearance of Ke Chang hinted at a conspiracy, but he couldn't discern its true intent. If it was related to his identity, things could get complicated.
Amidst his worries and unease, Spring Breeze Crossing came into view.
Spring Breeze Crossing was not large, spanning only about ten miles—a flat expanse leading toward the vicinity of Cloud Mourning Sea. It was also the closest point of Peak of the God of Combat to Cloud Mourning Sea.
Although it lay within the range of Cloud Mourning Sea, there remained a considerable distance to the actual sea. Beyond Spring Breeze Crossing lay a vast starry ocean, making it seem like a ferry point. Due to the frequent powerful winds in the starry sea, any ordinary cultivator caught in them would be utterly lost; yet here at Spring Breeze Crossing, for reasons unknown, those winds ceased.
Thus it earned its name—Spring Breeze Crossing—also known as a place for murder and treasure hunting. With proper preparation, one could kill here and then hide in the starry sea without being found.
As Spring Breeze Crossing rapidly expanded in his view, he noticed that not a single figure was present in this seemingly vast area. Although Changsun Shuiming was merely at Celestial Master Realm, he could easily survey the surroundings within a ten-mile radius.
Had he arrived too late?
Lost in thought, a sudden sense of danger prickled at his back. Without hesitation, he swung his blade backward and propelled himself forward against its momentum. He felt a tremendous force from the blade; fortunately, his forward motion dissipated much of it; otherwise, he would have surely been injured by this ambush.
"Ah!" A startled exclamation came from behind him; clearly, they hadn't expected Changsun Shuiming to evade their attack.
Once he had distanced himself sufficiently, Changsun Shuiming turned to face the cultivator who had attempted to ambush him.
“Ke Shui Ming?” The assailant did not make another move, merely standing still and watching Changsun Shuiming.
“Who are you? Why did you attack me from the shadows?” Changsun Shuiming asked warily, aware that he was no match for his opponent after that last strike.
“That’s right. I’m here on someone’s orders. If you hand over the land deed for Yan Wu Studio and those four types of Spirit Pills, I can give you a quick death,” the figure in the black robe said, his voice altered and his attire designed to block Divine Sense.
“What about Ke Lao?” Changsun Shuiming did not answer the question.
“That old man?” The figure in black chuckled ominously. “He’s the most reckless Cultivator I’ve ever seen. To avoid being captured by us, he even dared to self-destruct his Nascent Soul.”
“What!” Upon hearing this, Changsun Shuiming felt as if his mind had exploded, his eyes flashing with blood-red light.
The black-robed man hadn’t anticipated that his words would provoke such a strong reaction from Changsun Shuiming.
“It seems that the old ghost named Ke Chang had quite a bond with you!” As a Celestial Sovereign, he was well aware of Changsun Shuiming's Realm. Moreover, he was no ordinary Celestial Sovereign himself, so he couldn’t help but tease his opponent.
Changsun Shuiming had held onto a glimmer of hope until now, but with the confirmation of Ke Lao's death, he found it hard to accept despite being somewhat prepared.
“Die!” He shouted, turning his blade and striking without regard for whether he was a match for his opponent.
The blade’s aura extended for a mile as it swung fiercely toward the figure. Even he was startled by the force of his own strike, which brought him back to clarity.
These were gifts from Zuo Dao; after being refined, he had never used them before. He hadn’t expected such tremendous power, amplifying his strength by nearly fifty percent.
The black-robed man was equally unprepared for the might of Changsun Shuiming’s attack; it rivaled even his own seven-layered strength.
The blade light of Li Xu Chang did not lose its power due to its dispersion; instead, it appeared remarkably solid.
The figure in the black robe immediately recognized the key point, a glint of greed flashing in his eyes.
"What a fine treasure, but it will belong to me now."
With that, he raised his hand and grasped towards Changsun Shuiming, completely ignoring the blade light that was mere inches away.
The battle erupted swiftly and concluded just as quickly. Even with equipment enhancements, the difference in Realm between Changsun Shuiming and his opponent was too great. If the enemy hadn't aimed to capture him alive, the fight would have likely ended even sooner.
"What? Shuiming has been captured? They want us to bring the land deed and Spirit Pill for an exchange?" Zuo Dao had just emerged from the Alchemist's Chamber when he heard this news, finding it somewhat amusing that some people had acted so quickly.
The previous associate, also one of the Outer Sect Disciples, held a note in his hand.
"Master, Captain Changsun encountered trouble after receiving this letter."
Zuo Dao took the note and quickly understood the situation.
"It seems that Yan Wu Studio's underhanded tactics are at play again, but this time they have their eyes on my Spirit Pill. Since they want it so badly, let them have it. Just send Nine Streams to handle it," Zuo Dao said as he tucked the note away and turned back toward the Alchemist's Chamber.
The disciple understood Zuo Dao's intention immediately; sending Nine Streams meant they were planning a Deadly Strike.
