Bei Heng tightened his grip, forcing her to meet his gaze, his fingers slightly constricting. "You know many things, but you don't speak the truth. Lin Kedu, who exactly are you to Xu Fanluo?"
Her phoenix eyes narrowed, sharp as a blade, as if they could slice her open with their scrutiny.
Lin Kedu chose not to answer, no longer insisting that she was his favored consort. She lowered her eyelashes, filled with helplessness, her body trembling slightly as her hands unconsciously clutched the hem of her garment.
What kind of important role had she played in his tribulation? Was she a lover? If so, she would admit it; was she an enemy? Then she shouldn't be shouting for his death.
The Third Emperor could only confirm one thing: "Lin Kedu, do you like me?"
"Is it really that obvious? You finally noticed, you fool!"
She glared at him, the summer breeze lifting the loose strands of hair from her forehead. The deep affection in her eyes became increasingly clear under the bright sky, but who was this love truly for?
It inexplicably angered him. "Lin Kedu, do you like Xu Fanluo or me, the Third Emperor?"
Lin Kedu was taken aback, her mouth slightly agape, but she answered honestly. "It was yesterday's Xu Fanluo."
Seeing his displeasure, she whispered, "And today's Third Emperor even more."
At that moment, Bei Heng's heart swelled with joy like a dam bursting. The tide of emotions surged within him for reasons unknown, and wanting to kiss her felt like the most natural thing in the world.
By the time Lin Kedu realized she had been swept into his arms and seated on the windowsill, his kiss had already landed on her lips. Their bodies pressed together, feeling each other's warmth; in his usually indifferent eyes was a hint of confusion reflected back at her.
What happened? They were just at odds with each other, and now they seem so intimate.
Lin Kedu's eyes widened in shock, her body tensing slightly.
"Focus."
Noticing her distraction, Bei Heng tightened his grip around her slender waist. Lin Kedu hurriedly closed her eyes, enduring his increasingly forceful kisses—dominant and irresistible. Her hands instinctively clutched at his clothing.
Once their lips met, there was no turning back. His body heat was so intense it felt like it could scorch her exposed skin. When had he unfastened her clothing? The soft sound of fabric being pulled apart echoed in the air as he tore open her collar, and before she knew it, his hands were slipping beneath her garments, exploring her belly.
Desire surged fiercely, clouding Lin Kedu's thoughts.
"Slow down," she gasped softly, her dazed eyes filled with a sultry allure. Bei Heng's gaze darkened further as he looked at her, an overwhelming urge to possess her completely coursing through him, a thought that even he found astonishing.
Then she murmured, "Xu Fanluo."
Bei Heng froze, the momentary tenderness on his face vanished. He bit down on Lin Kedu's lip hard enough to cause her pain, snapping her back to reality. She met his indifferent gaze, filled only with desire but devoid of affection, and couldn't help but ask, "Why are you kissing me? Is it because you like me?"
The Third Emperor scoffed lightly. "A client visiting a brothel seeks only temporary pleasure; what reason is there beyond that?"
It was like a wake-up call for her. She raised her hand and struck Bei Heng on the shoulder; the slap was weak and ineffective. He straightened his disheveled clothing casually, his expression haughty. "It's just a game; you seemed eager for me to act this way."
She called out another man's name in a daze, and even though that man had once been him, it was still the greatest humiliation for him.
That's why he was so angry, no doubt about it!
Lin Kedu gritted her teeth and glared at him, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears, as if they could spill over at any moment. Her clothes were disheveled, her hair a mess, and her heart was in turmoil.
Yet she still proudly said, "Third Emperor, whether in the past or present, your ability to trample on others' genuine feelings remains impressive."
Bei Heng's smile faded. "Lin Kedu, don't compare me to Xu Fanluo. It's not hard for me to know who you are."
For the first time, an unprecedented hatred for Xu Fanluo grew within him, though he did not understand why.
