The moment her lips brushed against the man's palm, soft and warm, Wan Qiu's face instantly flushed hotter, as if it had been set ablaze, and her heart began to race uncontrollably.
Yun Daoyun peered through a small hole in the papered window. Inside the room, on the large bed, a man and a woman were entwined together.
The woman was extraordinarily beautiful, illuminated by the flickering candlelight. Her enchanting eyes seemed to possess a bewitching power, incredibly alluring, filled with endless charm that made one unable to resist stealing another glance at her, or even wanting to taste her sweetness.
"Still looking! You've already fallen for it!" Seeing Yun Daoyun's gaze starting to drift, Wan Qiu suddenly reached out and pinched his thigh hard, her fingers digging in so deeply that her nails nearly sank into his flesh.
"Ouch!" Yun Daoyun exclaimed in pain, his voice rising involuntarily. Turning his head, he found Wan Qiu glaring at him angrily, her small face flushed bright red under the bright moonlight, resembling a peach blossom in March—vivid and lively.
Perhaps the Charm Technique had not yet completely worn off; he suddenly reached out and grasped Wan Qiu's chin, applying slight pressure to lift her face before slowly leaning in to bring their lips closer…
At that moment, a dull thud echoed from within the room, followed by a man's body crashing against the window with a heavy thump.
Yun Daoyun and Wan Qiu were caught off guard and were both knocked back by the force. In an instant, a white figure darted up onto the roof with lightning speed, disappearing without a trace.
Knowing he couldn't catch up anymore, Yun Daoyun sighed helplessly and sat down on the ground. Rubbing his swollen thigh where she had pinched him, he casually questioned Wan Qiu, "Come clean—was that on purpose?"
As he massaged his leg, his eyes remained fixed on Wan Qiu, suspicion flickering in his gaze. He couldn't help but mutter to himself about how harshly this little fox had acted; he wondered if she had broken the skin. Unfortunately, he couldn't check immediately as he felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him.
Wan Qiu remained silent, staring blankly in the direction where the Fox demon had fled. Her eyes reflected a complex mix of emotions—worry and confusion.
Yun Daoyun was taken aback for a moment before focusing intently on Wan Qiu. He noticed her gaze flickering as she avoided meeting his eyes, leading him to suspect he might have found an answer.
The two entered the room, and Yun Daoyun gently moved the young master back onto the bed. After carefully checking him over, he determined that with a rest of about one hundred eighty days, he would recover. He then called for Wan Qiu to continue scaring people.
Wan Qiu, wearing a ghostly expression, pranced around the yard, making a ruckus. Before long, chaos erupted in the courtyard, filled with shouts and curses. A group of people fled in a hurry, their footsteps and cries gradually fading into the distance.
Clapping his hands, Wan Qiu beamed with pride. "I can finally sleep in a bed! Huh? Where did everyone go?"
Looking around, he spotted Yun Daoyun squatting in a corner, seemingly engrossed in something, leaning forward with intense focus.
Curious, Wan Qiu ran over and crouched beside him, eyes wide with interest. "What are you looking at?"
Yun Daoyun didn’t respond. Instead, he pulled out a small shovel from his pocket, which glinted coldly in the moonlight. He dug up some soil and brought it to his nose for a sniff, his brow slightly furrowing.
There was a faint smell of blood mixed with a hint of fox musk. It seemed his guess was correct; thankfully, he had only tasted one mushroom.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Wan Qiu asked, unable to contain his curiosity as he watched Yun Daoyun digging and sniffing intently.
Yun Daoyun wiped the small shovel clean and tucked it away in his pocket. He stood up and gave Wan Qiu a meaningful look. "You probably don’t want to know."
"Nonsense! I really want to know," Wan Qiu retorted defiantly, pouting slightly.
"Alright then."
Yun Daoyun grinned mischievously, revealing a set of pearly white teeth. Wan Qiu felt an inkling that something was off, but it was too late. Yun Daoyun spoke slowly and deliberately, "The mushrooms you ate before all grew from corpses."
"Ugh—" Wan Qiu felt a tumult in her stomach, unable to hold back the urge to vomit as her body trembled uncontrollably.
" Wan Qiu, Wan Qiu..." A faint voice called softly in her ear, gentle and familiar.
Who was it? Who was calling her? She was so tired; she had traveled a full sixty miles today, her feet blistered and aching with every step. Yet that voice was indeed familiar, almost like... Aunt?!
With a jolt, Wan Qiu sat up from the floor, her body shaking violently.
