Xu Zhuzhu frowned, not expecting such a situation to arise. Jiang Chen, though clearly young, wore an air of calmness that was somewhat unsettling. "Mr. Jiang, I really think you should reconsider betting with Manager Du. It's unnecessary; we are all strangers in a foreign land, and there's no need to create unpleasantness. Besides, the Eastern Deity Shrine is a place of solemnity, much like the Great Hall of Great Hero in our Huaxia Temple. It would be inappropriate to speak disrespectfully there, both morally and logically," Xu Zhuzhu advised earnestly. She was beginning to feel some resentment towards Jiang Chen; he was too reckless and never seemed to consider the consequences of his actions.
Jiang Chen smiled but offered no explanation.
"Zhu Zhu, just ignore him and watch how he handles this," Qian Xinyi said, pulling Xu Zhuzhu aside with a cold smirk.
Xu Zhuzhu sighed softly, picking at her food with little appetite, while Jiang Chen and Tengye Kikuko ate heartily, taking charge of the situation.
"This Jiang fellow talks big, but it's a pity his eating posture has betrayed him. Just look at him; he probably has never had such good food in his life," Qian Xinyi remarked without holding back, her disdain evident in her eyes.
Jiang Chen paid no mind and continued to eat.
"Manager Du, aren't we supposed to head to the Eastern Deity Shrine? Let's go," Jiang Chen called out to Du Guanghua after finishing his meal.
"Alright, let's go check out the Eastern Deity Shrine," Du Guanghua replied without hesitation. He was pinning all his hopes on the Eastern Deity now, wishing either that it truly did not exist or that it would take care of Jiang Chen for him.
"I think I’ll pass," Qian Xinyi said, not fully believing in the Demon God. She had only pretended to appease Du Guanghua earlier, but now that they were actually going to visit, she felt a twinge of fear.
"We should go take a look," Du Guanghua insisted, wanting both Qian Xinyi and Xu Zhuzhu to accompany him and witness how Jiang Chen would dig his own grave.
"Manager Du is right; my bet with him also needs witnesses. You two can come along with me, right? It’ll be fine; as long as I'm there, even if the Eastern Deity shows up, it won't harm you," Jiang Chen said with a smile.
"Then let’s go see," Xu Zhuzhu said. Although she felt some fear inside her, curiosity outweighed it. Jiang Chen's behavior was too unusual; she wanted to know what capabilities he possessed that made him willing to provoke the Eastern Deity.
"Zhu Zhu, aren't you scared?" Qian Xinyi asked with lingering concern.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. We are just visitors going to pay respects to the Eastern Deity. Would it really harm us? Besides, if Mr. Jiang isn’t afraid, why should we be?" Xu Zhuzhu replied with newfound courage.
In the end, Du Guanghua, Xu Zhuzhu, Qian Xinyi, and Tengye Kikuko followed Jiang Chen toward the Eastern Deity Shrine. Located deep within Mount Buddha, it would take several hours of walking to reach on foot.
The mountain path was lined with stones under the winter sun; snow capped the mountain peak while unique island nation architecture dotted the landscape. Indeed, Mount Buddha boasted beautiful scenery and was close to the sea. The spiritual energy from the ocean wafted into Mount Buddha on gentle breezes—though invisible to outsiders, Jiang Chen could see that most of the spiritual energy in this area had been absorbed by the Eastern Deity Shrine.
While spiritual energy on Earth was thin, it could still be harnessed for cultivation purposes; breaking through foundational levels was possible. The Eastern Deity had existed for millennia and surely possessed formidable strength—after all, evil cultivators generally wielded greater power than righteous ones.
