The horse charged straight towards Su Che's position. In a panic, Su Che searched for the figure from his past life, forcing himself to stand still despite his fear.
In the next moment, he felt a tight grip around his waist, and a wave of dizziness washed over him. His heart raced, and for a moment, he forgot to check if the person saving him was Mu Junze.
Once he regained his composure, he looked at the man who had rescued him. Fortunately, it was indeed Mu Junze. This time, he observed closely: Mu Junze stood tall, wearing a purple-gold crown, with sharp brows and bright eyes. His features were handsome, and his skin was even fairer than what Su Che had seen at the grave in his previous life. He wore a light blue round-collared robe embroidered with silver thread and a qilin design.
Seeing Su Che staring blankly at him, Mu Junze thought he must have been frightened by the earlier incident. He parted his thin lips and spoke in a low, gentle voice. "Are you alright, young master?"
"I'm... I'm fine. Thank you for your help," Su Che replied softly, averting his gaze as he came back to reality.
However, Mu Junze did not release Su Che. At that moment, Xiao Tao hurried over to inquire, "Young master, are you alright? That was truly terrifying for me."
Xiao Tao's sudden appearance startled Su Che, causing him to instinctively clutch Mu Junze's clothing and close his eyes, shrinking into Mu Junze's embrace.
Mu Junze stiffened but did not push him away. Once Su Che realized it was Xiao Tao who had approached, he sighed in relief. Just as he was about to say something, he noticed Xiao Tao looking at them both and then at Mu Junze's arms around Su Che.
The two immediately felt awkward and pulled apart. Mu Junze turned his head away in embarrassment while Su Che blushed deeply, secretly regretting bringing Xiao Tao along.
This scene happened to be witnessed by Xu Mu, who had peeked out of the window to watch the commotion. His brows furrowed as he clenched his fists and approached with a feigned look of concern, interrupting the conversation among the three.
"A Che, what are you doing here? Were you hurt in such a dangerous situation? And this gentleman is..."
Xu Mu pretended to care for a moment before shifting his gaze to Mu Junze. Su Che felt unlucky at Xu Mu's arrival but had no choice but to explain.
"I don't know whose horse startled earlier. Thankfully, this gentleman saved me; I am safe now. I am Su Che; thank you for your help. May I ask your name?"
Mu Junze spoke slowly. "Su Gongzi, my surname is Mu and my given name is Zhe. You can call me Mu Zhe. It was merely a small effort; it's good that you're safe. I haven't yet asked for your name."
Xu Mu interjected before Su Che could respond, pretending to be gracious as he bowed slightly and naturally took Su Che's hand. "I am Xu Mu. Earlier, my A Che thanked you for your rescue; I will remember this kindness and repay it in the future."
Mu Junze glanced at their intertwined hands and saw that Su Che seemed indifferent to how Xu Mu held him; he withdrew his hand without concern.
Noticing Xu Mu's slight displeasure as he intended to take hold again, and seeing how their actions might appear ambiguous to outsiders, Mu Junze decided to excuse himself and leave the scene.
Seeing Mu Junze leave, Su Che shook off the entangling Xu Mu with a face full of disgust and turned to walk away, feeling that today was just unlucky; he must not have checked the calendar before stepping out.
What should have been a pleasant encounter was ruined by Xu Mu. He hadn’t even had the chance to ask where Xu Mu lived. Although everyone knew about Duke Beiqin's mansion, in his previous life, he understood that in this lifetime, he was not supposed to know.
Xu Mu noticed Su Che’s displeasure and, recalling the earlier scene, felt a surge of anger and jealousy. “Xu Mu, you’ve disappointed me too much. I never knew I was so worthless in your eyes. Let go!”
Naturally, Xu Mu wasn’t going to let it go easily; he quickly pressed on with questions. “Then tell me why you’re here! If it wasn’t for secretly meeting him, how could you have gotten into such danger?”
Hearing Xu Mu’s accusation, Su Che was prepared. He threw a shoe at Xu Mu’s face with disappointment written all over his own. “Yes, I shouldn’t have come here! I shouldn’t have let your words linger in my mind every day as if my past sincerity meant nothing! Let’s cut ties completely; it’s best if we never see each other again!”
With that said, Su Che left with Xiao Tao, leaving Xu Mu standing there alone in shock as he stared at the shoe lying on the ground.
Dazedly picking up the shoe from the ground, Xu Mu recalled that not long ago he had mentioned how uncomfortable his shoes were. But being short on money and having stared at this pair for a long time while they were shopping together made him remember it clearly.
At that time, when Su Che suggested buying them, he pretended to be frugal and insisted that his current shoes were still manageable. He refused Su Che under the pretext of needing to spend money on studying and other important matters.
However, he didn't expect that Su Che truly remembered, and for a moment, he felt that this time Su Che was genuinely angry with him.
