"General Ling, what happened? You seemed fine this morning."
Ling Ancheng sensed the Emperor's tone was laced with skepticism, and a wave of panic washed over him. He replied, "Your Majesty, I just returned to my residence and felt an unbearable pain in my chest. After lunch, I suddenly coughed up blood and couldn't even stand."
The Imperial Physician, trembling with fear, knelt beside him and reported, "Your Majesty, my medical skills are lacking. I cannot discern anything unusual in General Ling's pulse."
Hearing this, Ling Ancheng's face turned pale. He struggled to prop himself up to explain, "There are no external injuries, no underlying illness, and it doesn't seem like poisoning. Your Majesty might suspect that I am feigning illness to avoid leading troops into battle. But I assure you, I am not pretending—I truly cannot stand." With that, he collapsed onto the floor.
The Emperor looked at him calmly and said, "It seems General Ling will not be able to lead the troops. Who should we send to quell the rebellion?"
Just as Ling Ancheng was about to speak, Yun Xuanyi beside the Emperor interjected, drawing everyone's attention in the hall. Yun Xuanyi respectfully suggested, "I believe we can send the Eldest Princess. Princess Consort is both talented in literature and martial arts; she is capable of handling this task."
The Emperor then turned his gaze back to Ling Ancheng and finally addressed the main issue: "To quell the rebellion, we need the strong combat power of the Silver Armored Army. For now, let’s temporarily transfer command to Qing Huang."
A wave of unease surged within Ling Ancheng. His current physical condition made it impossible for him to fight, yet the matter of quelling the rebellion could not be delayed.
The military command symbol was the Ling Family's greatest assurance; why should it be given to Yun Qingyu? Although she was Consort Duan's daughter, Yun Qingyu had a rebellious temperament and did not align with them at all.
Handing over command to Yun Qingyu would mean that the Ling Family would no longer be the most powerful military clan in Western Qi or serve as Consort Duan's strongest support.
If one day Consort Duan or the Ling Family fell from grace and the Emperor sought to deal with them, they would be left vulnerable. He had thought that the Emperor came personally to check on his health to verify its authenticity; however, he finally realized that the Emperor was here to seize his military power.
Meanwhile, in the Princess Residence, Ling Jing looked almost unrecognizable as a person. With a venomous glare, he threatened, "You will regret treating me this way."
Chu Lingchuan paid no mind to Ling Jing's threatening gaze and words, speaking in a calm tone, "You will no longer have a chance to turn things around. From today on, Young Master Ling can pray for a complete corpse at any time. Though that may be a luxury for you, dreaming while alive is still permissible."
Hong Yu and the others couldn't help but give Chu Lingchuan a thumbs up, saying, "As expected, Master Yun is ruthless."
Suddenly, a loud shout rang out: "Princess Consort has arrived."
Hong Yu was the first to dart out, quickly blocking the entrance. "Your Highness, the situation inside is not good. It would be better if you did not go in; we wouldn't want to dirty your eyes. You are a beautiful and kind little fairy who surely cannot bear to see others suffer. Let us handle these unsightly matters for you, so as not to soil your hands."
Yun Qingyu halted in his tracks, his brows furrowing slightly as he caught wind of some malicious thoughts.
Inside the room, Ling Jing lay on the brink of death, cursing himself inwardly: "It's that damned Yun Qingyu! I should have acted sooner. I should have chained that arrogant wretch and severed his tendons with a sharp dagger, making him crawl like a crippled dog under my command."
Suddenly, he heard someone outside reporting to Yun Qingyu: "Chen Gonggong has come to announce the imperial decree."
Ling Jing thought his predicament had reached the palace and that this decree was meant to rescue him. He fantasized about making the people of Princess Manor wish they were dead upon his return.
Outside, Yun Qingyu's face suddenly clouded over with frost as he said, "Sever his tendons and let him crawl like a dog on the ground; do not let him die! This Palace wants him to witness the complete destruction of the Ling Family." With that, he turned and left.
