I locked myself in my room for two days without stepping outside, sitting curled up with my knees hugged to my chest, staring blankly into space. My mind drifted back to the moment He Zheyang walked me home, and to that night when he and Yun Yao were so close together. A complex mix of emotions washed over me, leaving me feeling despondent, tears welling in my eyes.
Being deceived by the Beloved Man truly hurt!
That night, I lay down fully dressed, drifting in and out of sleep when I sensed someone approaching me.
"Zhi Su. I'm here to take you away from this place."
The thought of his betrayal made my gaze colder, filled with indifference and resentment. "You must be mistaken. You should be taking Yun Yao with you."
"Do you trust her words over mine?" He Zheyang sighed, his face a mixture of helplessness and urgency. "I am sincere about you! What happened that night was not something I anticipated!"
"You didn't think I would hear it, did you? You didn't expect Yun Yao to tell me your plans so quickly, did you?" I closed my eyes, feeling as if my heart were being sliced by a knife, my brows furrowing tightly. "Going with you is no better than marrying the Emperor and becoming a revered mother."
His expression darkened instantly at my words, his face turning grim. "Yun Yao said that on purpose; she wants to break us apart. You can't fall for her tricks!"
Though I didn't know their true intentions, the realization that they were both using me filled me with sorrow, tears streaming down my cheeks. "If that's not the case, then tell me why you would be out alone with Yun Yao so late?"
He Zheyang hesitated for a moment; he couldn't reveal the truth yet since the timing wasn't right. Uncertainty flickered in his eyes as he struggled to find an answer.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash as He Zheyu kicked the door open.
He glared at us with fury etched on his face, his hands clenched into tight fists.
The air seemed to freeze in an instant, and his eyes were almost spitting fire as he gritted his teeth and said each word slowly, "You refuse my title because of him?"
"Yes, so I hope Your Majesty can fulfill my brother's wish," He Zheyang blurted out, completely disregarding the emperor's feelings.
At the doorway, Yun Yao was taken aback. When He Zheyang entered my room, she thought that if she told the emperor I was seducing Prince He, he would surely punish me severely. She never expected He Zheyang to be so straightforward.
She quickly rushed to me and exclaimed, "No! Zhi Su is a seductress! She has bewitched the emperor and now seeks to ensnare Prince He! Who knows how many royal relatives in My Dynasty she will charm? Your Majesty, she must not be allowed to remain!"
Seeing Yun Yao's frantic demeanor, completely losing her composure, I couldn't help but smile slightly, a hint of mockery curling at the corners of my mouth.
In the past, I was merely a pawn in their game; now that I had lost my value to them, they sought an excuse to have the emperor eliminate me.
I couldn't let their scheme succeed, so I spoke up, "Your Majesty, does the title you mentioned that night still stand? I accept."
The words seemed calm, but no one knew the tearing pain in my heart.
He Zheyang trembled all over, his body swaying slightly as he bit down on his lip, frozen in place. His gaze toward me was intense and complex, gradually revealing a fragmented sadness.
Noticing that I deliberately avoided looking at him, he finally gritted his teeth and said through clenched jaws, "I wish you happiness!" He then turned away with a flick of his sleeve and hurried off.
"Your Majesty, please think carefully!" Yun Yao had just spoken when He Zheyu's sharp "Get lost" made her face fall. She shot me a fierce glare before leaving.
Seeing my tears, He Zheyu's gaze turned increasingly fierce as he stepped closer to me with an oppressive aura. "What makes him better than me? You dare to cry for him? I could offer you the whole world; can he? You are mine; you can only be mine! I will make you my empress! No matter if you are a seductress or not, I will gladly accept it."
