Captain Liu sat across from me, his expression serious. I detailed everything I knew to him. 0

He remained silent for a while, lightly tapping his fingers on the table. Then he whispered to the officer beside him, who immediately stood up and quickly left the room. 0

I anxiously inquired, "Has the truth come to light?" 0

Captain Liu lifted his head, his sharp gaze scrutinizing me. "Indeed." 0

"Can you tell me?" I asked eagerly. 0

"Young one,"—I was taken aback by this address—"you nearly lost your life. You should know that investigating cases is our job! What you did was reckless!" Captain Liu frowned, a hint of reproach in his tone. 0

"Who exactly wanted to kill me?" I gripped the armrests of my chair tightly, my palms sweaty. 0

"Of course, it was the murderer. You obtained crucial evidence from the bartender, and he has already been killed." Captain Liu crossed his arms over his chest. 0

"Crucial evidence?" I looked at him in confusion. 0

"The ringtone of Tom's phone when he left." Captain Liu said calmly. 0

"What?" My eyes widened in shock. 0

"Take a look at these two pages of call records." With that, Captain Liu handed me the opened file, revealing two pages of call logs laid out before me—the same ones my brother had shown me. 0

"What’s going on?" I picked up the phone records and quickly scanned through them. 0

"Pay attention to the calls at nine twenty-nine and nine thirty-two. It was Tom calling Jenny, right? No one answered," Captain Liu reminded me from the side. 0

"Of course, because Jenny is dead," I nodded in agreement. 0

"Logically, it should have been Jenny's phone that rang, right?" Captain Liu looked at me, his gaze deep. 0

Upon hearing his words, I suddenly realized, "The bartender heard Tom's phone ring at nine thirty-two." 0

"What are you thinking?" Captain Liu asked. 0

"Um, I can't make sense of it at all," I shook my head helplessly. 0

"This means that the phone next to Tom wasn't his; it was Jenny's. And the phone next to Jenny was Tom's. They swapped their mobile phones. Jenny called him using Tom's phone at nine thirty-two, and the earlier call was also..." Captain Liu patiently explained. 0

"They exchanged phones?" I exclaimed in surprise. 0

"Exactly. This is part of the killer's plan. Shortly after you discovered the body, someone asked you to come to the police station. We didn't do that; who could that person be?" Captain Liu guided me step by step. 0

"Is it the killer? That person must be Tom, right?" I ventured a guess. 0

"Correct. That person is indeed Tom; he is the killer," Captain Liu affirmed confidently. 0

"What is the point of me reporting to the police station?" I continued to press. 0

"There are two reasons: first, to confirm that you have reported the incident; second, to remove your line of sight from the crime scene," Captain Liu explained in detail. 0

"I still don't understand," I said, furrowing my brows in confusion. 0

"Then let me explain it all from the beginning." 0

Captain Liu straightened slightly, his expression serious and focused, his gaze steady as he spoke. "You were caught spying on Jenny by Tom, who devised a particularly insidious murder scheme. He informed Jenny about the spying and proposed a plan to prank you as revenge." 0

He paused for a moment, frowning slightly as if he found Tom's actions despicable. "Jenny will stage a death scene to scare you. If you call the police, they will arrive, and Jenny will pretend to be unaware of anything. You would then be charged with making a false report and wasting police resources. This would serve as a lesson for you, discouraging you from spying in the future. This is the script Tom proposed to Jenny; let's call it Script One for now." 0
