But not long after, the pungent smell dissipated, replaced by a somewhat acrid scent of disinfectant. I thought I was hallucinating and rubbed my temples vigorously. Li Zhisheng, seeing my discomfort, leaned in and asked softly, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" I waved my hand at him dismissively. "It's nothing, probably just didn't rest well." With that, I turned and walked towards the Morgue. 0

As I moved through the dimly lit corridor, I vaguely saw numerous metal cabinets lining the walls. Each cabinet stood at least two or three meters tall and spanned several meters wide. In the center were dozens of compartments resembling drawers, each about half a meter square. White labels were affixed to the handles of these compartments, likely bearing the names of the deceased. 0

"It seems it's not as easy to find as I thought," I mused, deciding to split up. I quietly told the two behind me, "Those cabinets are probably used for storing and freezing bodies, but there seem to be too many. Let's search separately." 0

Due to the flickering lights in the corridor and our guilty conscience preventing us from turning on any illumination, we could only make out vague shapes. Li Zhisheng nodded and headed toward a cabinet on the left. Hu Fang lingered behind without moving. Thinking she hadn't heard me, I stepped closer and said, "Let's split up." 0

Before I could finish my sentence, Hu Fang suddenly grabbed my sleeve with a trembling voice. "I think... I saw someone over there." She pointed toward the corner on the right. Startled by her sudden action, I quickly turned to look but saw nothing except a few cabinets in the corner. 0

I felt a surge of irritation. "There's no one there! Stop being paranoid. You insisted on coming along; if you're scared now, just go back!" Whether she realized she might have been mistaken or sensed my annoyance, she reluctantly mumbled, "Fine, you go right; I'll check ahead." 0

She walked ahead of me, and as she passed by, I could faintly feel her body trembling. Realizing she was here to help me made me feel guilty for snapping at her. But this wasn't the time to dwell on such matters; I approached a cabinet and began searching. 0

Upon reaching the cabinet, just as I expected, the white label bore the name of a deceased person. As I scanned through the names under the flickering light, one caught my eye: "Wang Xian." Elated, I momentarily forgot to inform Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang. "What luck! It was easier than expected." With that thought in mind, I grasped the handle of the compartment and pulled it open with force. 0

However, as soon as I opened it, my mood plummeted. This was not the Wang Xian we were looking for; it was merely a namesake. The head of this person had been gnawed away by something unknown, revealing stark white bones and a milky brain. 0

At that moment, the corridor lights flickered again, and I clearly saw that this long-dead corpse had opened its eyes and was staring intently at me. Before I could react, the lights went out again. When they flickered back on, the corpse had vanished without a trace. 0

In a panic, I called out for Li Zhisheng and Hu Fang while stumbling backward several steps. My body trembled involuntarily from fear. Just as I had retreated a few steps, I froze in place as that same nauseating smell hit me again. It was clear that this foul odor was coming from behind me. At that moment, sheer terror gripped me; what I thought would be a simple retrieval of Box had turned into an unexpected trap. 0

Just when I felt utterly lost, that repulsive stench disappeared once more. Shaking my heavy head from the lingering effects of that smell, I looked back at the now-open compartment—there were no names inside; it was simply an unused empty space. Hu Fang and Li Zhisheng had already rushed over upon hearing my commotion and anxiously asked what had happened. 0

I didn't know how to explain it, so I pushed the thought aside, saying, "Maybe I just saw it wrong?" 0

"Impossible! I clearly saw that corpse open its eyes. Could it be that what I saw was really a ghost?!" The thought sent a chill down my spine. Hu Fang seized the opportunity to mock me, saying, "Just now you were so confident. Look at you, a big man, tsk tsk tsk." 0

Li Zhisheng remained as calm as ever. He said, "There’s definitely something off about this place, but I can't pinpoint what exactly is wrong. In any case, we should find something and get out of here as soon as possible." With that, we began searching separately. 0

Before long, I heard Hu Fang's voice behind me. "Come take a look; is this him?" I hurried over to where the sound came from. As I got closer, I saw that on the wrist of the corpse were indeed the words "Wang Xian." There was a noticeable bullet hole in the temple area of the corpse, close to the eyebrow, surrounded by charred blackness—likely caused by a close-range shot. 0

At that moment, Li Zhisheng also rushed over from his search area. He looked at the corpse and said, "It's him. So who will take action?" He raised his right hand into the air, revealing a gleaming surgical knife. In such an environment, the surgical knife in his hand glimmered with silver light under the flickering lights, sending chills down my spine. 0

"Were you prepared for this before coming here?!" I asked Li Zhisheng with some confusion. He casually replied, "No, I just found a workstation over there with some tools and grabbed one." 0

"So who will do it now?" he asked again. None of us three had any experience with dissection, so we all exchanged blank stares, unsure of what to do. But then I thought to myself, “We have to do this sooner or later; this is why I came.” With that thought in mind, I took the already warmed surgical knife from Li Zhisheng's hand and swallowed hard. "I'll do it!" 0

Though I knew Box was inside him, I had no idea where exactly it was located. So I closed my eyes and plunged the knife forcefully into the throat of the corpse. Then I used my wrist to pry open its chest cavity. The knife met resistance from the ribs and made cracking sounds as bones broke apart, sending goosebumps all over my body. 0

Without bright lighting, even after opening up the corpse, it was impossible to see where Box was located. Gritting my teeth, I rolled up my sleeves and shoved my hand deep into the chest cavity of the corpse. At first, I thought there would be some special sensation, but once my hand was inside, it felt just like buying meat at a market—no different from touching dead pig carcasses. 0

However, there was quite a bit of fluid accumulated in the chest cavity; as my hand moved around inside, it made nauseating squelching sounds. Hu Fang covered his mouth and stepped back slightly. It was unclear whether it was due to the sound or the stench emanating from the opened corpse. 0

Just then, when my hand reached the lung area, it seemed to touch something hard that shouldn't be inside a human body. Feeling around carefully, I discovered that it had edges and corners. My heart leaped with joy as I quickly grabbed it and prepared to pull it out. At that moment, I felt a slight twitch from something nearby; it seemed to be right where the heart was located. 0

Seeing me stop moving, Li Zhisheng asked anxiously, "What happened? Did you find Box?" I didn’t answer him or make any further movements; instead, I quietly focused on that subtle sensation. But that faint vibration lasted only a few moments before stopping just as I halted my movements. 0

Just when I thought it was my own heart beating rapidly, the corpse's heart suddenly started beating violently again. In an instant when its heart resumed beating, the corpse sat up abruptly and opened its blood-red eyes wide, staring intensely at me. At that moment, my already taut nerves were startled by this sudden shock; I nearly fainted from fear. 0

Hu Fang let out a terrified scream at the same time. Seeing this, Li Zhisheng quickly stepped back a few paces and bumped into a metal cabinet with a loud thud. At that moment, I realized that if I let go of the Box now, it would be nearly impossible to retrieve it again. So, while the reanimated corpse had not yet reacted further, I forced myself to suppress my fear and gripped the Box tightly with one hand, using all my strength to pull it outward. 0

Due to the force of my pull, the Box came out along with the corpse's Heart. As soon as the Box was free from the corpse, it fell back down with a thud. Although I had seen what was supposedly a ghost before, this sudden series of shocks made my legs tremble uncontrollably. 0

After a moment, Hu Fang approached when she saw that the corpse had not moved again. "What on earth is going on? How can a dead person come back to life?" She clutched my arm tightly, and I could feel her trembling violently. I was also shaken and couldn't find any comforting words to say. 0

At that moment, I heard Li Zhisheng's voice from a corner nearby. He seemed equally shaken and spoke with a slight tremor in his voice, "Shen Xu, did you get the Box?" While supporting Hu Fang, I followed his voice and found him sitting on the ground, clearly terrified. I shook the Box in my hand at him and said, "We shouldn't stay here any longer; let's leave quickly. We can figure things out later." 0

Li Zhisheng nodded after I finished speaking and managed to stand up with the help of the wall. The three of us dragged our trembling legs and made our way out of the Morgue toward the door we had entered earlier. The dimly lit corridor still had flickering old ceiling lights. All I wanted now was to get home and see what exactly was inside this damned Box. 0
